I agree with the OP in every way. It has no place in the modern markets, and only serves to demean the industry.

I'll wait for a price drop, if anything. Just Cause 2 has me hooked now, and Serious Sam HD (on Steam from a 75% off sale) has me on the "filling monsters with lead" category.

Also, I think you misunderstand what toys are: Pieces of amusement for no other reason than amusement. You know, EXACTLY WHAT DNF CLAIMS TO BE. At least Mass Effect had dreams of being a complex drama (and mostly succeeded).
What Mass Effect succeeded in was shallow combat filling up time between boring conversations in one of the blandest sci-fi universes I ever had the displeasure of immersing myself in.
To each their own. (And if you thought the combat was shallow, you clearly weren't playing on hard.)

I'm waiting for reviews, given how long and bumpy the road has been up to this point, and how many times development has switched hands, I have no idea of the quality...and wouldn't like to hazard a guess either.

The nostalgia handling part of my brain wants it to be great.

I don't understand why you would think that a game like this somehow nullifies what other games are doing.

I want the duke because other modern fps are boring. I bought black ops and got to bored to complete the freaking single player and it was the same when i rented mw2. I loved mw1 but atleast their was contrast in gameplay and mw2 seemed to be a milking. Black ops had no contrast in gameplay and the fact i kept dying because aparently the game loves killing you in a few bullets or one explosion that took clairvoyance to avoid.

I get tired of cover based combat and thats the one reason i never played GOW2 single player even though i own it. Still havent beaten RAMM in GOW1 and i dont care anymore.

The last 3rd person shooter i really liked was Re4 which i played to death. You know what it was? It was a game that didnt take itself to seriously. Especially the midget who sent his "right hand" to deal with me. contrasted by the part where i met regenerators damn those things when i first met them. O_O

My point is: Gameplay needs contrast and not take it self too seriously. And the grayish brown graphics doesnt help a game with me.

I'm trying the demo on June 3rd, and then I'm deciding whether or not I'm getting it.
Pretty much this, if I'm satisfied with that then I'll get the full game.

Ugh, I gave up on trying to complete ME2's hard mode as a Vanguard... Too frustrating in comparison to ranged classes like Infiltrators.

But there's jiggle physics now! They practically have to!

I wasn't impressed with Duke when I was 14, and I damned sure ain't impressed with him now. It was just another Doom clone.

Also, anyone ever heard of Ash? No? Sigh.

I'm definitely buying it, if only for the sheer novelty of finally having Duke Nukem Forever. I don't care if it turns out good (though it looks like it'll be fun; Gearbox is good at what they do).

I suppose 2K didnt help themselves out when they decided to release this the same year as Mortal Kombat. Now if you look at how far the industry has come as a whole and then how far back into immaturity we've gone this year...yeah...not good is it?
Immaturity? A couple of games you think are 'immature' aren't going to set an entire industry back if that's what you're thinking.

Yeah, the Duke's a sexist bastard, but that's the point. It's just a tongue-in-cheek representation of classic '80s hyper-masculine action heroes. Nobody should be taking Duke Nukem seriously in any regard. And Mortal Kombat is similar in that it's a fighting game, so of course it's gonna be violent. (I think that's what you were referring to.)

Every industry has its over-the-top additions, and games should be no exception. Deal with it.

George Lucas makes movies. I still watch movies. Duke Nukem is a video game, I will still play games. Don't take the one shitty example and use it to pigeon-hole an entire industry.

Some people will play it and enjoy it, I will not play it and still enjoy whatever else I will be doing at that time.

I know the game isn't going to be the next Ocarina of Time, I'm ok with that. I just want a funny, over-the-top game where I get to shoot a bunch of aliens. I haven't played a game like that in forever, why not revisit it?

I have both Serious Sam AND Duke Nukem on pre-order.

And what's even more fun is that Duke Nukem is my CE edition order. So yes! Quite fun.

No, probably not. To me it looks like a generic brown shooter with added toilet humor, so i couldn't justify spending £40 on it. Maybe sometime after release when the price jumps down a bit

Yep, already preordered it. I admit part of it is the nostalgia, but part of it is that I'm kind of sick of most games these days. Every game (well since this year. A few have changed that) tackled characters and story completely straight faced.
Also, people taking a game that doesn't even take itself seriously never ceases to make me laugh. Don't get all upset over it, it's just a game with a juvenile sense of humour. Gamers aren't above that, no matter how much you like to pretend you are.

Despite the inclusion of such things as regenerating health, I have Duke Nukem Forever: Balls of Steel edition for PC pre-ordered. Duke Nukem 3D is still a better shooter than anything that has come out recently, and it'll probably be a better shooter than its sequel as well... but I still want to see where they went with this game.

Duke Nukem: why not? Is it wrong to want a game where all I wanna do is rip off someone's head and shit down their neck? Sometimes I wanna immerse myself into an expansive and be awed at how it was put together (Oblivion) and sometimes I just wanna shoot someone in the dick and laugh as they scream in agony (Bulletstorm).

DNF definitely seems to fit the latter, and that's more than enough justification for me. I can't wait to encase my balls in steel.
