I am 44 (and a woman, making me a pretty rare breed indeed on here it seems)I can't remember what age I began gaming, my dad bought a ZX81, which he promptly took back and exchanged for a Spectrum (both Sinclair) but that was too much bother 3-4 hours of putting in info to play very simple tennis.
I then played on Amiga I think, there was a Star Wars game on that, right? Then a big gap between that and my son's Pokemon yellow, and I was back, hooked (sooo many hours on Pokemon)
I don't think age is something that matters to gamers, it would make it too complicated to add that to the mix of things we love to quibble about, lol :)

I dunno what age I was when we got our first PC. 10? I started out by playing that maze/quiz game on Encarta Encyclopedia.

My first "console" was the Game Boy a few years before that, bundled with Tetris and Star Wars, which I hated. Could never get past the sand crawler. We got a Mega Drive too, but couldn't afford games for it. After that I got an N64, from there I got a Gamecube, then a PS2 when my 'cube was stolen, then another PS2 when that got stolen, another PS2 when that PS2 broke, and upgraded to a 360 a year or so back.

I'm now 23, and only since I got the Xbox have I really become a "gamer" - before that I was just a dude who played cheap pre-owned games when he had the spare cash. Nowadays I have a job and can buy new releases, and I even keep up with gaming news.

I would be 16, but I've been gaming since I was 5 or 6. First game seen was Worms, but the first I ever played was Doom. Yeah, I know, PS1...

OT: 15 years of age, almost turning 16. I've been gaming since I was 5 or so. First system, Computer, First Game was Jak 2.

Age is not a huge deal to me, if your parents are aware of the ESRB ratings, and get you the game based off of your maturity, then I'll happily play with you. But if the other person is a whining annoying brat, I'll promptly issue a kick vote or leave.

I'm 26, been gaming for at least 20 years... good ol' Spectrum and Commodore 64. I see no reason to give it up at the moment, so I'll be doing it for as long as it continues to be entertaining.

I started with a 2600 the neighbor gave me after they upgraded to NES when I was 7. They then gave me their NES when I was 14

So the thread about "When did you become a gamer" got me to wondering what the age demographic for the general gamer demographic is for the Escapist. Am I as old as I feel around here? Is this a place for the Gamer Youth or are we a more aged and mature breed of gamers?

I am 28, and have been gaming since I was 4 years old... good old Amstrad.

When did you get your start in gaming, how old were you? What was your first system? Your first game? How do you feel age comes into play within our shared hobby?
I already looked into this a while back for those who remember:

OT: I started gaming when I was about 6 or 7 on a commadore 64, good old floppy discs, good old joysticks, very good old kicking my lil' sisters ass at teenage mutant hero turtles! (yes Hero) I'm now 21.

I am 15... and my first ever videogame was Pokemon blue for the Gameboy classic. Not MY Gameboy you understand, my parents completely refused to let me have any videogames at all until later on. The first game I ever played on a console I owned was the original Rayman for the Playstation. I then got a DS lite for my 12th Birthday, Bought a PSP and a Gamecube, then an Xbox360.... So on and so forth.

I'm 19

My first games were Age of Empires and Little Big Adventure 2, (not sure which order I played them, but I remember LBA2 being the first game my dad bought for me after I played the demo a lot, and I still actually have a vague memory of us going to PC World and buying it) both on the PC, around 1997, when I was 7! I later got a PS1 and played Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. I also played Half-Life on my Dad's PC after a while and also played Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, which both got me really interested in FPS games on the PC.

I didn't start gaming properly until I was about 12 and the first big release I actually got hyped about and looked forward to was Half-Life 2 (which came out 2 years later) I got a PS2 at one point and played a couple of games on that, but always kept going back to my dads PC. I got my very own PC around age 13 in 2003 which played games on medium graphics settings, I started getting tonnes of games for it (honestly they were mostly from torrents, we didn't have a whole lot of money), and at this point I was hooked.

Man, that 31-40 bracket makes me a very sad panda... D:

I started with an Atari 2600 in 1983 after receiving high marks in school. I moved onto an Intellivision soon after and it's been gravy ever since.

I got into comics AFTER I started gaming, and really had no reason to get into gaming other than my parents wanting to get the system (as it was the fad to have one back then). First game would have been Combat and wotever the other pack-in game was with the Atari...
