By all means. Variety is the spice of life. I think the crux of my original post is that I don't want to pay for this kind of game. It strikes me as a gimmick.

I do not have the luxury of playing every single video game, as they all cost money. (Yes, I purchase every single video game I play, unless it is free-to-play like league of legends) I have to pick my games carefully. I tend to lean towards those that will give me a rich, deep gaming experience and the best replayability for the cost of the game.

Mind you, I may one day pick up DN:F for $5-$10 on Steam. I just don't want to pay more than that for a gimmicky in-my-face game with boobs.

I want to stress that I am in no way opposed to people playing Duke Nukem Forever... I just personally can't imagine paying much for it, nor would I put it anywhere near the top of my "To Do List"
ok well I understand where you're coming from, personally though money isn't such an object for me, not saying I'm rich or anything but I do have enough to buy a couple of games a month if I want to which is probably as much as I'll be able to play through anyway.
On the other hand i'm pretty patient so I very rarely buy a game on release anyway, 9/10 i'll be buying it 2 years down the line in a sale or as a GOTY or platinum edition... I buy lots of games so I always have a back catalogue of games to play through anyway. At the moment I probably have about 10 games on my "to buy" list that I won't buy until the price is right, including Fallout NV, portal 2, bulletstorm, DNF, Witcher 2, crysis 2, mass effect 2... etc.
In the mean time I have plenty to keep me busy, I have about half a dozen games that I've installed and not played yet to work though.
I guess I'm not the only one who needs to figure out how to play several video games at once! :p

Well OP, allow me to be your contrast. We are the same age (however, PC was my flavour of choice for Duke3D) and yet, it's precisely the wonders of such games as STALKER, Fallout et al, that means I'm going to enjoy doing some of that more old-fashioned run'n'gun. Now, I love me some Crysis and Far Cry too, what with the sneaking and the stealthy killing and the tactical thinking. But sometimes, I don't care if the piggies know where I am.

Perhaps I'm biased - I had a chance to play either a finished or near-finished product at Supanova recently (in fact, I managed to sneakily play past the point in-game where the attendants ushered folks out, nice NANOVISION Duke) - and yeah, there was nothing particularly brilliant about it. Except it was fun. And a bit silly. And had awesomely-bad one-liners.

Also, the Duke can piss like a champ.

Cant say im looking forward to it. Just looks... well, just a little bit shit is all. I certainly dont think it deserves all the hype its getting.

Besides, there are probably better games coming out this year (if not, then god help us)...

Like you, OP, I had a great deal of fun with Duke Nukem 3d as a kid, but as I have gotten older, my appreciation for these types of games has only grown, rather than diminished. My appreciation for experiences with depth and atmosphere has deepened even more so, but I still really enjoy games like Duke Nukem.

I am deeply into absurd, surreal and fantastical comedy and Duke really scratches all of those itches for me.

It's important to keep the child inside you alive, thus why I have Scary Movie next to Eraserhead on my dvd shelf, and why I have Silent Hill next to Crash Bandicoot 2.

I too, as many people, have the balls of steel edition on order....

So what if it's not as good as the developers or "hype" or development time says... It'll be a remotely interesting game that will keep me occupied for either a day, or a week... Depending on the replay value...

Sure, I would've played better games... But still, the fact that it's Duke Nukem is really the only reason I'm buying it... Because I do happen to be a fan that has waited since the Duke 3D game when I discovered it back in 1999... I think.... Surprised my parents even let me play it then, I was only 7... lol

I'm going to wait, but not until it's on sale slash in the bargain bin. I'm going to wait until the reviewers get a hold of it. See what they have to say. Then if it's any good, I'll pick it up. If not, well... I won't!

Middle option you didn't include.

I won't wait til bargain bins, but I won't get it on release day.

Part of me just wants another shooter, and at the very least it looks like a highly polished, competent FPS. Remember that Painkiller was one of the most fun games ever, certainly more fun for me than Gears of War, Modern Warfare, Call of Duty, and all the rest.

Call me old fashioned but I liked the quick running speed, health kits, large weapon capacities of the old day, and I think we sacrificied too much in the pursuit of 'realism' that shouldn't be included in videogames.

Also, I think that as a gamer, there's a certain obligation to buy Duke Nukem, just as when Half Life Ep 3 comes out I'll be obligated to try and play it at age 80 if I'm still even alive when Valve finally gets around to releasing it.

So there's my two reasons. It probably won't be terrible, and it's a piece of gaming history. I've bought games for a lot less in the past.

I haven't decided yet. I find the game quite compelling, and I passed on Borderlands and am going to play it at my friend's house. I'd like to get DNF simply because it looks like a heap of stupid fun. But no game can live up to the hype that DNF got and I didn't play any of the others, so, when the game comes out, if it's any good, and not just the last drops of milk from a nostalgic cash cow, I'm probably going to buy it. Not on launch day, but probably before it hits the bargain bins.

And oh, I too like games with good stories, long campaigns, and replay value. I've just noticed, however, that I've been leaving a lot of games unfinished or not enjoying their full potential, so a 6-hour shooter that relies on humour and a throw-away story may not be so bad. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a piece of shallow entertainment every once in a while.

It is just a self-indulgent sexist FPS that thinks it is funny. Getting on release day.

Im getting it because all gamers deserve this game after such a long period of Delayed.
And if its like it seems its gonna be a step away from the generic shooter of today.
Pre-ordered.

Nothing about the game's history can change the fact that the gameplay looks incredibly boring and the aesthetic is not aesthetically pleasing.

A big no for me. The Duke gets not special treatment - If the gameplay I've seen doesn't look good, I treat it like any second-rate game and dismiss it.

I have utter faith in Gearbox. Gearbox are a gamers developer, they play games themselves, they are passionate about games and it shows. If you love games, you're going to make great games. Honestly, from the interviews alone, I know this is not just going to be a pumped out commercial product designed to make sales on the back of purely nostalgia and the Duke name.

Why even bother? it is going to be a mix of all the things that are in FPSs in the modern day (FPSs that suck so much) the old duke nukems and some fancy graphics?
