I'll just keep playing hat fortress since the last good CoD was CoD 4 and it looks like this game won't be changing shit.

To be honest I wasn't a huge fan of dedicated servers on PC for Black Ops. Way too many stupid servers with just an insane amount of random rules that could give you a migraine if you are a person who quick matches. Also, hopefully with this change the PC version will get a legit version of high roller, seriously wager matches for like $1,000 (in game money) was just a huge joke and a waste of time.
Also this alleviates the absolute bullshit that was the problem with having to completely exit a game to change and or upgrade your loadout. Also some perks like getting pro-marathon were an insane pain in the ass with blackops because with automatic level transferring without a lobby the first people to load into the map got the first blood, pretty much screwing over anyone who had a slightly slower load time.

This sounds perfectly reasonable.
Stops you from influencing statistics by only playing people you know youre better than.

Really? Has it got you that worked up? You must be very easy to annoy then. Loads of games have done this, and you know how much difference it has made to the experience? Here's a hint - none.

Wait, so the bullshit prestige system will not be applicable for real matches? Everyone's on an equal footing straight away?

FUCK YEAH

Not having Dedicated* servers saved me $60 on #2 and it looks like it will save me another $60 this time.

I would like to exclaim that had I had any intention of purchasing MW3... even on the PC... This would have not factored into my decision!

Yawn... Ooh a piece of candy!

It HAS dedicated servers. It's just your progress in them cant be seen on the leaderboard. This wasn't even a long article you could miss information out, it was two paragraphs clearly explaining what is not, and what is going to be in the game.

OT: This seems fine to me. Dedicated servers are pretty good, but they are not a good thing to go on if you want a fair, not crazy game you can rank up and progress in. But sometimes, dedicated servers can be hell, you can go onto a modded server accidently that hacks your game. A lot of them you have to download another 40 sound bites before you can even play. I think lag is a fair tradeoff.

It's not that Dedi servers are perfect, it's just that IWNet is that much less perfect. See, when i bought MW2, I was like, how bad can it be? I didn't really care about Dedicated servers, i'm not a clan anyways, so might as well leave them out, right? Wrong. I have never had open NAT, even afetr reinstalling the game completely, hacking was easier then ever, connection was slower then ever. I would buy MW3 if they were to fix all this. Just give us back the dedicated servers. but they don't, so they can save money having to redevlop the software from CoD 4 for a different engine. It's because IW are lazy and cheap, and they hate us, the PC gamers. Fuck you, IW.

You are correct, and I have clarified.

I was fully willing to buy the game and encourage my clan to do the same.
However, I choose not to support IWNet as a matchmaking service.

Not buying this shitbox game to begin with, though that is a bummer. No shocker that IW completely drops the ball again...

I think it's a good thing, in fact I wish EA would do the same with BF 3 across all platforms. It would be easier all around earning my unlocks on the unwashed masses and bringing them to a dedicated server afterward anyway, not to mention easier since I wouldn't have to wait for friends to be online to play.

GUYS this whole thing is NOT true. Robert Bowling treated that the only people who can stop you unlocking stuff in dedicated servers are admins. ONLY admins can control what people unlock. OP is now officially wrong.

In fact, I might just be marching up to Gamestation during the midnight launch.

I'll probably be getting in queue, joining in with the hype, striding into the store, picking up a copy of CoD 4 pre-owned & Modern Warfare 2 pre-owned. Then I'll be walking back out to the queue-ees cheering; slamming my newly acquired MW2 into the ground and grinding it in with my foot, waving my CoD 4 in the air with its pre-owned sticker still on it and burning the notes that make up the price of a freshly released Modern Warfare 3 (which will probably cost me my whole student loan).

That's how much of a waste of money I think MW3 is. I would find more enjoyment from that than spending the money on a shitty remake.

Skyrim, Saints Row, Halo & BF3 ftw!

Ho man, I guess everybody is going to boycott their upcoming release. Again.
Except once everyone has bawwwed their eyes out on the internet, they will all still buy it. Again.

I'm not too interested in competitive multiplayer, so this news and CoD in general elicit from me a big Meh. I like the campaigns of CoD, but I don't really feel like paying $60 for half of the game.

Really wish they would make a co-op focused title and take a year off from team deathmatch.

Today I discovered that the dedicated servers promised to PC gamers for MW3 have not been what everyone expected. Dedicated servers will be unranked only. This means that if you wish to level up and make any kind of progress you have to use IWNet, the matchmaking service introduced in MW2.

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

The reason most of us wanted Dedicated servers is so that we can enjoy the game with a regular group of people, in a low ping environment, with the settings how we like them. While it's true that you can still do this, it's a moot point because you make NO PROGRESS while doing this. I don't want to have to play with a bunch of random people I don't know, across someone's inevitably terrible broadband connection, with no admins, just so I can level up.

So PC gamers, I ask you, Will you be getting MW3 in light of this news?

I for one, will be cancelling my pre-order if this doesn't change.
Source on the NO DEDICATED part.

Just because IWNet is used doesn't necessarily mean it will be user-hosted.
