Unfortunately, I cannot vote, for although I know I am more intelligent than most of the people at my school (perhaps even in this area) I do live in AWWWW-Straulia. I'm comparing myself to Eshays, so...

Compare to the geniuses of the world, I might as well be impaired. But compared to most of the peers around my school, i'm like Einstein multiplied twice.

If anyone cares, me and my peers took a test called the, "Gates Macginitie" which helps determine how well your vocabluary and comprehension is, for those of you who don't know. In the end, I ended up scoring at Post-High School. I'm in the 7th grade.

So if anything, I'm good at literal arts!

I tend to get new concepts quickly, however in school im below average not becuase of stupidity but becuase of a lack of intrest .school has to do more with much time you spend on it then how smart you are.

I haven't seen any results yet, but I am going to make an educated guess. A much larger proportion of people voted above average than average or below average. This shows how egotistic and self indulging you are. Maybe its true, maybe it just happened that an intelligent amount of people saw and viewed this. Maybe the viewers of this website are above average intelligence. This is very unlikely, as most of you would fail a retard internet test. So what do YOU O Intelligent One, think of this? Because you matter so much I would adore your input.
Holy fuck, even the OP is a flame.

I'm staying the hell away from this thread. :D

I don't think I'm the most intelligent man on earth. I don't even compare myself to others.

Even if I called myself smart, someone would question me about something I don't know. I don't call myself an idiot. To me, idiot means not knowing something and not wanting to learn it. Like all human beings, I call myself "ignorant at a certain point".

I'm going off an IQ measurment here, is that such a bad thing?

134 is well above average.
IQ is also pure, unadulterated bullshit on a stick and proves absolutely nothing...other than the truism, "the people who spout their IQs are most likely to be a lot dumber than the number would have you believe."
Read Mensa's entrance requirements.

In fact the same goes for everyone in this thread.

Well, I don't know about the others on here, but I at least get very good grades (both back in school and now in the university). So I'm either above average in terms of intelligence or at least in terms of solving exams.
I'm not one of the guys going around saying "stupid people shouldn't vote" or "dumb folks should be prohibited from procreating", though.
Those are probably the people you are trying to spite here.
And honestly, I agree with you on that (even though I don't agree with the phrasing of your OP).
I think they're despicable and spout unreflected nonsense.

A poll like this doesn't really work, because people who are really dumb are too dumb to realize it. :)

Do you realise the average person is saying above average? Doesn't that kinda defeat the point off average. It means if you chose average then your below average.

*EDIT* Has anyone else noticed that the percentages on the poll add up to %99.9? I suppose my teacher was right when he said decimal points are crap. 1 divided by 3 = 0.333, 0.333 times 3 = 0.999

Well, considering that many of the Escapist's here are collage or university students, as well as of a nerdy disposition, i would say that most people on the Escapist are on average more intelligent than the general mass of the population. Many of the people on this board would also have an interest in debating political, philosophical, social, moral or scientific issues, judging by the content of this board, debating in turn increases general knowledge and exercises mental faculties. Put simply, most of the people on this board are more "intelligent" than the general population.

As a side point, IQ is a load of rubbish! Well, IQ tests do have their uses but highly limited uses. Put simply, you can not quantify mental ability. You can not measure a person's creativity, imagination or wisdom in the same way that you can not measure someones "intelligence". IQ tests attempt to cover the broad range of what "intelligence" is, but falls far short. IQ tests cover mainly logic skills and problem solving skills, and to a limited degree language and observational skills. It ignores however a person's kinesetic ability, that is, their practical skills with their hands, nor does it measure a person's creative skills, nor does it measure inter-personal skills, nor does it measure verbal or written communication skills, nor does it measure a person's intra-personal skills. (put simply, their ability to reflect on themselves.

People like Einstein where intelligent yes, but only highly intelligent in the realm's of logic and numbers. If you asked Einstein to compose a piece of music, write a novel or carve a statue from stone, his ability in those feilds would be very mediocre. Similarly Mozart was very intelligent at creating music, however he doubt he would have much luck with painting a picture or perhaps figure out the theory of relativity. People are intelligent at different thing's, the failure of IQ tests are that they attempt to lump all these separate mental faculties together as one.

I most often have ideas about someone or a situation that prove to be quite the contrary, but sometimes I manage to say something insightful so I guess I'm not dumb, Juust a perception that needs tweaking

At the risk of sounding extremely arrogant, I'm significantly smarter than the average person. My IQ was tested when I was 5 years old, with the result being 155. (According to this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:IQ_curve.svg], it's literally off the scale.) I've spent almost all of my free time in secondary school AND Uni mucking about on the computer, barely studying at all, and still passing almost everything. (Maybe not with flying colours, I could probably get stunning grades if I put my mind to it, but if I can slack off until two days before the exam and STILL get a good passing grade (6 or 7 out of 10), why bother?)
