To be honest the only time I've cried since I was about 10 years old was due to extreme pain. I do view it as weak I suppose, as it shows that you can't control your emotions.

Crying is a way the body naturally relieves stress. Its why having a good cry can make you feel good. If you cry, you have less of a chance to get depression or other stress related disorders.
Plus, it takes a real man to cry. It shows hes not afraid of ridicule

Only alone or with your partner. And if you're a guy don't overdo it. A full grown man sobbing just isn't sexy.

Tearful women, kinda are, which worries me.

It's fine to cry, but it's wrong to act emotional on purpose just to get people to feel sorry for you (like democrats)

Only emotional pansies worry about how crying is going to make them look. Maybe some people would have less built-up stress if they'd been able to release those negative emotions when they were growing up, only they didn't because they were emotionally crippled by fear and peer pressure.

This has less to do with crying/not crying and more to do with this attitude you mentioned which seems based around not showing any emotional vulnerability. That's a load of crap and such a philosophy will absolutely cause negative health problems down the road, such as higher blood pressure, high stress levels and stomach-related illnesses.

If you can feel emotion (which I would guess would be 90-100% of people here), you can feel both good and bad. If you're able to get over the bad before it gets to you - brilliant! But if you aren't, you either repress it, or express it.

Expressing it can either be by crying, or let's say, for example, violence. So you've a choice between crying in private, alone, where no one will ever know if you choose not to tell them, or hitting someone.

crying equates to weakness and only young children can get away with it
Bullshit. I think if you are someone who says this to someone who is crying, it says a lot more about your own insecurities then those of the person crying.

It is healthy to release emotions, i'm just not sure making a huge scene in public is the best idea i usually tendto release my emotions at home or if somewhere quiet if i'm in public.

Crying over something that isn't life threatening, has already taken a life, or horribly disturbing is okay. If it isn't, than it is a sign of being a pansy. I can't stand people who cry over everything and anything. That IS for children.

well, thanks to some jacked up scar tissue, I can barely cry anymore, brother shot me in the eye with a bb gun when I was in the 7th grade, for the longest time I was actually incapable of crying, now I can... but only slightly, and it burns like hell. luckily for me, I don't cry all that often or this'd really suck.

on topic though, yes, it's fine to cry, as long as you aren't crying about something trivial. there's nothing wrong with showing emotion, but I'd rather be pissed than mopey any day.

What made this thread come to mind was that I've just gotten off meds that basically stripped all emotion. Cured the depression by evoking complete and total apathy. Now I'm off them, it's like being assaulted with the "feelings" stick. And I never was very good at handling emotions, especially when they made me vulnerable.

Plus being the only girl surrounded by a sea of males, characterized by one friend as "a bunch of idiots" (this same friend described himself as extremely narcissistic) it's kinda hard to have any sort of yardstick to measure it by :S

It's fine to do every once in a while when a big event happens like a relative dying or what not. But if you use crying to manipulate others then that gives you a punch in the face.
QFT.

So many tramps get away with it.

They're usually in the wrong.

URG!

Anyway, crying is a very personal thing to do. If you keep it in that idea, it's okay no matter what it's about.
