Its almost certain that there will be multiple endings for Shepard/the universe, and given that "heroic sacrifice" and "reapers kill everyone" are both very likely scenarios, I'd say yeah, its possible you'll get your wish.

However, it probably won't happen unless you deliberately don't do certain missions, like how in ME2, Shepard couldn't actually get the worst ending and die unless the player was really trying to kill him.

So, have fun experiencing half the content so you can kill your Shepard.
I'm hoping that the possibility of dying at the end remains open as an unforseen consequence of some decision or another, just to keep us guessing. I got pretty much all the upgrades in ME2 because I knew they would be important for keeping my team alive, and it was probably deliberate that Shepard was so unlikely to die in that game since there was still another coming. Since this is the end of Shepard's story, however, it would be nice if there was more to it than that.

If you read the 3 mass effect novels from Drew Karpyshyn, you'll see it's REALLY EASY to mention things from the original duo of games(at this point anyways) such as sheppard, the council, without even breaking your perception of the world's development from your own player perspective.

Plus if they release more games, surely it'll be MMO based, or prior to the current events. I'd rather play the rise of Aria on Omega, or the first contact wars after earth's first discovery of the mass effect relay next to IO rather than have a bland continuity.

More gameplay with Anderson!

I just want the Reapers to do some shit this time, I mean they play them up as the destroyers of universes with stories but in game they are the only villain less capable then Dick Dastardly, if they can be beaten by random schizophrenic pretty-boy with assault rifle then how the hell did they survive this long.

Seriously now give the Reapers some teeth.

It´s almost impossible that in a deep Action RPG with so many choices and dilemas the option to kill Shepard isn´t at the hands of the player. Most Likely scenario in my opinion? Ultimate sacrifice or Renegade "you go instead", and probably with an option of a Paragorn/Renegade ending with no deads if the Player does everything right.

While it seems the most likely scenario, imagine the amount of nerd rage if some people played through the first two games and got the worst ending (unlikely I know, but still possible).

Only if it's fucking epic, that's all I'm saying. I mean properly epic, not the kind of "epic" that gets thrown around nowadays.

Shepard is already dead.

If you add up the number of times Shepard has made it to the end of ME2 ... and compare it to the number of times Shepard suffered "CRITICAL MISSION FAILURE" ..

It's quite obvious that success is the anomaly.

You're sitting in the captains quaters, on the eve of battle with the Reapers when you see Morrigan enter... oh wait wrong game.

Anyway, as long as it wasnt shoehorned in, and was an end befitting of Shephard then sure.
But tbh i wouldnt actually mind if they tried to put Shephard into the other games somehow...

Hey, I didn't scan all those fucking planets just to get killed off :D.

But seriously, I wouldn't care. I liked most of the companions, as in alot (Legion ftw), but I don't give a crap about Shepard. Actually, let me play as Legion in the next installment!

Well, like with Dragon Age II, you could still import your save - even though future games in the ME universe would have a different protagonist, you'd be bringing the "state of the universe" with you.

And with no imported save, you could just let the default Shepard appear if necessary. He's in all the trailers - it's not hard to imagine a cameo appearance in a spin-off game.

Shepard could've died in ME2 and the PC for ME3 would be someone else. Just as there are many permutations of story elements up to ME3, there'll be many more up until the end of ME3 itself, including whether or not Shepard, or anyone on his crew lives or not.

I think it may even be possible, for example, to complete ME2 with almost all crew apart from Shepard dead. I hope the choices remain open right up to the trilogy's end. It is fun to replay with a different set of choices and a different Shepard. Doing missions in different sequence, different gender, different love interest, different class/skill specs, paragon/renegade with different choices made for Noveria, Feros, The Citadel, Virmire, Ilos in ME1 and in ME2 the various choices made to resolve various character quests and those on Illium, Tuchanka and Omega...there are hundreds, if not thousands of permutations which really make it interesting to replay and see what happens differently.

I want Olaf Shepard to be able to die in ME3, but I want his death to be avoidable. Maybe the final mission can always be completed regardless of your Shepard, but you'll always die in the end, with varying degrees of nobility, unless you've gone and done a massive OCD playthrough of all three games.

I want him to retire or go on vacation... he's earned it after-all. Either that or he'll set up an academy - a starting point in future Mass Effect games where the player is trained by Shepard.

But... but... that would make Liara sad. That would never do.

...

Ok, in all seriousness, I can see the appeal. A heroic sacrifice to save an entire galaxy from immeasurably ancient eldritch horrors? Yeah... I'd buy that. It makes for a decent narrative, if somewhat cliche.

Then again, I'm a sucker for a happy ending, narrative be damned. I want my Shepard to retire to a resort planet, raise some little blue children and share a drink with Wrex on the weekends.

Well, as was the case with 2, I'm sure Shepherd will be able to die at the end if you want
