I don't think we need permission, but I do think the option to choose to listen to his speaches or not would be a good one.

No Matter what Party a President is From, He is the Leader of your nation, and Deserves your respect and loyalty.

Weather you agree with his Ideology is Irrelevant, It is a the Job of the Ruler, be he President, Prime Minister, or Emperor, to Bolster the Morale of the Nation.

In other words, it should not be Just ones Option for Everyone to watch, But It Should also be one's responsibility to Show support to the Man who works night and day for the betterment of his nation.

No, because I always had to watch Bush's speeches in school without the option not to. Why should it be any different now? Just because there's a Democrat in office? That's ridiculous and a total double-standard. It's the president speaking, which anyone should be allowed to watch regardless of whether they agree with what he's saying.
im confused, did bush ever do that? i dont recall ever having any choice to listen to him. i think that people should have the option to listen or not but if they do they shouldnt need a form, likewise they shouldnt need one to opt out. it just seems like a lot of unnecessary rumpus to raise over such a mundane topic..... and yes i just wanted to use "rumpus"
At my middle school, we had to watch some of Bush's speeches as part of the morning announcement. There was no choice in it.
were they speeches specifically for school kids or was it speeches about politics? regardless you should have a choice

Huh, weird. I live in Michigan too, senior year, and not only have they not mentioned it in school, but I haven't been seeing it on the news either. Only online have I actually seen this story. Hell, in my school they haven't even mentioned that the president is going to speak, let alone that we need permission...But regardless, yes it's flat out ridiculous that a high school student should be forced to have permission for this kind of thing. Most of the students in my school had better reasoning for liking a certain president than a lot of adults that I've overheard so I don't see why we would need to worry about being brainwashed..Nonetheless, people are nuts, nothing you can do about it.

All that stupid speech was, was a "pep talk", the same kind of shit that mine, and I'm pretty sure everyone else's parents have said billions of times before. You know, "You have to keep your grades up, or you won't get a job!" talk.
Although, the whole thing he said about "If you drop out of school, your failing your country" was a little overboard, it was a stupid speech.

If your kids get scared into making better grades because of the man's speech, good. If not, then what is there to lose, really?

To quote Boots Riley: "It's three o'clock, time to get out of school and think!"

More and more I'm finding that the American Public Educational system is desined to only serve the desires of the local governments an not to actually teach kids things.

These are probably the same people that compare Obama to Hitler and bring assault rifles to townn hall meetings. I say fuck the lot of them, a parent shouldn't push their political agenda or beliefs on their children.

At my school, the senior class students were going to watch Obama's speech he made on Wensday. But a bunch of crazy parents complained, saying its propoganda and is brainwashing the children. So instead of dealing with them, they made a permission slip that is needed to be signed in order to watch it. These are 17-19 year old people that need to get mommy's permission to hear our leader talk. This is really pathetic to me. We never needed permission to listen to Bush's idiotic rants

EDIT: I live in Michigan
Why were you watching the president in school anyway? That's strange. I know he's the president but my school never showed anyone speaking in class. The only time the news was on in school was 9/11.

My school just gave kids the option to skip it. Anyways, that is just bullshit. A senoir has the rightd to choose what he does.
Technically until your 18 you dont have the right to do anything without your parents consent, so get over it.

The schools were just covering thier butts, it's lame that they would have to do something like that to keep form getting sued and such. I guess its just the world we live in today

I'm just waiting for some one to say yes and to see there reason on why they should, I've got bets on that person being best described as Batshit Bonkers.
You Win just for using the phrase batshit bonkers.

But it should really be the students choice.

Well, if you consider that most senoirs should be 18, then they have that right.
still, while your at school your in the care of the school, if one of your crazy parents decides that the school is trying to brainwash you because they "forced" you to watch the speech it could cause them to get sued. So again I say if you were in the same position as the school's you would have done the same thing. So... get over it

Edit: im not stating I agree with the position of the parents, technically obama(and all presidential speeches) are government or history qualified curriculum adn will be taught form text books one day. I just think getting all bent out of shape over a permission slip is kind of lame.

As in the normal hypocrisy of American politics people saw another person trying to change they're beliefs as evil. It is a double standard and it is incredibly stupid. The overprotectiveness is insane with parents these days. But at the same time people shouldn't be zombies to whatever a leader or person says. Blindly following is just an end to civilization and freedoms as written in the book 1984. So as closing arguments I will say that they shouldn't be needing a permission slip, but I will also say that they should be told to actually think about what he is saying and not just blindly follow Obamas every order. It should be the same for every president republican or democrat.

Schools had the speech before hand and some still refused to show it. All Obama said was stay in school and try your hardest. Im pretty sure GH Bush said the exact same thing in 1991.

How dare the president tell my children to stay in school! He has no right to encourage my children to strive for their goals! I should complain about this!

I believe one was directed toward school kids and the rest were about politics, but I'm not positive.

This is ridiculous. When I was in high school, they played the GWB's speeches throughout the classrooms. Regardless if we turned off the TV monitor or turned down the volume, we didn't have to sign a permission slip. But racism is very prevalent. Not to say that it's a black or white thing, but it is. Close-mindedness is simply a pity. I bet you if McCain was in office, you guys wouldn't have to sign a permission slip.

And all the idiots that keep calling Pres. Obama a socialist or a nazi, probably need to go back to history class. A lot of people have misconstrued views and assume 1+1=yellow. Last time I checked, I still have freedom and democracy. Oh I'm sorry, because America's now run as if we were the USSR back in 1922. /sarcasm

Man, people need to take their heads out of the asses and grow up.
