I have never had a girlfriend period so... No, I have not. I am too shy to start a conversation with anyone I do not know really well, let alone actually asking a girl out.
Don't worry man. I use to be the same as you. You'll get over it in time. It's not that other people are braver than you, it's just that other people... don't care what people think of them. When you get to the point where you stop caring, you'll be fine.

No, but I'm looking for one.

Luckily I know a place where nerdy lesbians hang out. Not telling where.
Anime conventions? LOL No, seriously. I have a friend who's a lesbian. She's only slightly into anime but she comes to anime conventions with us anyway to pick up girls.

Yes, a few of them were into games. I've never been in long relationships however, so during the two weeks before I dump them I don't usually find out that much about them.
Had one that really hated that I played World of Warcraft though. Now she plays.

My wife plays Plants Vs Zombies a hell of a lot. She also loves old school Genesis and SNES games, like Sonic 1-3, SMB, Donkey Kong, etc. I also got her in to Titan Quest, so I'm hoping to get Diablo III when it comes out. Mostly she plays the Cake Mania style games.
That's a big problem anymore. Games aren't as accessible as they use to be. Someone who picks up gaming for the first time is going to spend 10 minutes in Mass Effect then turn the console off. While anyone can pick up and enjoy super mario world or old sonic the hedgehog games. Why have the consoles abandoned these kinds of games?
No they haven't have you ever taken even a look at Xbox LIVE, PSN, DSiware, almost the entire Wii library.

There are an absurd amount of Pick up and play games.

Maybe you don't notice them because you just don't play them anymore.

I hadn't even considered the existence of non-character based stories. I honestly don't see how something like that could exist.

My girl games but I dunno if she is a 'gamer' per say. I'm the gamer... but we're both girls. SO we're both gamer girlfriends. CRAZY.

I'm a gamer-girl and me & my boyfriend met through a steam gaming community. So for anyone who says they cant find a girlfriend who loves to play games as much as they do - get Steam! :]

I recently encouraged my girlfriend to play more video games with me. Now she wants to play Super Mario Bros Wii all the time, haha. And she keeps forgetting what "Soul Calibur" is called and calls it "Soul Crusher" instead.

I've had two, and I can say with confidence that the desirability of having a significant other that plays video games is blown way the hell out of proportion when you realize how much fun they aren't. After two separate girlfriends asked me to bring my laptop whenever we hang out so we could play WoW together, I decided that the only kind of girl I'd anchor myself down with would have to be the outgoing type. Don't get me wrong, I still like female gamers, but unless they've got their gaming habits properly prioritized, odds are really slim that I'll ever consider them more than just friends.

My current girlfriend was a very casual gamer when we first met, but she's gotten more into them because of me. Before, she only played casual games, Sims, and the occasional round of CoD zombies. Now she plays Left 4 Dead, Borderlands, Torchlight, WoW, Rift, and KotOR. I know I'm forgetting some. She's a dynamo in bed too, so it's all good.

If someone uses success at videogames to prop up their masculinity (I'm looking at you XBox Live) then being beaten at Street Fighter by your girlfriend is emasculating. If I were feeling cynical (and I am) I would say that what guys really want is a girl who will watch _them_ play videogames and make appreciative noises at regular intervals.
Huh, glad I'm not one of those guys.

When I watch my GF play, I'm usually cheering encouragement.

And when I saw her DECIMATE this one boss in No More Heroes 2 without even letting him ATTACK...I turned to her and said "That was incredible. Good job!".

So if anything I'M giving the appreciative noises at regular intervals. And I honestly don't mind. XD

...about equal with gaming tastes, we prefer co-op games to play together, doesn't really matter what type of game, as long as there is co-op campaign.
I like doing that too. So far, my GF and I have only played one Co-Op game together, but I hope we end up playing way more. I've played a lot of co-op (RE5, etc) with my best buddy, so I know how fun it is, so I hope my GF and I have more opportunities to have those kinds of moments.

Kidding. I am one of your aforementioned gamer girls (writer for gamergyrl.com actually) and have always wondered whether or not guys preferred ladies who game. When I whip out my imported Japanese PSP or take over for a friend in a SSFIV match, guys always seem more stunned than excited.

Is it possible that girl gamers are too intimidating?
You may be on to something. I refer you to:

It's their loss then. I can't imagine wanting someone I care for just sitting by and watching me play. I'd much rather like to play co-op with them, or actually, being the one watching.

Nope, my girlfriend is really supportive of my hobby, and seems intrigued by some of my games especially Ass. Creed 2 (she's a big Renaissance nerd), but doesn't actually touch them herself.

What's nice is that, even though she clearly has no interest in the medium herself, she's more than willing to make the effort to engage me in my discussions about the same.

I'm friends with a lot of girls who are gamers, and actually very few of my guy friends game. It's like I live in some strange reversal of the rest of the world where there's all these gamer girls sighing over the fact they never meet any good gamer guys...

Never had a girlfriend and only know one girl who plays games. Unfortunately she only plays games like Halo and CoD and general mainstream stuff that's just plain boring (in my opinion). If I met a chick who played Pokemon or JRPGs in any form I may even break out of this damn shell of mine and make her my girlfriend. Though the chances of that happening are way too low for me to want to think about.
I know how you feel :(

Kinda, I had one that would play some games... I definitely wouldn't call her a gamer though.

I eventually proved to be too much gamer, and too much awesome, which eventually lead to the break up.

... Civilization has a story? I had no idea. I assumed it was like Age of Empires 2. Unless, according to you, Age of Empires 2 had a story, in which case I think you and I have different definitions of the word "story".

Yes please elaborate. The story has got to be good.
So we were planning a Gears of War 2 2v2 tournament at work for the next night. This guy in his mid to late 20s comes in. He's all excited about the tournament and how it's been so long since he played Gears. He starts regaling us with a story about how he was Number 1 online for a bit (only a couple weeks), and that's where he got his cog-tags (which he was wearing and showed us).

He apparently played it religiously, and would ignore his wife whenever she wanted attention. She would try to hop onto his lap naked to get his attention but to no avail apparently, he just REALLY wanted to play Gears. So, one day she came after him with a knife, and stabbed him in his left hand cutting a tendon. He showed us his gnarly scar that went from his base of his thumb to about the base of his palm.

I honestly don't know who is justified in this situation, but man, that's some dedication on his part...

I've never had a gamer girlfriend, but I am a gamer girlfriend. My girlfriend, however, does not game. She does think it's cute that I do, though.
