So I've been watching Starship troopers and just kept thinking how much they remind me of the Imperial guard form warhammer 40k. Anyways escapist lets say from some contrived reason you either have to sign up for the Mobile infantry or the Imperial guard. So what would choose? Fighting the horrors of warped universe with nothing more than a T-shirt and sad rifle, or simply fight hoards of space bugs with pretty much the same.

EDIT: Just for the hell of it We going to go off the movie MI not the book. I haven't read the book but will and I just frankly don't want to argue which is better because I simply wouldn't know yet. But Right now I still think its a good movie fun and cheesy.

Depends.

Which is cooler? The Imperial Guard. Simply because they exist in the WH40K universe.

Which would I rather join? The Starship Troopers, because I'd actually have a chance to survive. When the shit hits the fan, billions of Imperial Guard can and will be sacrificed to ensure victory.

Guard. Guard is infinitely more awesome and for the record.

READ THE MOTHER FUCKING BOOK! YOu will come to loathe the movie after you do; and its a very good book all the same.

Plus actual MI is NOTHING like the flak armor wearing ninnies in the movie.

I won't rend the pleasure of enlightenment from you by describing the differences so for the love of the god-Emperor; GO GET THE BOOK!

Edit: This is me resisting the urge to explain why your knowledge of the mobile infantry is wrong.

Edit: Still resisting but since i posted i have an ad to join the Marine corp on my escapist ad box. Anyone else?
Listen to this man! He speaks truth!

The Mobile Infantry are the halfway point between Imperial Guard and Space Marines. One Mobile Infantryman scout can kill 10,000 Bugs all by himself! Imperial Guard works in the opposite direction!

That being said, I would still join the Guard just for the tanks.

However, my choice is to be a Fire Warrior.

the imperial guard they have the stones to stand up to and fight the nastiest crap in the WH40K universe where the MI get routed by some shity bugs but i like the spaceships in the first starship troopers film

and off topic for a bit the starship troopers film and book are incredibly polarizing people who like the film tend to hate the book and vice versa mostly because the film is a satire of the book and has the opposite point of view where the book is war is glorious the film is war is hell

Well, despite claims to the contrary, Imperial Guard are actually very adept at mechanized warfare, and they do more than just clog up enemy tanks with corpses.

Against film Mobile Infantry? IG will decimate them with Basalisk fire.

Against BOOK Mobile Infantry? Well, you have ten thousand men fighting against an eight foot tall Gorilla shaped exoskeleton that has a portable nuke launcher designed to destroy entire cities in commando raids.

Put simply, the MI in the movies were an example of impguard conscripts: shitty training, crappy gear, gross stupidity from numerous individuals...

Go with the guard. At least in accordance with the fluff you've a reasonable chance of being given enough training to be competent in your job, and while people play up on the expendability of the individual guardsman, just looking at the fluff, your common trooper isn't really all that expendable except when he would die even with all effort being put into his survival. With space marines, super aliens and doomsday monsters from outer space and beyond, being a standard human kinda sucks, but at the very least you wanna be able to shoot straight.

Also, read the goddamn book. You'll be doing yourself a favor; in the original work, MI were all wearing power armor with jump packs, and most had either HE or nuclear rocket racks on their backpacks. Space marines are one thing, but these guys are slamming some serious ordnance around, and get shot out of spaceships in single man orbital reentry bullets. 40k still hasn't quite reached that level of insane in some ways.

Imperial Guard without a doubt. They may not care much for human life but they don't waste men for no real reason (unless I am their commander :p). Which means if you die, you have a chance to die like the biggest fucking man in the universe. If you do it right. Well, if you make at least Commissar first.

Seems to be alot of love for Imperial Guard and I can't tell if it's an underdog thing or people identifying alot better with those cowardly piss ants.

Well if I wanted an effective army then Starship Troopers is my pick.

Voted mobile infantry before I saw the edit in the OP... I guess that means I have to come the other way on this one. I haven't seen the movies, so all I know of the mobile infantry is jump-jetting, nuke-slinging, power-armored badasses.

Also if you join the Imperial Guard there is a chance you get to be something a touch less dangerous (as far as "less dangerous" goes in 40k) like artillery or possibly a sniper etc etc. I've read the Starship Troopers book and it really didn't have that much to do with war. War was more just a frame to convey an anti communist agenda on and American patriotism.
