OT: My partner has been gaming longer than I have. She loves old-school Nintendo, and she loved Bioshock and Portal when I gave them to her to play.

I've also had gamer girlfriends. I don't know why everyone thinks this is so rare these days - there are tons of female gamers now, more than... well, ever before. JRPGs recruit more female gamers than any other genre (which is why people should stop hating on them), particularly games like Persona 3 and 4 that have a strong focus on story. Also Xenosaga and Final Fantasy. And, the WRPG Dragon Age has done it's fair share as well. Great games all.

I know of a couple where the guy is a true gamer, and his girlfriend (when they started going out) didn't know much about games. Now they play classics the whole time, and occasionally easy time wasters together. Pretty good deal for them as they both major in chemical engineering and like video games.
I dated a gamer. It was a pretty bad relationship, she had mental issues and was the biggest weeaboo I've ever met, but she was a pretty decent gamer when she wasn't cutting herself or telling me to be "Brooding like sasuke." True story.

My girlfriend does play a little but not anywhere near as much as me. She was really into watching me play God of War 3, she really liked the story, she's into the whole Greek mythos. She absolutely loves Castlevania: SoTN so we play that pretty often. LBP2 she really likes too, what girl wouldn't though?
Basically so long as it's a game that isn't too complex and a story that isn't all gore and guns she'll be into it.

My girlfriend of six years is a gamer. She plays a lot of RPGs, puzzle games, HOGS, fighters, adventure games and simulators. The only games we don't have in common are RTS's and FPS's (but she did love Portal).
It's great having a gamer girlfriend but you have to make sure you have an extra gaming computer because she will take it over. Plus it sucks when you have to buy two copies of a game due to DRM.

I said kinda because she dosn't really play video games on her own but she knows It's important to me and will play some multiplayer games with me if I ask. Other than that she'll only play Teteris on her own. Not that that's a bad thing mind you, tetris is damn fun.
I know how you feel. But this isn't a gamer guy specific generalization. It's a fact that, even though we've come a long way in our views of women and ourselves, many people still aren't there yet and that we have a long ugly history to get over. While this type of insecurity and sexism is foreign to you and me, it's very real for many others even of our age group.zehydra said:

i know this is a thread aimed at guys but im a gamer girlfriend and actually right now my boyfriend is more into movies so theres a lot of me nerding out to old RTSs or an RPG or world of warcraft with him politely interested. Ive had gamer boyfriends but maybe its just the types of games i play or my tendency to get addicted to games (some RTS s ive played for two or three days straight) but i usually end up playing more games than them...to their usual chagrin
it is a generalization, but its still a thing that exists. I mean i have plenty of male friends who im on equal video game terms with, but there are plenty who feel the need to "backseat game" while im playing. The worst is usually when i play shooters with guys, theyll point out where the enemies are, tell me when to get behind cover, when to switch weapons, sometimes when to fire. My wife plays Plants Vs Zombies a hell of a lot. She also loves old school Genesis and SNES games, like Sonic 1-3, SMB, Donkey Kong, etc. I also got her in to Titan Quest, so I'm hoping to get Diablo III when it comes out. Mostly she plays the Cake Mania style games.
