I've got some 25 years of gaming experience under my belt, and in a scenario where everybody is new to the game I'll typically have an advantage just from overall gaming familiarity.

However, when the scenario changes to everybody getting practice in, I typically I don't stick with it long enough to become really good. I'm not like a spastic Korean professional gamer...
... because I play games to enjoy myself, and that doesn't look like a whole lot of fun to me. When a game bores me, I don't try harder, I just move on to something else.

I'm a beast online, I don't think that's skill though more than that I know exactly what do to gain as many points as possible quickly.

I too have been gaming since about 3, but the first game I can actually remember playing is the original tomb raider.

Oh and if a game where you play a guy in red armour (I think) on a space station (I think) fighting aliens (I think) from an isometricish top down perspective (I think) from the nintees sounds familiar to anyone and if that anyone can tell me what it's called you will be my favourite person ever and will win as many internets and cookies as they can carry.

I can probably put up a fight against the best in just about any game with a bit of practice.
~17 years of gaming does net you some skills.

Although I'm not very good at racing games, relatively speaking.
Also, puzzles. I suck at those too.

All my friends stopped playing with me... >.>

Well, that's half true. No one wants to play RTS with me anymore because apparently i'm too good. That being said i've never played competitively online because I, personally, don't think i'm good enough or have enough attention span.

So, I'd say I could make it to the top 20% of a game's players if I put serious effort in to it but since I don't I'm likely just about in the top 50%.

Also, my favourite strategy is the Turtle into Steamroll. One brilliant masterstroke that cannot be denied!

...Which is why FPS is my least favourite genre I guess.

Depends on the game. On TF2, my goal is usually "half way up the scoreboard", but in other games, like Alien Swarm, my goal is to look like the chosen one of Khorne himself and win.

And for some odd reason, in Serious Sam, I hate losing any health at all.

I'm actually quite good at first-person and third-person shooters. Suck balls at real-time strategy games. Am pretty good at western RPG's but not so good at JRPG's.

Pretty much if I have to multi-task a lot (constant inventory keeping or waging war on different fronts) I do terrible. So I'm REALLY good at FPS game modes that don't have re-spawning (Counter-Strike, Search and Destroy, etc).

Depends on the game. I'm unorthodox but quite good at shooters, good at platformers and RPGs, but I suck at racing games, beat 'em ups and hack 'n' slash. I'm decent enough at strategy games. I guess I'm well above average at the game types I like, but I just plain suck at game types I don't like.

I'm good in RTS games, but nothing spectacular. FPS games I'm not really good in unless I can apply strategy into it. I was raised on RTS games, FPSs were too violent, so I really became good at 3rd person RTS/strategy.
