Poll: Is atheism a religion/ the first amendment

from what i know a religion is a persons own beliefs and since also from what i know and its not much atheism is a disbelief in a god or deity which in my book clasifies as a set of beliefs s it should be treated s a religion

I know an atheist or two, none of them seem to say it's a religion, since they say atheism is at it's core the LACK of religious beliefs, so no, it's not a religion. But it IS still free speech, I have no right to tell them they're bad for it, and really no one else does . . . just because it's not a well documented "major faith" doesn't mean it isn't free speech

Oh, you most assuredly have a right to tell them that they're bad for it. You just don't have a right to ban it.

Good point, but I'm of an "alternate faith" myself, so I catch hell for it. I hate the idea of putting someone down for what they believe, so I really don't think it's right. But I'd fight for the right to free speech regardless. I don't agree with calling a person bad for it, but that's part of life.

I guess I should clarify, though: the government cannot officially tell us that atheism (or christianity etc.) makes a person bad either, or teach that in schools, or whatever.

Good point, but it doesn't seem to stop certain people around the country (or world for that matter) from trying does it? but then, that's the world we live in . . .

Yes, this is the most reasonable approach. My argument only works with certain things. But I will let you know if there ever is a human kind of celery.

Atheism isn't a religion in the same way that being bald isn't a hairstyle.

However, it requires protection in that one should not be forced to hold religious beliefs, nor should it be repressed.
