i cant truly say i am more intelligent thanothers, but academically i excell and always have done. i go to a grammar school and am in the top 2 in the year. however i sold the belief that the ability to answer questions in a test is not true intellectual ability and so this is not really representative of my intelligence necessarily.

According to an official IQ test I'm considerably above average so...
oh and I am the most intelligent person in my class so either I'm smart or they are all idiots.

epends how you say it. If it is learning potential than I am considerably above average, cause I go to a private (smarter than most state schools) school, and am among the best in my year at 'picking things up'. As far as the whole, 'well you can't be that smart if you did this (insert activity here)' (basically common sense), then I have it, but I put it in a locked safe inside a barrel which i locked in a bigger safe, dropped into the deepest part of the ocean and then took the entire part of the ocean (safe-barrel-safe included) and put it in the back of my sock draw.

As for street smarts, I tend to be pretty observant and could probably pick up a societal behaviour pattern relatively fast but once again ... sock drawer-ocean-safe-barrel-safe.

Summary: I put Considerably above average, cause I don't count the lack of will to use intelligence a dumb move, just a lazy one.

Smarter then some, not as smart as others, theres always going to be people out there who are more intelligent then me so its hard to compare myself to everyone I may meet over my lifetime making it hard to judge on average.

Also many people on this forum have overinflated ego's.

I don't think that a lot of people seriously consider themselves "dumb".

I mean, is there anything more universally satisfactory than feeling intellectually superior?
Knowing that your achievements in life haven't been because of rich parents, your pretty face, or just plain luck, but because of your own smart decisions...
Or if your life isn't going too well, and all the people you know, or the people you see on the streets, are generally better off than you are. Wouldn't it be nice to know that atleast you're smarter than they are?

The concept of feeling smarter than everyone else seems so appealing, that I wouldn't be surprised if, oh say about 83,4% of the people in escapist would've tricked themselves into doing it.. :p

I like to think I am pretty smart compared to most people. IQ tests and whatnot have put me higher than most people in my school.

Academically I'm pretty good, except at math. But when it comes to actual intelligence, I think I'm "smarter" then almost every kid at my school, as elitist as that sounds.

Oh wow what a surprise the self aggrandizing gaming masses claim they're smarter than the average.

It's almost humourous in the how smug it is.

I'd say I'm fairly average, in my school anyway. But my school has a reputaion of being slightly above the national grade average. I put myself as average because I'm not super smart, but smart emough to get decent grades.

Wait, I think I clicked the wrong button, I meant to say considerably below average. Too think to get it right, I guess.

I know... I'll go back and vote twice for the right thing. Should cancel out my mistake.

EDIT: damn, it won't let me change the vote... Oh, well.

Compared to the people in my school im Albert Einstine, im one of the few to rank above avarage on my grade on everything except one class (LA since im a right minded person (literaly)).

Compared to the world I'd however consider myself a bit above avarage.
Compared to my school, Albert Einstein, no doubt. I handed in a perfect assignment few days ago (computer programming), my teacher got very impressed. Not one of my classmates asked me how I did it or what they need to improve, they just kept bitching about their own grade and why is should be higher. Most of them either just did half of the task, did it completely wrong, or did the part that was easy and left the rest.

Compared to the rest of the world, I don't know, average or maybe above. Loads of smart people out there, but I feel like they are a minority in these modern days. Compared to the people at my age group in general (some or most of them are drunken party goers), I'm above average I think.

This is just all from personal experience, unless someone maps how smart everyone is, it is hard to say for sure. And being smart as a lot of factors, social, theoretical and so on.

I think it's fair to say that when some people argue, they might be convinced they are right because they are not clever enough to realise how their own argument had flaws, which gives a them a false sense of their own intelligence. Intelligence can also vary by subject - brilliant scientists can be awful at interpreting literature or history and vice versa. Finally, also consider that the sorts of people who use the internet heavily and debate on forums may be a section of the community who tend to be more intelligent and better educated. In essence, these forums may be unrepresentative of the general population tending towards the more intelligent, and the skewed poll results may be realistic.

I don't think there's anything wrong or necessarily egotistic about someone believing they are considerably more intelligent than others if they have good reason to do so (such as a child who is a top performer in their school). Surely though, if such a person goes around boasting about it, assuming they are cleverer than others and assuming they are right in points of contention just because of their intelligence, it makes them an irritating, arrogant sod.

IQ wise I'm verging on mensa so I think that qualifies me for the position of considerably above average... technically speaking.
