A genius, clearly. Almost certainly a perfectionist - and he makes it look effortless. Miyazaki's films have delighted us for three decades. But which is your favourite?

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Mononoke. It marries a classic Miyazaki narrative (kid quietly runs off and saves the world) with relevant concerns (industry versus natural environment) in a beautifully-realised, self-contained world, full of complex characters who defy simplistic depictions of good and evil. Plus it's for slightly older kids like me. (I'm 28.)

N.B. I've left out The Castle of Cagliostro due to lack of space. I've left out Ponyo because it's not to be seen on this fair green isle 'til Feb 2010!

Totoro was the first movie I have ever seen by him, and perhaps my first movie ever. Can't remember too well.

However, all his movies have a unique artistic genius that bring smiles to the faces of those who watch them.

I like Nausicaa. Cap'n picard, bitches! And uma thurman to boot.

My fiancee, however, is an absolute totoro fanatic, so I'm marking that to represent.

Studio Ghibli?

I'd Of chosen Cagliostro just because it was a Lupin III film.
out of those choices... I'll say Howl's Moving Castle

Castle of Cagliostro beats out anything Ghibli has produced in the last 20 years, that much is fact.

Mononoke, I feel while the animation has remained beautiful, his stuff isn't as good as it used to be way as of late.

They're all excellent ( I haven't seen Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind yet), but my very favorite is Porco Rosso, as it managed to dip into mysticism without indulging in the fantasy and had a very simple, natural story that lent itself to humor well, like in that final dogfight.

Howl's Castle, hands-down. Not only does it depict an awesome steampunky world (always a plus), it shows what I always thought magic should be: a lot deeper and more complicated then wiggling sticks and mumbling a bit of latin. Plus, Calcifer is just so fucking convenient.

Totoro. First one I've seen and (maybe because of it) still my number one. Princess Mononoke is awesome though.

Miyazaki isn't a genius, it's just that his reasonably-above-average films shine like the finest ruby-encrusted diamonds in comparison to the badly-animated, sloppily-paced, misogynistic drivel that makes up 99% of the competition in this genre.

Out of the ones I've seen I liked Spirited Away the best and Kiki's Delivery Service the least.

They all sound silly and not worth the time to watch. I'm going with Option J: Apocalypse Now!

Castle of Cagliostro all the way, I do love that film. Considering it isn't there.

I voted Mononoke, as that was on a few days ago, and I do love that film also, though not as much

Unfortunately I've only seen the last three of them, so I'm gonna say it's a tie between Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.
