COD4 was (arguably) my GOTY for 2007. Great single-player, with loveable characters and a well told (if generic) story.
The multiplayer really shined for me. A lot of people are saying that It's unbalanced, but it really isn't. You could make any weapon work; you could use any weapon to your advantage. I personally favoured the MP5, a friend of mine swore by the Skorpion, and another friend constantly used the M4 or M16. Every weapon had its benefits, providing you used it properly.
The playing field was usually level in terms of perks as well. Most people chose Stopping Power, and overall it was very balanced. Martyrdom and Last Stand were minor annoyances, but avoidable given the skill.
The perks don't make the game unbalanced anyway. A skilled player with no perks will easily overcome a inexperienced player who's armed to the tits with juggernaut and a LMG.
