A shooter that isn't overbearingly serious, and tries to have some fun? Of course I'm down for that! I don't care about the 12 year wait or its "legacy," I just want a shooter that doesn't think it's the next Gears of Duty: Reach Episode 2.

I'll play it someday- but I already have a backlog of games I need to buy/trade/play in general due to living on a small vg budget.

I gots gaming priorities, here!

By all means. Variety is the spice of life. I think the crux of my original post is that I don't want to pay for this kind of game. It strikes me as a gimmick.

I do not have the luxury of playing every single video game, as they all cost money. (Yes, I purchase every single video game I play, unless it is free-to-play like league of legends) I have to pick my games carefully. I tend to lean towards those that will give me a rich, deep gaming experience and the best replayability for the cost of the game.

Mind you, I may one day pick up DN:F for $5-$10 on Steam. I just don't want to pay more than that for a gimmicky in-my-face game with boobs.

I want to stress that I am in no way opposed to people playing Duke Nukem Forever... I just personally can't imagine paying much for it, nor would I put it anywhere near the top of my "To Do List"
ok well I understand where you're coming from, personally though money isn't such an object for me, not saying I'm rich or anything but I do have enough to buy a couple of games a month if I want to which is probably as much as I'll be able to play through anyway.
On the other hand i'm pretty patient so I very rarely buy a game on release anyway, 9/10 i'll be buying it 2 years down the line in a sale or as a GOTY or platinum edition... I buy lots of games so I always have a back catalogue of games to play through anyway. At the moment I probably have about 10 games on my "to buy" list that I won't buy until the price is right, including Fallout NV, portal 2, bulletstorm, DNF, Witcher 2, crysis 2, mass effect 2... etc.
In the mean time I have plenty to keep me busy, I have about half a dozen games that I've installed and not played yet to work though.
I guess I'm not the only one who needs to figure out how to play several video games at once! :p
i always have 3 games on the go at any one time, any more and i lose track on at least one of them. minecraft, borderlands and mount & blade warband at the mo.
as for DNF...
not really on my to get list.
i suppose i am the target audience (being nearly 30 and all) and having played DN3D but i get the feeling that if i get DNF it will be a ways down the line in a sale.

I've been a fan of Duke since the 2d era where you used to drink soda for health and shoot zig zag lightning bolts. So yes, I'm all over every new press release, I can't wait for it.
The first two were surprisingly good platformer-shooters. Sort of like Contra, minus the instant-death. It wasn't until Duke 3D did the series dive head first into the misogynistic silliness it is today (or, was).

I honestly think that Duke 3D was one of the best FPS games in it's era.
The weapons were great, the levels were interesting and there were tons of secrets to find.
Top it all off with one of the first Multiplayer FPS games (even before quake) it was mind-blowing at the time.

I'll be getting it. Purely for the lingering nostalgia of Duke 3D.

We spent weeks at the local Microplay playing LAN games of Duke. Then we'd go home and break out the level editor and spend the evening lovingly crafting new crazy levels. It was the first game my dad tried to play with me to see if he could figure out the whole video game thing. His nick was Slowhand and he was terrible, but it was still good times.

I'll be 32 when Duke comes out. It will be my 'guilty pleasure' for this year.
30 here, and this game will once again be right up my ally.

IF I can peel away from Mortal Kombat >_>

Edit: No Balls of Steel, but release day purchase for sure.

Unlike Bulletstorm, this looks like an actually humorous trashy game and we haven't had any of those in a long time, if ever. So yes, I'll buy it, probably on release day.
You know when I saw the trailers for Bulletstorm, I actually thought "Hmm, it looks like they're trying to be Duke Nukem.", in essence a game with crude but silly over-the-top humor. The difference is that Duke will actually make you laugh. His whole persona is what sells the game. He's a wisecracking, womanizing, super-egomaniac that kills aliens with improbable and silly weaponry. Even without the nostalgia, this game will definitely work, even if it's a 'guilty pleasure' sort of thing.

On a side note: Duke Nukem Forever is being released on June 14th (N. America). Also being released on June 14th, is Alice: Madness Returns. This means that two sequels I've been wanting for over a decade come out on the exact same day!!! Holy shit, that's like a gaming bliss overdose! Hopefully I'll be coming down from my Portal 2 high by then.

the type of humor and everything it's trying to portray, i normally find hilarious and awesome and usually would love a game for it

however

I just do not care one fucking bit about forever, I've seen every single gameplay/trailer out there and it has me absolutely not enthused at all. Plus there are near 20 games coming out this year that i want to get so those 60 dollars are precious to me for other games.

It all depends on one all important question, is it fun? Personally I do enjoy a good plot to go along with my game. A good plot can easily elevate a game from good to great and great to fantastic, but if I can only choose one or the other (I.E. fun over interesting plot) I'll pick fun every time.

My line of reasoning is quite simple.

If 3dRealms released it, I'd have nothing to do with it. I wasn't going to give them money for a game that we have to wait near 15 years for.
Since Gearbox, a company I respect, took it over and finished up the gameplay I find I'm more than willing to throw down my $55 for the game come release date.

I love you Gearbox! Now please take of the Half Life franchise!

I'm not sure. I didn't care and wasn't going to buy....then the trailer came out. Then I wanted it a lot.

Then I slowly stopped caring again....then I read preview of the game and wanted it again.

It looks so badass but I have no money. Guess I'll be waiting until its price is dropped.

I won't truly believe it until I see it on a store shelf but the second I do I will pounce on the disc case. I'm so tired of the brown, gritty "Save America from Russia" (that hasn't been relevant for decades devs) or "Save Earth from aliens, using the least amount of characterization possible."

I'm really looking forward to it's release and hope it turns out to be great because then everyone can enjoy it and have a laugh and fucking stop complaining about the goddamn seriousness that occupy todays modern FPS games, honestly people we've fucking heard it before!

Btw, I haven't pre-ordered it myself but I have a friend that is hyped for it

I didn't care one bit until recently. Looks like it's going to be a super fun game. Absolutely ridiculous.
