you do understand why they did this? It would be like if console gamers could gain experience through private matches. If you can alter the settings of a match then you have an unfair advantage and it makes boosting so easy. not to say you will boost, but i think after the crapton of "MW2 isn't balanced" claims, It seems like they are trying to appeal to every audience and every opinion. They are screwed no matter what they do because SOMEONE will not like the choice they make. This just seems like something very insignificant to boycott a game for. If you want to play with friends on a dedicated server, you can, but you have to use matchmaking to level up. That seems fair to me. If you enjoy the MW series enough to want to buy it then just buy it and enjoy it. You aren't going to like everything about the game and as soon as you accept that you will probably enjoy the game alot more by reducing your expectations from "this game needs to have everything i want" to "There are things i like and things i don't like, but i'll just focus on the positives of this game and enjoy it for what it is." I'm not trying to be insulting or condescending, it's just if you always expect a game to have everything you want, it can never live up to it and you will be disappointed with every game you play. That's just my opinion though so take it for what it is. Holy crap that went way longer than i wanted... sorry lolTechno Squidgy said:Today I discovered that the dedicated servers promised to PC gamers for MW3 have not been what everyone expected. Dedicated servers will be unranked only. This means that if you wish to level up and make any kind of progress you have to use IWNet, the matchmaking service introduced in MW2.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
The reason most of us wanted Dedicated servers is so that we can enjoy the game with a regular group of people, in a low ping environment, with the settings how we like them. While it's true that you can still do this, it's a moot point because you make NO PROGRESS while doing this. I don't want to have to play with a bunch of random people I don't know, across someone's inevitably terrible broadband connection, with no admins, just so I can level up.
So PC gamers, I ask you, Will you be getting MW3 in light of this news?
I for one, will be cancelling my pre-order if this doesn't change.
I take it you don't play PC games then.Athinira said:It was never a good idea to begin with, and time has not sweetened it.bit_crusherrr said:You say that like it hasn't happened in previous games.Athinira said:There is no way that Infinity Ward can allow dedicated servers run by players to be ranked.

Fixed.DrStupid87 said:I can avoid hackers and very angry elementary school kids a hell of a lot more on the PC.

You realise that black ops has player run dedicated servers right and it works just fine? And just the same as the consoles private matches do not count towards your XP or rank up in any way. Only proper game modes do with the min required amount of people for them to start.Athinira said:Are you f*cking kidding us?Techno Squidgy said:Today I discovered that the dedicated servers promised to PC gamers for MW3 have not been what everyone expected. There is no way that Infinity Ward can allow dedicated servers run by players to be ranked.
Dedicated servers exist to provide fun and entertainment for people who want to play the game that way. Dedicated servers can allow special rules and mods to run, meaning that the rules of the game changes (similar to all of the popular mods that exists for Counter-Strike, like the Warcraft 3 TFT Hero mod), and it also means that things like dealing with cheaters is out of IW's hands. Did you seriously, and in all honesty, expect that to be ranked?
It's not unacceptable. In fact, not only is it perfectly acceptable, it's the only logical way to do this as long as they insist on having that particular ranking system in the game.
haha i know, it's not just and "issue" it's an "UNACCEPTABLE issue" haha omg i love my xbox.Radoh said:So.... a successful game did something that ultimately remained unchallenged except for a few whiny people, and they are doing the same thing for the sequel?
Hilarious.
Yes I will buy and yes I will be doing the same thing I did with MW2 i.e. play for over one hundred hours and not even notice the "issue" you are bringing up.
So then play on official servers.latiasracer said:Quite the Opposite, Good sir. I Guess im the crazy one then, I Muched prefered MW2's way of multiplayer games to black op's Dedicated server layout. There was the cheater problem, BUt i only actually got affected by that once and it wasn't to hard to reverse. Guess it's just me who's happy with this xD
Em they worked fine in BO just under constraints which is a compromise. CoD BO work fine, CoD 4 worked fine, CoD WaW stat abuse and that was then patched out. Also there are no real leaderboards on the PC and people can cheat with matchmaking so it is not like it makes a flying fuck in that respect. Even at that they can do a BC 2 style thing as well.Warrior Irme said:You realize you can level up, get your unlocks, then never touch matchmaking again. If they made the dedicated servers ranked there would tons of complaining about people gaming leaderboards, and cheating to get unlocks, and all that garbage. Their decision of giving dedicated servers, but not making them ranked is what you call a compromise, which seems unpopular to most.
So some people want a solid game experience both ranked and unranked and they don't want people to have a distinct advantage and play in a shitty high ping environment and that makes them whiney?Radoh said:So.... a successful game did something that ultimately remained unchallenged except for a few whiny people, and they are doing the same thing for the sequel?

Yes because there is no such thing as servers with map rotations and hundreds of other servers that have normal rotations aside from Nuketown/Arica Harbour/Caretan. No they don't exist. Seriously though there is a Dedicated server for everyone no one is forcing you to go on a 24/7 and no one ever will.latiasracer said:Eherm, I Think this is Great. So you should not complain about something about a game on a gaming forum where we are supposed to discuss what happens in games? I thought this was the whole point of sites on the Escapist. Especially when it is something like Dedicated Servers on PC which are supposed to be a standard thing like well actually I can't think of any exclusive standard worthwhile features on consoles but I'm sure there is something. No I don't mean to be elitist by this I am genuinely drawing a blank. If I come up with something I will put in an edit.anthony87 said:Don't be confused.Capitano Segnaposto said:Good for you. Why did you make a post about this? Just to say that you aren't getting it? I am confused.
You see it has apparently become the norm on this site for every whiney person and their whiney dog to create a thread whenever they see or hear something they don't like regarding a game, usually ending with a declaration of them not buying said game.
They continue to do this even though nobody cares.
You'll get used it it.
Wow a picture that represents less than ~.02% of the people that went to boycott the game from a group that represents ~.55% of the boycott. Yes that must mean that the other ~99.45% of the people also bought and played the game. Also 9/10 cats prefer Whiskas.Kakulukia said:Yeah... I'm sure that boycott will be very successful... as much as the other ones.

No, no it hasn't. CoD 4, BO and BC 2 among others run this system fine and WaW does now aaw well. This was only a problem in WaW and was patched out of the game. This was only a problem on consoles especially since PC games do not even have lobbies and this crap to begin with. Well usually they don't.Awexsome said:This seems like a fine idea. Like someone said above you don't get XP through private matches on the 360 or PS3.
I know one of the biggest exploits/mods for CoD has been insta-leveling lobbies. It won't stop cheating completely, nothing will, but this seems like a good way to let people have the dedicated servers and all the benfits that come with them while reducing the possible exploitation that they can bring to a system like CoD's as well.
