Otherwise I think it can be a smart strategy. Depending on the situation of course.
I agree, spawn campers are assholes but snipers can do it all they damn well please.

I think if you want to ruin your own game then ok. I think it's like you're not even playing the game. Camping isn't fun for the camper, it just racks up score. It's like on TF2 on say Control point and there are heavy defenses on the last control point and it's getting really intense and then all of the sudden people go sniper. It brings your score up but doesn't help the team at all and it isn't fun at all compared to ubering a heavy and tearing down the sentries.

only sniper's should be allowed to camp
This. Part of the challenge of only having one shot per kill is you have to be able to set up that shot, which doesn't really work if you're running around.

I don't think camping is a player problem - it's a game design problem. A well designed game would reward those who understand the map and punish those that don't, so that repeated plays and learning the map would remove their advantage. Camping against people who know the camp points just results in the campers death on a properly designed map.

That's how I feel anyway. If someone camps me, I'll just work out where they are, sneak up behind and give them a nasty surprise. If I'm lucky.

I never had a problem with campers (notable exception of spawn campers, though), but I always wondered how they had the patience to camp. I have tried camping before and it bored me until I ran out to kill someone...and got horribly killed.

I suck at FPS games...

Well what most people call camping I call: Getting drunk in the woods and leaving behind a shitload of garbage.
At least that's what my friends seem to think it means....

OH! CAMPING! It does bother me a bit, but I just man up and slay the camper.

Oh CAMPING, I thought he was talking about goin out to the woods with tent, heh oops.
How many more people are going to crack this same "joke"? Seriously. There's a point where the "joke" is dead and buried... So far it's been killed, buried, exhumed and repeatedly raped. Stop.
No, you seem to have missunderstood, I really thought he meant going into the woods with a tent and setting up campfires untill I read the two or three comments I read. I didn't read far enough to see the "jokes" you mentioned, but I assure you there was no sarcasm in my previouse post.

I was going to quote several above posts, but then my reply would be three pages long.

I see the overused "camping isn't fun" excuse. When I go 63-4 in a game I'm having fun. When I overhear you screaming on your mics that "I suck," I laugh.

Some of you are saying camping is OK if you use one weapon but not another. As I said above, you're creating arbitrary rules and expecting everyone else to adhere to them.

Again, you allowed me to spawn camp by letting me get into position. Watch your flanks and stop your whining.

All tactics are fair. If anyone who doesn't like that should stop playing games or practice until they get good enough to defeat campers.

I think camping can be unfair but a lot of that comes from what fps you're playing. I don't really care if someone camps in Halo 3 because it's not that big a deal to go and kill them. If you're playing CoD4 though and some guy is just sitting somewhere shady with a P90 and UAV jammer and there's no killcam then it's bs and that guy deserves a kick in the groin. Sniping is okay. It's part of the game and I like to play it. Sure it pisses me off when some jackass has put a round between my head from across the map but I know I'll be doing the same next round when I bring out my set and get him. If someone calls me a camper while I use it I just ignore them. In my opinion it takes more skill to snipe than it does to run around with an smg or a lmg just shooting as you go around corners.

Golden light fifty? dragunov? well i'll be honest i do camp from time to time as i snipe on every game i can. But hell in my team and clan, we have players, really good players who run around with smgs, assualt rifles, lmgs, (i can use these guns as well so if sniping ain't working i will change) so if i want to snipe with my team that choice should surely be upto me. And as for stratagy with a sniper, realisticly do you expect a sniper to be at the front of a group running and gunning? No, no you do not, thats why they have the range and precision. If my team needs covering i get nice and cosy and cover them. If some1 is planting at an objective guess what, i cover them, If im the only guy alive, guess what, i hide and crawl in the grass with my suit on and kill some1, take their gun, and kill the others.

Just becuase you don't have the patience or mentallity to be a team player who takes things slower and isn't the star of the show don't ***** about how others play.
There's a difference between the responable use of cover (as your stratagies indicate) and hiding in a deathmatch in some cheep place gunning down everyone who walks past your sights (camping). If your the last alive on a time, sure; hide. It's the smart option. It's not so much camping as real sniping, like you say. Camping is about making sure you cannot be seen in a deathmatch situation, and picking off people who are simply in the high traffic area you chose to camp. It's cheep in DM type games, and there's no need for it.

When they're camping at my spawn it makes me mad. When they're camping in my backyard it makes me mad. When they are camping out in the woods somewhere I don't care.

Well, sometimes it can be ok, but it depends on the game too. And they don't bother me really anyway. Or if they start to piss me off I just start camping too and kill them that way, or sneak up on them and execute them in a humiliating way or just take 'em out with some grenades or rockets and such.
But it can be fun too if you agree that all or most of you will use snipers or other rifles that are good for camping. If the others are good enough too it can turn out to be a great match. It worked out very well in Stalker and CoD for example. Even though I'm more of a run 'n gun type of guy when it comes to deathmatch games in MP, camping can be fun.

In the "Meet the Engie" video Valve put out for TF2, he's clearly fucking camping. That's all I have to offer to the discussion.

I think camping with Snipers and Engineers is okay, becuase its not good strategy for them to constanly runnining around. They are not made to be played like the Heavy or Soldier. The Engineers strength comes from his sentry gun, and he has to stay by it to fix it and stop sappers.

Actually not really, what pisses me off more is tea bagging. It's not seen much in PC games (from my many rounds of TF2) but while playing Halo 3 today some guy on my team kept tea bagging everyone he killed to the point where I went up behind him and killed him just to make him stop.
I have this problem too with my friend Nick. Except he doesn't do after he kills you, he does it when you've drunk too much beer and fallen asleep on his couch.... the dick.
