well I vote no immediately, like you do, but now that I have a chance to think about it... he is helping his medium, rap or is it hip-hop (I can never tell them apart) to be considered a valid and meaningful form of artistic expression. We should embrace diversity in art. (forgive the cheesiness of that otherwise true statement)

so, I give this a yes.

On the side, it would have been nice to know weather poll was asking "do you enjoy his music?" or "Eminem: should he exist as an artist?" (OP your poll description should have been more specific, you know what I'm sayin?)

I like eminem, mainly because when I listen to him rap I don't want to cut my ears of with an angle grinder.

I am very surprised how this poll has turned out, since Eminem is such a polarizing character. The poll is currently over 50% in his favor, which means that this forum can not only stand rap, but even appreciates the angry ranting of a bitter and broken man as he goes through life fighting to live and living to fight. Cool.

Personally, I enjoy Eminem for his outrageousness and how fired up he gets people about current events but also I enjoy following his metamorphosis as a completely average man in most respects (other than attitude and spirit) as he comes from nothing on the streets to becoming a celebrity, dealing with success and settling down, having a family, managing entertainment while trying to stay true to the fans, etc. to now. I think its pretty cool.

I dunno, I guess I enjoy Eminem for how he represents life for the average man and all of its trials and tribulations. I don't listen to a lot of his music, but I appreciate what he does.

Definitely 'Yes' from me, I love his early albums and 8 Mile as well. I didn't like him at first since I was more of a fan of rock and his swearing and violent lyrics kinda put me off, but I gave some of his songs a chance and found them both funny and interesting. Don't like his new stuff though.

I am thoroughly surprised on how evenly split this is. But personally I like him, he has some really clever lines and you can really tell how much of himself he puts into his music

Ultimately Eminem is an amazing lyricist, his word play is really interesting however his one problem is he doesn't really rap about anything significant that doesn't involve himself. I think he will go down as one of the greatest rappers of all time but he won't be able to hold a candle to people like OutKast and the Wu-tang Clan

Yes.
He writes silly and serious stuff, very few of his songs are about bitches and money.

Although all his songs are about the same thing. I know a few people with drug addicted mothers, marital problems and children but they haven't made a career out of it...

No.

But that's really because I hate rap, pseudo-rap, rap impersonators and anything that is sorta but not really rap.

Oddly enough, he seems to be the only rapper left with real meaning behind his songs. So yeah, he's great.

Wow you couldn't be more wrong

Edit: What meaning does an Eminem song have over an OutKast song or an MF DOOM song? sorry for being brash earlier but your statement is untrue

Eminem is the only rapper who's music I enjoy. I think its easy to enjoy his earlier stuff more, but if you really listen to the new album I find his wordplay has gotten more advanced.

Cool, I only hear that by word of mouth. I hate rap so I don't even listen to it. May you elaborate?

Out of the albums I've got Recovery is by far his best work. I thought Relapse was great, but I'm glad to see Recovery take a more serious tone.

Oh god no. It's rap, you can't do that well unless it's I'm Awesome by Spose, and that's only because it's kind of hip-hop instead...
And because the lyrics are fucking hilarious :D
