I follow a proper martial art. Boxing, which is very useful for defending yourself in real life situations by hitting the other guy until he stops hitting back and outside of the ring I don't mind using dirty techniques such as kicking my opponent in the family jewels.
Acctualy boxing is not a proper martial art. It only ever works if your opponent is incredibly inexperianced in real fighting.

Boxing is built around a very specific rule set. In real life fighting there are no rules and WAY to many ways to counter boxing moves.

Then again most martial arts are the same way. Stuff like karate, tai-quan-do, kung fu ect. are more about physical and mental discipline and self empowerment rather than actual defense. I practice a mixed martial arts style that focuses on only the most effective moves and counters for use in real life situations.
I've fought quite a few people very effectively using what I've learnt from boxing outside the ring, though your right that its less the techniques learnt and more on how I can hold my balance and throw and take a hard punch.

Didn't mean to say your choice of fighting is totally wrong (I think I might have worded that post wrong)

Just wanted to point out that boxing, while an effective fighting style in everyday situations, is not actually a true martial art.

Wasn't trying to imply you couldn't fight that way.

"Only with a weapon"? LOL.

Between someone who can only fight with a weapon, and someone who can only fight with their bare hands, it's pretty easy to pick the one I'd rather have on my side in a fight.

Not a master, but I practice Wing Chun regularly and I've beaten the shit out of a mugger before using the martial arts I learned

No, I don't think I've ever been in a physical fight. While I want to take martial arts in order to learn how to protect myself, I always keep my grandfather's pocket knife in my pocket in case I need to defend myself.

Well... i am trained... Shaolin Kempo Karate mainly but also i am very interested in other styles and techniques. But i am more of a fighting theoretecist(spelling?). I have near to zero combat experience, but i know how to hurt people.

So it depends. Against idiots i can protect myself... but against any experienced fighter i am dead meat. *g*

and some who can use a weapon, but not their bare hands...

id prefer the much more powerful, much deadlier, weapons specialist...

Um how do you do that exactly?
very easily... so long as you can defend yourself... you can do plenty of psychological stuff if you can keep them at bay... its one of my main strategies...

im amasing with a weapon :D i practice nearly everyday... though i am totally self-taught

without a weapon i fall down a bit... i dodge brilliantly... and i taunt a lot... (just not at the same time)
but i dont attack much... trip 'em up if they get too reckless :p

aggresive people are fun toys... yet... always so predictable...

the most impressive thing i ever did it a fight was...
run past the guys kick, grab the both the corners of his coat (so were back to back), then spun round really quick...
it was a ridiculous thing to try... im not sure where i was going with it...
but yeah... the coat folded over his head and the zip got really badly stuck in his hair lol...
more taunting... and then walking (jogging) away... heh :D i totally meant to do that... yup.
see..? :D i mean... noone ever considered me 'hard'... but i was in a lot of fights... and i always won...
i mean... there was one guy... who was egged on by his friends to fight me and he was really unsure... i kept taunting him... and he punched me in the face, then he ran off and cried? wth's that about? and... he actually got me >:/

Not a black belt, but I've taken Shotokan Karate and got to the sixth belt (the school has 10 belts from white to black). But my fighting skill comes from just being a big guy who can bench press a good portion of people I meet.

i know how to fight, unfortunatly i cant bring myself to hurt people, so it just ends up with me either walking away or me dropping my arms and letting them beat the shit out of me for hours

When I was a about 4 I started Taekwondo (srry if i misspelt) and carried on for a couple of years till i got to blue belt-red tag (not the highest belt grade but still a respectable level)

the problem is that as much as i may not like it, i'm too gentle and can't bring myself to fight people (one reason that led me to my current gamer lifestyle).

If pushed hard enough I could probably damage a person pretty badly, but that would be a Hayley's comet kind of rare occasion.

its actually one of the irony's of my life because for most of it i was bullied REALLY badly, but I'd just stand there and take the phisical and mental abuse when at the same time i could of beaten the shit out of most of them.
