Sorry to say it, to the person above me, but It's not me that put them in the same sub-genre.
It is the media, and "authorities on music".
You think I don't know what I'm talking about?
I'm a fucking sound engineer...
I know what metal is, I mix it every weekend.
System of a down, Linkin park and Slipknot are all classed as nu-metal, so stop talking.
"Authorities on music?"

How the shit-frosted fuck is the Slipknot song I just posted nu-metal and not in the same genre as your average Iron Maiden track?
Blame Rolling Stone, I guess or some other popular magazine that claims they still give a shit about music. They're lying.

And what arbitrary designation makes their word any more legitimate than mine?

Not anymore, they're not. They used to be metal, now they're just weirdos who play instruments while wearing silly masks.
May I direct you in the direction of G.W.A.R.?

Ask them, haha. They get paid more than me to talk about what they consider music.
But, if the arctic monkeys are considered decent music to them, maybe I'm getting old.

Just because they get paid and are published doesn't necessarily make them right. People get paid to write and publish complete bullshit all the freaking time. Hell, there's even a whole channel based on it...Fox.

The same authorities that classify Blink 182 as punk rock? Or Evanescence as Goth Rock? A lot of those reporters don't know jack shit of what they are talking about, and it doesn't matter how good you are as a sound engineer, music journalism is a totally different beast. The whole genre/ sub-genre thing is just a marketing strategy; ever noticed how the term "indie" came from meaning "band that are signed by independent record labels (no matter what kind of music they play)" to an actual fashion trend, while bands like Interpol, who are signed to Capitol records now, are still considered indie.

I know they don't know jack-shit, but It's not like I can change their opinion, and seeing as though alot of people hang on their every word, Slipknot have been classified as nu-metal.
If you want to boycott it and try and change the genre classification, feel free.
I don't give a shit about them enough.

(crap, i hit quote again, not edit >.<)
In any case, you people here at the escapist are probably ten times more clued up on actual music than those hacks that write for music journalism (with the exception of drum media), but the bottom line is they dictate the industry, not you.
Music is a dead cow... :(

Classified by them. But many more people still classify it as metal, so the only thing that somehow makes their word more legitimate is being famous and having money, neither of which translate into knowing what the hell you're talking about. They're just people.

I will now ask anyone who says Slipknot is like these guys to please soak your head.

How does either of those translate into being right?

Since marketing obviously doesn't, I will make a point of how popular Nazi ideology was in Europe circa not more than 60 freaking years ago.
Popularity does not, never has, and never will equal truth.

Might i just ask,Akai Shizuku, why is this bothering you so much?I'm getting the impression you seem to think a band not being classed as metal immiedieatley makes it bad.

It doesn't,you can still enjoy the music no matter the genre..even if it is nu-metal.
And genres are NOT opinion, they are fact.

I still consider the band a great gateway to heavier music, despite being acclaimed by their HUGE fanbase to be "teh heviest shit evarrrrr".

The general consensus is they're nu-metal, like Korn or system of a down.
I didn't come up with the idea, nor do I really care.

Am I the only person in the world, aged over 18 who likes Nu Metal? I mean I like SOAD, Korn, Linkin Park's old stuff, Limp Bizkit's old stuff, Slipknot etc. I also like Devildriver, Divine Heresy, Hatebreed, Threat Signal, Machine Head, As I Lay Dying, Fear Factory, The Black Dahlia Murder and other stuff. I mean, I'm not into mega heavy stuff, but, so what? Its just a genre. Hell, I even like Dubstep.
