So I was thinking about the Lord of the Rings today and I was wondering who the many Escapists' favourite member of the fellowship was.

Mine is Boromir, mainly because of the movies as Sean Bean is awesome and the fact I always empathize more with human characters as they're not born into strict alignments like some fantasy races are, I understood his desire to what was good for his people even though it wouldn't work. Plus he got the best lines, both funny "They have a cavetroll" and dramatic "I would have followed you...my brother...my captain...my king".

Another key factor is when I was twelve and and reading the books, his death (is that a spoiler?) was like shit got real and I was worried that other characters would die through the book. Though really for named good characters it's him, Theoden and...?

I voted for Sam. Really, the whole story is based upon Frodo and Sam. With the others being merely side plots. Though the films make it seem otherwise.

I love the bonding that happens between them, how despite the many dangers they face, they have each other. That brotherly aspect, the love and respect that is shown between them is amazing to me and the fact that Sam never once gave up hope on Frodo, was amazing. The scene that really got me in both the book and film was "I can't carry it, but I can carry YOU!" I swelled up at that.

Really, the Hobbits are my favourite characters within the film. Devilishly smart, cunning and witty creatures, that have the courage of many men twice their size.

Boromir. Tormented characters are my thing. :)

I really despise rest of the group, especially Aragorn and Gandalf, because it was their role as a leader and advisor to prevent Boromir from falling, giving in to dark urges. Book is a slightly different from the movie, but do you remember the moment when Boromir and Aragorn talk in forest of elves ? You know, when elves mourn Gandalf...

All Boromir says is "i have no hope, i am so tired and i need help". What Aragorn says ? "Maaaan, i f*cking love an apple pie." What a bastard ! I'll bet my arse that he was already planning to steal the crown of Gondor then.

Cant decide between Gandalf or Boromir, because Boromir dies an absolute hero, and Gandalf is a FUCKING WIZARD!

EDIT: Also because Sean bean and Ian McKellen are both equally awesome.

Boromir.

imo, he was the most developed of the Fellowship. He showed the most psychological development and torment, showing that his love for a country and for the betterment of his people could eventually cloud his actions and cause him to make actions he would possibly regret.

Aragorn and Gandalf were already leaders. Frodo never got past his "I have the ring and I'm tormented. Mourn me!" thing. Sam kinda rivaled Boromir in development, but I thought Boromir had the best development out of all of them.

And, tbh, I barely remember Legolas and Gimli other than "They're awesome."

I've only seen the movies, but Pippin has a very special place in my heart. He's like a child in a lot of ways, with just enough naive hope to get by whenever he's in a particularly bad jam. The Legolas and Gimli bromance comes in at a close second, though.

Gimli. No other character could pull off being a badass despite being the comic relief about 75% of the time, and only occasionally actually being badass.

I'm going with this, no character in LOTR makes me smile quite like Gimli. Also, I loving how Frodo has no votes yet.

Boromir. always found him the most relatable and, i guess even the most "human" of all the characters, what with his desires for power, and glory.

Also, Sean Bean has been one of my favourite actors, ever since i watched James Bond: Goldeneye, when i was 5, and thought it was the best movie ever.

...too bad he usually dies in whatever role he's playing XP

It's an incredibly difficult choice. I would fall upon my knees before Aragorn OR Boromir, and even actorwise, it's an impossible choice between Ian McKellen and Sean Bean.

Ultimately, I'd probably vote for Aragorn, simply because I think he's a complete badass.

Difficult choice, I like them all, particualrly Boromir. But he is the obscure early character who dies off so everyone will vote for him, he is like the Boba Fett of lotr. I just can't decide so I wont vote.
