I want to know how many people have played the original games.

Honestly the stuff I'm reading on the boards about what people think the history behind Fallout 3 & NV is... it's pretty obvious most have not played the first 3 games.

(Don't you dare include that horrible Xbox DL from a few years ago...)

Fallout got me into gaming almost 15 years ago... So: Prove yourself a Fallout Fanatic.

Yes I played all three for a while and I zzzzzzzzz...

Excuse, I used up all of my APs hitting those keys and had to wait for them to replenish.

So, anyway, as I was saying, the first three zzzzzzz...

I've read a lot about Fallout 1, and played most of Fallout 2. I had to stop playing the later because the archaic gameplay mechanics and crippling glitches had rendered the game unenjoyable. Still, I can see why they were praised games for the time they were made in. And despite enjoying Fallout 3 much more, I can see why old fans hate the game so much. As for Tactics, I know next to nothing about it. Never seemed to get much attention, though isn't considered a black sheep like Brotherhood of Steel.

One of the things I like about New Vegas is that there are a ton of references to all the old games.

Played Fallout 1. Really liked it.

Played Fallout 2. Didn't like it. Got very bored very quickly.

Never played Tactics.

Played Fallout 3. It was... ok.

Haven't got New Vegas. Might get it in a year or so. Once the price has dropped and the bugs have been stamped out.

Yep. I actually played Tactics first as it was the game that naturally followed Icewind Dale (both are party based and combat focused). Later I played 1 and 2. I liked 2, didn't much care for 1 but very generally preferred the combat mechanics of Tactics.

I actually liked the Xbox beat'em'up game... maybe because I had a friend to play it with and we didn't care at the time that they replaced nuka cola with bawls.

I did play the earlier games, when they were new, and just couldn't wrap my mind around them for long enough for them to get good.

I played all of them, save the that xbox game, and am currently playing through fallout new vegas. NV has an absurd amount of references to the first too in it, which i find slightly enjoyable, since i know which copter that person crashed in fallout 2, but i also find them slightly annoying. While there should be a link between NV and the first two, i dont need to be reminded of it every second. I understand why people like Fallout 3, but i feel they are way overlooking a lot of the downside in the game. Fallout 3 is closer to tactics than it is to fallout 1 or 2, IMO. Also, since when did developers lose their mature rankings? Seduction and attraction was a big thing in the first two fallouts, female PCs could lower prices by sleeping with people and we all remember the forced marriage. But in these new installments it's as if no one is attracted to anyone at all.

The references are the best part of the Fallout games. Like the Whale and Bowl of Petunias in Fallout 2. The pop culture references in all the games are what make them so much fun.

In Tactics you could run into the 4 horsemen chatting away around a campfire, among a few other random encounters that caused me to guffaw when playing.

My favorite so far... SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

Having sex with the robot named Fisto just outside The Strip in New Vegas. THAT was funny as hell.

Game makers could get away with alot more back in the day.
Thank politicians for screwing up our fun in the current games. One little thing and someone FREAKS OUT and asks for a new law.

Actually Zero Punctuation just did an episode about that. Go watch it.

I've probably finished both F1 and F2 about ten times each, i completely played the shit out of those games.. I also later found a cheat file thingy that let you choose all perks, and put as many points into strength and all those as you wanted to, making you flocking superhuman..

I remember also having alot of fun with that, beeing so strong that i really did not need weapons or anything.. I could just point at people and they would die, and their stuff would be mine.. Ahhhhh goooood times!!

I've played fallout 1, 2, tactics, and 3.

I only really play 1 and 3 any more. (Mostly because I was sick of being OHK'd by enclave patrols -didn't even have a chance to run just *BANG* dead- and the oringal fallouts combat was awful why would I want to play a game based around it?

I've completed 1, 2 and 3. I've played 5 minutes of tactics and 5 hours of New Vegas. I just couldn't get into tactics( to be fair, I should give it more of a chance) and I would be playing NV now. If my brother wasn't already doing it.

I've played 1 and 2, but not tactics.

I loved fallout 1, but never really got into 2. It was a bit too merciless and random for me. The second bad guys you meet can poison you -before there are antidotes-. You can turn entire towns against you by answering surprise conversations wrong.

Being unforgiving can be an immersive thing, but it needs to be balanced against good game design, and Fallout 2 phlumphs it in that regard.

I bought them on Steam...

They've aged as badly as Baldur's Gate.

As in, I never made it through my first hour.

How come? I've become utterly addicted to 1, can't wait for 2. From what I've heard Tactics is a bit different, so I'll reserve my judgement for that. At the moment I'm just annoyed by encountering random Super Mutant patrols who tear my party apart in a couple of shots. Poor Tycho couldn't even survive the first minigun attack.

But the freedom on how to solve quests, the openness compared to modern-day action-focused RPG's is something I really miss in those new RPG's, especially Fallout 3 and Oblivion. I'd love a game with the best of both worlds.

BECAUSE IT BORES ME.

Hell, even Planescape: Torment bored me off of GoG.
