I'm not too interested in competitive multiplayer, so this news and CoD in general elicit from me a big Meh. I like the campaigns of CoD, but I don't really feel like paying $60 for half of the game.

Really wish they would make a co-op focused title and take a year off from team deathmatch.
Actually that's pretty much what the Spec-Ops portion of the game is. You and your buddies in a survival mode :3

If im entirely honest I was never going to get the game in the first place after how horrible Black Ops and it's PC support was.

The attitude some people have in this thread makes me sick, the man is standing up for what he believes in by not getting the game and you're acting like he's being stupid, it's called backbone.

Edited because I turned into a preacher for a moment and didn't notice.

And we'd respect him for it, if he followed through.

Odds are he'll still buy it.

You remind me of this guy. In other news, my opinion of MW3 remains completely unchanged by this news, thanks for bringing it up I suppose.

I approve of this. Wanna rank up? Get off your custom server rule bullshit, play the game as it was engineered by the fucking developers. No you don't know game balance better than they do. Yes, you had best stop modding and aimbotting. Suck my left testicle, because why should you get any preferential treatment to anybody else, especially considering a significant PIRATE entity existing in the PC market. If you want to rank up, you'd best actually -buy- the game. You don't think IW.Net wont force your game to run a checksum of your game files, and validate your key each time you log on? Hah!

Cry Soem Moar.
Mate, what are you talking about?

At any point did I say I was going to pirate the game? Nice of you to assume, that because I want to be able to rank up on a dedicated server that I want to cheat.
No, my clan wants to run a server with a map rotation we like, with the power to kick arseholes and cheaters, and be able to rank up. Just like we did in CoD4. I've played COD4 and MW2. I know which system worked much better for most of the people I've spoken to.
So yeah don't go accusing me of being a cheater and a pirate. I'm pretty offended.

(EDITED due to rage.)

Well, friend, that'd be considered a private match. You don't get to rank up in private matches because it'd be so easy to just plain boost all the way to 10 prestige in the course of a week or two.

Except, it's not private. It's open to everyone that wants to join. It's a public server, just like CoD4.

..why couldn't you just have more than one char? Use one on IWnet and another everywhere (or anywhere else)?

I'm not seeing why this is such a binary decision.

The last good CoD game was the second one. I stopped caring after that and moved onto better things.

Today I discovered that the dedicated servers promised to PC gamers for MW3 have not been what everyone expected. Dedicated servers will be unranked only. This means that if you wish to level up and make any kind of progress you have to use IWNet, the matchmaking service introduced in MW2.

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

The reason most of us wanted Dedicated servers is so that we can enjoy the game with a regular group of people, in a low ping environment, with the settings how we like them. While it's true that you can still do this, it's a moot point because you make NO PROGRESS while doing this. I don't want to have to play with a bunch of random people I don't know, across someone's inevitably terrible broadband connection, with no admins, just so I can level up.

So PC gamers, I ask you, Will you be getting MW3 in light of this news?

I for one, will be cancelling my pre-order if this doesn't change.
Wow, you are so petty. Yes, you can't level up in a dedicated server, but then that's entirely the point. If you and your friends just want to play with each other for fun then go nuts, but if you honestly expect that you guys will gain online experience points in what is ostensibly a PRIVATE match, then you are crazy, because if this were the case everyone could simply make a random match for themselves and a spare controller and then get all the bonuses for their preferred weapons with absolutely no effort. It would render the entire point of levels and challenges moot.

Aside: And might I add that they did effectively the same thing with both Black Ops and MW2 by having a separate leveling save for private matches, thereby ensuring that your online challenges and statistics were actually accurate.

It's a public server that we would run, much like CoD4. It is NOT a private match. We would run this server, with the map rotation we like, and leave it open to the public, just as we did in CoD 4. the only difference is that Infinity Ward have decided that we're not allowed to use the ranking system any more. That's taking out a sizeable portion of the fun.

Well, more power to you for standing up for your opinion. I personally will not be getting the game, not because of any lack of dedicated servers, but because the premise does not interest me enough to spent the frankly extortionate amount of money they want for it.

People saying that matchmaking reduces hackers and such? Friend showed me the MW2 leaderboards on Xbox. Apparently people had been playing the game longer than it had been released. Very strange indeed...Cheaters gonna cheat.

So creating a pointless thread about issues that are beyond petty on a forum totally unrelated to his problem is showing backbone and not complaining about pointless bullshit and purchasing games YOU don't like is "letting big publishers screw us over"?

How's the view from that Ivory Tower of yours? I'm afraid us plebs down here with our unrefined tastes can't quite tell. But I'm sure you have a busy day of taking each and every update and new nugget of information that you don't approve of as a personal insult and slap to the face.
