A genius, clearly. Almost certainly a perfectionist - and he makes it look effortless. Miyazaki's films have delighted us for three decades. But which is your favourite?
Personally, I'm a huge fan of Mononoke. It marries a classic Miyazaki narrative (kid quietly runs off and saves the world) with relevant concerns (industry versus natural environment) in a beautifully-realised, self-contained world, full of complex characters who defy simplistic depictions of good and evil. Plus it's for slightly older kids like me. (I'm 28.)
N.B. I've left out The Castle of Cagliostro due to lack of space. I've left out Ponyo because it's not to be seen on this fair green isle 'til Feb 2010!
