Don't start with that nonsense. It is called football. Deal with it.
Take a joke to heart more.

Please, do.
Kinda hard when the "joke" is repeated ad nauseum every time the topic is brought up.
I think people get so mad about this joke because it straight up makes sense, the only times you use feet in football are for kickoff, field goal, PAT, and punts. The time the ball is on a foot during a game is about 1:99999 compared to it being in contact with hands. How about we just use futbol for football, and let yall keep the nonsensical football.
I don't see why people can't just, know you, ignore it if you don't like it. It just comes off as being snarky to Americans.

Massive football/soccer fan here. I've always wondered why the Escapist doesn't have a running football thread or a fantasy league or something - always just assumed the interest wasn't there.
Which league would they run it with?
Heh, that's a fair point. Champions League one would cover most countries, although I'd probably argue most people here are English/American so maybe the EPL would be good, since the MLS sucks. And I know nothing about it :p

Of course it's like 3 months or so until the next season.
Woah, show some love for the Serie A! I'm pretty sure that any major league would find an alright fan base here (maybe not MLS, but Germany, England, Italy, Spain at least would have pretty big fans I think).

Forza Milan!
lol, see what I mean!

I'm American too and I love handegg, at least college, I'm not following the draft as much as I should but that's what being a busy college student gets you. I also love football too, so it's frustrating when I start talking about football then someone's like "huh?" and I have to go "*sigh* soccer, the real football, ya know the one that uses feet and a ball?"

I play a lot of sports. I really enjoy more solo sports such as swimming, tennis, running, hiking, martial arts, and rock climbing. This summer I'm gong to see if my brother-in-law can teach me to surf as he's big into that. Archery is fun; it's not something I do regularly, but I have a friend who's big into it. I'd also like to learn diving. I and some other cadets have a workout routine to prepare us for Army diving. Ballroom dancing is fun if you count that as a sport.

i was like you before, never was interested in watching football games. i'd rather play my ass off until i run outta air. but as time grows, and ESPECIALLY if you have a favorite team, you can learn about moves, skills, formations, positioning, and effective play.

my two cents

I like sports, listen to a sports show every week day. Watch my baseball and watched the NFL draft last night.

Surely that the depends on the level you're watching though? National sports are about watchingh people at the top of the game, where as amatuer sports I can see you point. For some people though it's like going to watch a band/film, they can't do it themselves, but they like to be part of the spectacle.

I play badminton whenever I get time and sometimes go to the gym. I find watching other people playing sport, whether it be the TV or a live game, excessively dull. Better playing it than watching it.

Exactly :) I used to follow Serie A, but it's been a long time since I have, probably not since they took it off Channel 4! I think it might be fun to do it with a small league (like belgium) that nobody really knows about, make it fun and not serious!!

Don't think CL would work, people would only bother with players from the top teams and once the smaller teams went out you'd start getting players with a top score of 5 points for their whole team. EPL might work, though I'm sure people would complain "what about the SPL?".

Edit; 3 months is fine, allows us player costs to be worked out!
Heh, I was totally thinking we could find a free one online, all sign up to it, and then make a user group here or something haha. For instance I've done a similar thing this year with http://fantasy.premierleague.com/. Also anyone who likes the SPL needs to get out. Ugh.

Italy would be great too! Or Germany! Spain I dunno just because it's so two sided that any player who isn't from Barca/Madrid/not Sergio Aguero are all (relatively) terrible. That's kinda why I said Champs League - everyone happy! only downer is the fact there is less games and so less points :(

Lets end this while we are both civil. Not like the draft matters. Odds are there won't be a season this year, anyway. The NFL is already appealing that judge's decision to a pro-business court.

As a sports journalist, I love all sports and their flaws.

Baseball, and it's way too long season

American Football, and the people trying to ruin it

Basketball, and the shift of players to their favorite teams, leaving everyone else to rot

Hockey, and its lack of interest outside of northern states and Canada because it thought a strike was a good idea when it wasn't making money.

Euro Football, and the players who act like a sniper blew off their kneecap every time somebody brushes them

Rugby, and it's terrible lack of play in the U.S.

Tennis, and its complete lack of watchability

Golf, and its effective use as a sleep aid

MMA, despite the idiots in and out of the octagon.

I have to love sports, its my job. Then again, it's the job I wanted my whole life, so... I can't really complain.
Snooker?

That could be good fun, especially if we could do it in a mini league!

I like sports, but I dislike watching them.

Seriously, I see no point to it, even for the ones I play.
