In all honesty, I think humanity will last a long time. Many species last millions of years, and with our medicine and technology, we should live at least that long. If we don't nuke ourselves to death, that is.

We're the only species on Earth that has the capability to perceive large scale problems. And if we can spot a problem, we can understand it, and take actions to fix that problem. When your back's to the wall, you come up with some pretty creative solutions.

Existence as we experience it is a complex assortment of neurons in our brain sending signals to other neurons based on input from various other neurons through out our bodies so we could very well be in the Matrix as we speak or just code running on an immensely intricate simulation of the universe in an unbelievably powerful computer/s ala Big O.
