Artists always hate their work, it's what drives them; if they didn't, they'd never strive to progress their talent, and will just end whoring out the same shit on DeviantArt all the time.

Even though there's several things I've made that I take pride in and I think are quite good, of course there's the failed attempts, the songs that don't quite feel right, the sig that doesn't blend right, the constant question of "Could I have done better?" or "Does this express exactly what I'm trying to do...?"

Of course there is some of it I dislike, but overall, anything I've made/produced/created ends up being some sort of learning experience, so there is good in all failures as well.

Mostly I draw gay porn. The crowd for that is supremely easy to please, but all that really means is that I have to pay close attention to my progress. Looking back on my old work makes me cringe and/or want to stab myself.
I found this incredibly funny for reasons I cannot explain.

I don't hate my art, but i'm aware of the fact that it needs improvement constantly

I always find flaws in my writing, and it drives me to try to improve.
For example, I cannot write prose at all so I'm trying to practice it as much as I can.

Yep. It's quite unusual for me to like what I draw/paint/write/etc. My family, friends and art teacher say it's all really good, but... Meh.

Me and my friends produce and act in our own films/shows. At the moment we're doing a sitcom. And me and a friend are writing it, when we're writing it I love but the minute I see the finished production I hate it because its never quite as good as I feel it should be or i see how we could have done it better. Also we go over the script loads all the jokes loose any punch. But I figure if I get too pleased with myself the writing and humour will go stale and won't be funny/interesting.

I write a lot, and the ideas are good but half the time if I read through something before I'm finished with it, I have to restart or totally redo it because I find some minor flaw that I can't get past.

I've grown to both love and hate the music video my buddy made for me, because everyone constantly references it and it has gotten pretty stale with me. If you wanna see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IObykt39Xsc

You can tell something like that is going to haunt you.

I hate everythig I draw...because I can't draw. I HATE writing, but people say that I am good at it, so I try to outlast my hate long enough to see if that is true. I still haven't succeeded.

I think it's only natural to hate what you create. Or I hope so because I always seem to do it in the end, even if people tell me it's brilliant.

I'm just a perfectionist.

That's what I love when I'm editing something. As I'm actually doing it I'm thinking, "my god, I am a genius! The way this part syncs with the music, and they way that part seamlessly cuts to this other part! People should worship me!" But once I finish I find myself watching going, "Ugh, what a piece of garbage." Art is funny that way.

There's probably some sort of balance between perfectionist and unconcerned that's best.

People who are never satisfied with their work are annoying, they nitpick and can never take a compliment. They probably won't get much work done as they either hide it out of unnecessary embarrassment or never finish anything. It's also very stressful on you to expect and try and make everything perfect.

On the other hand, and as other people have pointed out, you need to be willing to recognize your flaws and work to improve yourself. If you're satisfied with the bare minimum, you won't improve in the area you're working on.

I create drawings. Its what I do and what I want to do with my life. I would even go as far as to say I am an "artist". I am a drawing and painting major at a school which is considered to have one of the best fine arts programs in Canada. I make my art for my own sake. I create it because I enjoy it and because I like what I create. When I don't like something I'm creating it turns out, generally, bad.
It actually takes a lot of effort or me to work up the pretentiousness and arrogance required to call myself and "artist.

I can't stand the things that I create, which is typically writing. I try to stuff up my old stuff so I'll never find them again (but I don't have the heart to throw them away or burn them).

the saying goes that You are your worst critic.
Sometimes you hate what you do, and sometimes you don't. it doesn't really say anything about you unless you like your stuff so much that you refuse to improve, or hate your stuff so much that you consider it a lost cause.

I happen to like most of what I make, just because I know what effort went into it, but I have a bad habit of downplaying my abilities, or giving up because I don't think I can do it.

You do realize that by using my name, you call me forth from the depths of Hell, right?

And you'd better have a damn good reason for doing so.
Quick question, since when did you have internet fanboys? Seems like your becoming a sellout lately ;)
