Grenades these days have a short fuse of about 3 seconds depending on the grenade.
Best way to survive would be to NOT run away but kick it away ifclose enough and dive into cover or at least further away from the grenade. Even so far as about 3-4 meters (roughly 10-13ft.) your chances of survival are increased if you are lying flat on the ground, as the shrapnel propelled by the blast rise at an angle. Most grenades have effective radius of 5m or 15ft. but can still cause severe injuries at 15m or 45ft.
This is considering hand held fragmentation grenades. RPGs and mortar shells are a whole different issues.

Gaming has honed my sense of danger and has given me the amazing reflex to do a combination of Jumping into the air, swearing and examining the grenade all at the same time.

Knowing that i can´t run 10 meters in under a second i´d probably jump for cover or kick it back(you hardly have the time for both, but you can try), but in either of these situations, the chance of dying is extremely high...
Well my CO said that immidiate cover would be your best option, all others are bound to fail.

kick it and run. They're not pressure sensored so you could probably get away with giving it a little boot and running behind something.

Jump and lay down 1-2 meters from it. granades explodes in a V up in the air. and for the love of Valhalla, dont pick it up. you dont know if it's been "pinned" (pulled the pin, hold it for 2 sekunds, and then trown)
Not true of shrapnel grenades. They will still kill you even if you try that.

But yhea, do not pick it up. A grenade can kill you from over 15 meters away, the blast goes even further if it goes off in the air.

Something similar happened to me once, I was at the dublin riots and the cops fired tear gas grenades, and I was quite proud of myself, I managed to throw it back before it went off. The morons weren't wearing gas masks either.
Hahahahahahaha. Lad. Hope you weren't causing trouble?

If the pin is still in say thank you and take it, I might need it later when I inevitably face a giant enemy crab because I can toss it under it and attack its weak point for massive damage.

If the pin was out, depends on where it lands relative to me and what objects are near. I'd likely instictivly kick the thing and run like hell yell "shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit poo shit shit shit."

'Kick it away'? Seriously? xD

I went with 'Oh Sh-' cause I always think it's hilarious when enemies do that in games, and I might as well have some amusing last words (one and a half last words, to be precise) if I'm about to kick the bucket.

Or the grenade, in the cases of some...
