My views?

The USA shouldn't ban guns. Americans are too attached to their guns to give them up, and the availability of guns is so high currently that banning them would lead to loads of illegal ones being around.

The UK should keep guns banned, because gun accidents and crime would increase a lot, and gun crime would replace knife crime.

To people who say guns are just tools- they are killing tools so treating them like normal tools is not right.
Guns for self defence isn't that good a reason. People arguing for it act like every single criminal wants to kill you and that by having a gun you are completely safe. This isn't the case. If you go for a gun a criminal is far more likely to shoot you then if you're unarmed.
I think guns so the government doesn't take over remains a stupid excuse. Not only is it very unlikely but if the government has military support do you really think you can do anything against well trained and equipped soldiers?

Guns were made for the single purpose of making shit die. So no matter where, when or to whom you give them shit will die. Still, I don't live in America and I've never really cared to familiarize myself with the "gun problem" so I find it hard to have an opinion on the subject of outlawing.

In response to the thread title: Guns are not bad. They are objects, and as such do not have the ability to be right, wrong, good, bad, chaotic, lawful, good, or evil, or even neutral.

In other news: Guns are fun. If you've ever gone shooting, you'd understand this.

I don't live in america so I put that down, but I don't believe guns should be outlawed, I reckon that America seriously needs to tighten down on their security though or you'll continue to have 10,000+ deaths every year by guns. It's crazy, if they had laws like Australia did and it was quite difficult to obtain guns, you could at least half that number. But then again, that might just inspire more illegal arms dealing and self constructed weapons that could be more dangerous. But think about it like this Canada has the same amount of guns as American yet, there deaths by year from gun shots are not even 10% of the deaths in america, do the math. What's wrong with the US? Is it TV? Is it the newspaper? Is it the gangs? Is it just that their are more ghetto's in United states then anywhere else? I dunno what to think really, but back to the point, they should crack down on gun security and do it fast! Making guns illegal would do nothing, people will always find a way to get their guns just make it so you know who they are.

*Sigh* This again? Very well.

Quite simply, if you outlaw guns then only criminals will have guns, and people will be unable to defend themselves. If you look at the numbers, states with more lenient gun laws have far lower violent crime rates than those with strict gun laws--this is because criminals are less likely to break into the house of someone they have reason to believe owns a gun.
Think im abit late to qoute you here as other may well of already done so but, What!?

89% of the WORLDS homicides are committed in the US.... I hear they have pretty strict gun laws... oh wait, they dont!

If someone breaks into my house, ide beat on them with brass knuckles or a bat but i wouldnt shoot them because i kinda dont want to kill anyone...just defend my property and family :p

I see how you would feel that because guns are already in circulation, if they are taken away from law abiding citzns then the criminals would be the ones holding all the cards(guns), but if years ago they had been banned for all there wouldnt be this problem and the longer its left the harder it will be when a ban is actually enforced.

Guns = Bad

dont say its not the guns its the people, its like saying drugs arnt bad unless someone takes them. "The gun doesnt kill them its the crazy people behind it"-"The gun doesnt kill them, its the bullet from the gun"-"Any excuse to keep my gun and fuck up a society

Wheres the gun free eutopia i was promised! guess im just dreaming.

I have a vault of guns in my basement so I must argue for a citizens right to bear arms. Gun laws have never stemmed gun-related crime in this country, look at New York and California. Saying that people can't have guns because they might go on a killing spree is the equivalent of saying that people can't have matches because they might burn down the forest. The government needs guns to fulfill their purpose, so if civilians don't have guns then we can't do anything if the government imposes martial law(improbable but possible,) yet if we do have guns then we can get a half-decent resistance movement going.

There are dangerous animals/pests in some of the plains and the less populated areas of the US than in the UK and Japan. Kinda hard to get rid of a bear that happens to be in your house unless you have a firearm.

Outlaw the firearms that were obviously designed for killing human beings. Like assault rifles, handguns, SMGs and so on.
Hunting rifles are fine.

Only because you asked so nicely.

And yes, I've actually watched a 30.06 round bounce off of a black bear's skull. Suffice it to say, I had to change my pants when I got home from that hunting trip.

Also, guns are not inherently "good" or "bad".
They are a tool.

They can no more be "bad" than a screwdriver can be.
I can't say any more than this, and also post a quote that I (as a UK Escapist) think is needed here.

"The gun is the tool. The Mind is the weapon"

People who argue against guns fail to realize a very, very key component. People who do criminal acts with guns are criminals. Criminalizing the ownership of guns won't suddenly make criminals go "Oh. It's illegal? I'll stop using my illegally possessed guns!"

No, instead they'll rejoice and crime will sky rocket as was the case in England.

However a gun has no function in your every day life.
If you are not hunting every day then you do not need a gun so yes. They should be outlawed.
So if something has no function in everyday life it should be outlawed?
I don't go put my boat in the water every day, should that be outlawed?
I can't use my pool in the winter, should that be outlawed?
I don't take pictures every day, should cameras be outlawed, now?
And there are people who go out and hunt every day.
