Poll: Greatest FPS of all time?

I'd take Perfect Dark over Goldeneye. It has all the weapons of Goldeneye, a whole bunch more weapons, really well done AI bots to play against when your bored or need more people in a multiplayer match and it has FAR more mechanics that all blend seemlessly.

Perfect Dark for the N64 is still the best FPS I've ever played and it is why when I played Halo I felt cheated and didn't really get the 'awesome' that everyone else did .

Never got to play perfect dark so I wouldn't know anything about it, I'm probably biased though because Goldeneye was the game that got me into gaming, so it holds a special place with me.

Even now I think you should go try it. It's probably cheap on ebay or something.

It is literally an upgrade of Goldeneye. You can even unlock most of the popular levels from goldeneye in multiplayer (they aren't exactly the same though but that's certainly not the selling point its just an extra).

Nice pick I still play Turok 1 (on the PC) sometimes. Modern FPS cant beat that oldschool gameplay.

There are a lot of old games that got me playing FPS but there are 3 that stand out more than all of the others from my childhood.

Duke Nukem
Shadow Warrior (Think Asian Duke Nukem)

Redneck Rampage & Route 66 expansion. How many other game promote drinking and eating pork rinds. Beating your best buddy over the head with a crow bar to beat a level. Multiple shotgun shots to take down a cow, and using them as cover. Walking turds, female aliens with machine guns, bowling balls... and more mindless fun.

Im gonna say Call of Duty 4. It's not flawless, but it's close. The Old FPS games are the beacons of modern games, and therefore I simply can't vote for one of them, since they don't represent the "best FPS of all time". Duke Nukem 3D has a special place in my heart, as the game who brought me online, but its not the game which I played the most.

My favorite would have to be *Ready's Flameshield* Halo 3.

I have had mroe fun on that game with my friends than any other online game.

i'm guessing most people who picked other said that it was half-life. you know , any thing with the world's greatest classic FPS thread should say half-life isn't aloud, as that's much to obvious.

Doom set the groundwork and is probably one of the most ported FPSs of all-time.

Just cause those games are old doesn't mean they're "the best games of all time".

OT: I'm not really sure,there's so many different types of shooter games and what-not that it's hard to ever declare the one and only best shooter.

I said other because the Topic title says 'ever' but then I read the poll which says 'classic'.
But only seeing screenshots of any of them (I'm too young) I don't know, but I'm pretty sure modern(er) FPS's would be better.

well not to be a bunhie fan boy but HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED was amazing. It made the XBOX it also made gaming somewhat cool. It got tons of people into gaming.

If we're talking about classic then I'd have to say Marathon. If we're talking about the greatest FPS of all time (regardless of when it was released) then I'd have to say Star Wars: Republic Commando. The campaign is fun and really draws you in, but the multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired.

Second Place of the greatest FPS of all time is Counter-Strike (the first one). Sure, the graphics aren't up to snuff when compared to Gears of War 2 or Half-Life 2, but it's still fun dog gonit!

I'd say Perfect Dark because of all the time I spent on it at a friends without getting bored. Or possibly TS2 because it was hilarious.
