Caeser's Legion would as Arcade put it, 'be a step back in time.' Also he seemed like an asshole. Mr House to me was just a dictator all dresses up with money and greed. Independant? A wasteland full of hostile creatures and enemys and it wants me to take away any protection people already had? Screw that. So, NCR since they wanted to do good and the end credits pretty much said happily ever after.

Immortal, but Mr. House was already mentally unstable. Centuries of babysitting humanity? His mental state will go down hill faster than a fat man on a unicycle riding off a cliff.
One of the things my char would do after the battle ends and everyone settles in, is persuade House to teach him how to Cryogenically freeze himself and implant his brain into the Lucky 38's mainframe.

If House DOES go insane, Bourne(my char) walks into the penthouse, fries the securitrons with single shots from the Pulse gun IF they attack/(or use his 100 speech to talk House down), then euthanize House, give him a funeral, and proceed to cryogenically freeze himself and connects his brain to the network. Hello 500 (albeit boring) years of ruling Vegas....

You mean the correct way to pronounce it? I got a Latin hard-on when I heard it.

NCR, they have their problems but at least they're educating people. The only way humans are going to make it in the wasteland is if they have the knowledge to avoid the mistakes of the past and create the technology to build a better future.

Mr. House can no doubt build an advance civilization but he won't have the people necessary to maintain it.

So you don't like Caesars Legion because they pronounce Latin words correctly?

You're joking right?

Actually a team of 5 old school Enclave members gave the legion more trouble than the entire NCR. Lannius chased after them but only racked up a huge death count. If 5 members did all that, imagine what an actual remnant force could do. Caesar ignores them because he knew the legion would lose to the small number of Enclave remnants, but lannius sees a challenge and fights regardless.
Yes, but to actually participate in the battle you had to convince them to first get together and then to fight. Yes whoever is still alive would still be pretty strong, but I doubt the Enclave will all get together again and become a major fighting force.

Plus they've been in 2 games (plus the remnants in NV) already, I don't think we need to see the Enclave again.

Went for the Independent, was hoping i could do a speech check or banter check at the end of the game with NCR to open up trade routes and stuff.
But no, they got so upset that i "betrayed" them that they were ready to cave my skull in and smear my bodily fluids all over the place. Made sense to me, i protect New Vegas in the name of independence let the NCR continue whatever the hell they were doing. Save them caps and time.

It helps to think of what your character would by sympathetic towards, as I myself have at least planned out characters that did would follow each faction
Faction: Pros/Cons
NCR: Democracy, closest semblence to pre-war government/ corrupt, slow
Caesar's Legion: Prepared for wasteland life, ethics system could pay off when universaly accepted/ slavers, loose monarchy held together by a single man
{ who's dying, and Caesar's succesor is not a good man by any standards}
House: clear plan, peace/ oppresive system, possible nutjob
Yourself: probably varies based on choices, best choice if you really don't like other canidates

*spoilers* /duh

So... not too many people throwing in with the fascist slave drivers, surprise surprise. Nobody's really arguing on their behalf, but if they were, I wanted to take the opportunity to showcase a great quote ingame from Marcus the Supermutant:

"The Legion follows Caesar, not his ideals"

Indeed.

The Legion are probably the worst group to prop up, not just because they're evil assholes, but because in time, with the death of Caesar, the Legion would fall into the control of a Legate Lanius (or like "might-makes-right" tyrant) or disintegrate into a huge displaced body of leaderless raiders.

Anyways, I did all the different options on different playthroughs, since I loves me some Fallout, but for polling purposes, my gut told me to go with Mr. House on my first cherry poppin' play through...

Why?

- I liked him.
- He is very scientifically minded. It struck me that he was the only real faction (present in this title) that offered a longer term look to the future and the scientific developments necessary to reestablish mankind on Earth or elsewhere (as he alluded to in some of his dialogue).
- He demonstrated the capability and personal acumen of socio-economic, scientific and military knowledge tempered with the dedication and willingness towards personal sacrifice required to see his goals realized, having ALREADY survived the nukes, established New Vegas and used a guiding hand to shape the current state of affairs to his advantage.

On reflection, I think it's fair to say that propping up Mr. House is as fascist as helping Caesar, but as flavors of fascism go I find the *superhuman* "philosopher king" easier to swallow than a regular human being a militant autocrat, respectively.

--

As far as other posters saying Mr. House would go into insane decline... maybe? Seems like a reasonable speculation, but for a guy who's already pushing 280 he seemed to know the score more than most of the folks in the game. I didn't see evidence of him 'already going insane', personally, though maybe that's a matter of perspective... I don't think fancying snowglobes and robots is all that nuts under the circumstances. ;)

Good Karma Independent Vegas is the best ending if you upgrade the securitrons and make all the factions like you. Sure, it's alot of work, but I think it's worth it.

Mr. House is like Illusive Man, in his "ends justify the means" approach. Has it not been said that "The source of all evil is the belief that there is only one truth, and oneself is in possesion of it"?

NCR are generally "Good Guys" just stupid and incompetant. I like to have them as allies, but not the leaders.

Legion is just evil, no getting around that. For more info, see "Mr. House" above

Independant is the way to go, this is probably the best option because, though you won't be the next Lorenzo DeMedicci, you likely won't be the next Henry VIII either. Independant Vegas is better because there is less territory, more relatable and a trusted local face. Everyone knows it (seriously, talk to anyone in game who is not Mr. House, a Legion member or an NCR citizen, they all tell you this). Benny really had the right idea, shame he dies spoiler alert.

oh, and Mr. House is incredibly vain/arrogant and is already nuts.

If you enter the H and H building and hack certain terminals, you find out that he murdered his business partner and started wearing a tinfoil hat/ started firing people for "trying to steal his thoughts"

NCR are pretty nice guys, but can be kind of jerks as well. They obviously represent the international American steriotype (I live in Yahtzee-land, so I know. Seriously, I live just north of Brisbane and you can't go 2 steps without someone grumbling about how "America screwed up royal, even though they were trying to help"

Legion=Bastards. They kill/murder and are just the worst humanity has to offer.

really, independant is the only choice.

I chose to play as an Agent Of Chaos, people got on the wrong side of me, why I'd slaughter a town or two to make them fear me, I would worm my way into the core of each faction, then butcher the leaders and let them run around headless, through the butchery I committed all over the Mojave, I stripped away the false morality of the factions, I introduced anarchy and chaos, making sure that the strongest would be able to survive in a chaotic order under my watch after I fried Mr House and turned the killer robots onto the disorganised Legion and NCR.

That was his brother IIRC

As for the factions, I wouldn't go with the NCR.. they favor the return of the world to the old values, while in reality the wealthy control the goverment, exploiting everything they can get their hands on to increase the wealth of the core states. Colonialism at its best. But even if the 'old values' line were true, the world burned because of the old values, so no thanks.

I like the Legion a tad better.. while a culture based on slavery and violence at least they are honest about it. Plus it's a meritocracy.. the strong rise to power.. and my char was pretty strong. The biggest downside is that once Ceasar is gone, the empire is gone with him cause I doubt they can find somebody as competent to replace him AND garther enough favor to keep him in power.

Third option is independenat Vegas.. while tempting.. it wouldn't last. While the courier is alive to keep the peace, all is fine and well but once he's gone all the tribes are going their ways and it'll be nasty..

Best option is still Mr. House. He's ruthless and single minded, but he does have the best interest of HUMANITY in mind. Plus he never lies to you (although I expected the worst going to the casinos basement..), he only expects you to do your job and pays you well to do it.
And he still comes across as pretty sane considering all he's been trough.. I really don't see that changing. You have to be pretty eccentric and megalomaniac in the first place to be able to build a robot army, SDI defense to spare an entire region and pacify thousands of people after a century of savagery back to some resemblance of civilisation.

Caesar's Legion - A bunch of power hungry, slave owning murderers. Who want nothing better than to start a technology holocaust and kill anyone who owns a toaster since it's full of wires and uses witchcraft to turn your bread into fine, crispy toast. The end justify the means is their motto. And what that end is I'm not quite sure, and the means are just gutting people whose faces they don't like.

NCR - A bunch of power hungry, non-slave owning (that you know of) murderers. Who live to own the land and exploit it's and it's people's life source and make a huge living off it. Also they enjoy long walks on mine covered beaches, shooting people wearing blouses, and being quite corrupt. The most "good" orientated military group you'll run by in New Vegas and that's not saying much.

House - A dictator with a loyal (not by choice) army of robots. A man who hasn't seen the light of day in about a century or two but still commands more power than the president ever could or will. I wonder how he went from crazed robot company owner to insane ruler of a town solely based on gambling, drinking, and prostitutes? Well that's New Vegas for ya.

Yourself - Well that depends on the player. Could be a merciless bogeyman who enjoys eating babies or Jesus Christ reincarnated trying to bring peace and finally take up some carpeting.
Maybe your a medium and enjoy spending some days roasting peasants with the flamethrower you just stabbed a guy for. And afterward you feel guilty so you give some of your bottle cap collection to a bum, but then you realize you didn't feel guilty enough to be that generous and decide roasting one more peasant couldn't hurt. Whichever you are it's always about you, only you, and you owning New Vegas.

That's the run down. I can't and won't decide for you. So now I leave it for you to choose.

NCR or Mr. House. Mr. House has a plan though he can come of as an oppresive person. The NCR helps restore pre-war values but can be a bit inefficient and corrupt. The legion is effective, but too extreme for me. As for the wild card ending, you could make the right choices in the short term, but in the long term you could screw it up.

On a slightly related note wish I had an option of
upgrading the securitrons and giving them to the NCR to strengthen them. That would solve the spread to thin problem the NCR has.

I'm a HUGE Roman history/Latin nerd, so I had to choose Caesar's Legion. I think that, given time, the Legion would mellow out somewhat once they consolidated power and didn't have to worry about constant invasion/opposition. The treatment of slaves in ancient Rome was extremely good compared to most slaves in other cultures, and I think that the life of a Legion slave, in a few generations of peace, would rise to imitate the same.

I bet that most of that is my fangirling of ancient Rome speaking, though.

The Legion is also the only group that shows the power and willingness to protect trade caravans, instead of just their own military outposts/bases, as well. Say what you will about them, in an apocalyptic wasteland, they excel at keeping order and protection to those loyal to them.
