Marketing. At least in its current form.

The world needs people being paid to manipulate consumers with biased information like a democracy need vote riggers. If they'd all work on a (forced) "most objective and neutral" criteria for description, then it'd be fine to spread the word wide and far, but the current breed is about as objective and informative as a North Korean propaganda video. Which is probably where they had their internship during their studies of communication.

No politicians?

That might sound good for all the childish, angst filled, rage against the machine/man, adolescence types out there, but seriously?

We should be adding more viable professions, for more jobs, to employ those who are out of work, not take them away!

I know you all hate government, but grow up, it kinda has a reason for being.... but I don't expect those who have made up there mind on the matter to realize that.

It's okay tho, I can see why you hate politicians, maybe go out and become involved with the voting process, you might change what you think is going on in the world of government.
But if we include dictators and every other form of political representative or leader than we have communism ... the good kind. Because by removing all of the politicians (in every sense of the word) then all we are left with is a completely free society where no-one has power over anyone else (as that would make them a leader and therefore fall under my obscenely braod, umbrella-term of 'politician'.

I would eliminate psychologists. It is my personel oppinion that they offer little help to their patients, most of whom probably could sort themselves out with a small amount of introspection, and can offer no aid except medication to the truly insane.
Just a quick correction. Psychologist don't generally prescribe, that's psychiatrists you're thinking of.

And I agree that in a more caring society where friends actually listened and cared psychologists wouldn't be necessary. Unfortunately that's not society. Tell your friend you have erectile disfunction and its not responding to medication and you're lining yourself up for jokes for the next 10 years.

I don't know why, I just don't like people who consider dancing serious.

So, dancers.
Not even erotic ones? I mean seriously dancing upside down on a pole with no clothes on strikes me as a worthwhile profession ;)

It is a tie between these two jobs:

I am not sure what the name for the person who performs the procedure is, but this job:

And Child Pimps.

People who prostitute children.

Those two jobs take the cake for me.

To be fair, I left the prostitution profession alone, and if getting rid of strippers means getting rid of all the prancing in the world. Deal.

Also, you posted this three times. I was like "Woah, three quotes from one post, aren't I popular?!"

I really don't think any of these professions need to be removed, except maybe marketting. But then how else would you find out about the product I guess, new businesses wouldn't be able to get their items known - hell, I found the escapist through a banner add.

If I had to get rid of one profession I think human trafficking would be it.

The people who work in call centres seem to have a pretty awful job and they never manage to help anyway. They have to deal with so much abuse as well, it just seems like a thankless and unnecessary job. I wouldn't do away with any of the professions listed in the poll too lightheartedly, because they'd have significant impacts on our society and I think in some cases such as removing politicians, the whole goddamn world might just come crashing down.

Well prostitution is obviously the worst most unnecessary "profession" listed there which has no place in contemporary society so that should be removed.

Politicians. Should be funny to see how the world crumbles without anyone to lead the masses. Well funny up till the point it affects me of course.

And that is three things I have seen on The Escapist forums today that have left me utterly cowed with shock and disbelief. That might be a new record for me.

I voted other.

Anybody whos profession is linked to the paranormal ('ghost hunters', 'mediums', 'fortune tellers', etc) deserves to be out of a job for spouting such horse shit.
