I have to disagree with you on your points for a number of reasons. While L4D2 had the same core concepts of L4D, it added many more things which fans in particular would have wanted to see, for example: melee weapons and realism mode (two things which keep me fascinated for hours in the game).MHS_Birdy said:

Oh, and I disagree on the quality drop, although I haven't really played too many Valve games (Only L4D and L4D2 as far as I know)
Half Life: Good.
Half Life 2: The most boring piece of average I have ever played.
TF2: Fairly good.
L4D: Decent.
L4D2: On the high end of decent.
(I don't count Portal as them, cause all they really did was throw money at a separate team that was already making the game before they got involved. I never played TF1, and I don't count CS as a Valve game cause a third party made it as a mod, not Valve.)
They are sort of rollercoasterey.
It's evident that their fanbase isn't particularly concerned with their quality however.

I'd say that the TF2 team are losing their way a bit. Of course the game is still fun, but a lot of the more recent updates have been pretty bad, especially since the introduction of random drops. The drops, and specifically hats, have changed the way people play the game. Before, the hook that kept people coming back was that it was an incredibly fun game, but now it's because they want hats. However, they can't really remove it now because that's what the game has become, and it would be pretty annoying having that gone now that we're all used to it. I do think they're putting too much effort into "fixing" things that aren't broken, like this new awful main menu, and a lot of their decisions regarding special items for some people and not others keep creating more and more division within the community. For example, these new iPod earbuds for Mac users are stupid. We all saw how bad it was when the Halo was given to some people and not others, and the amount of rage from both sides that it provoked, and now they create a new item that anyone can see will cause animosity between the two sides of an already raging argument between Mac and PC.
All in all, they're still good, but I think they need to pull emphasis away from hats and community weapons which barely fit into the game, if at all.

Over time? In my opinion they can't get any worse. Well maybe they could. Who knows. They suck right now though.

although you do make a valid point, i'm just perplexed as to why they would annouce L4D3 and 4.They already have seen the dumbasses who tried to ban L4D2 why would they do it again?Even though I for one am extremely excited to play it, portal doesn't need a sequel.TheNumber1Zero said:

Valve are bigger, that means there's more to do. With the same number of staff.

Yes I'm getting pretty sick of them. TF2 has been so bastardised over time (opinion OPINION. PLEASE DON'T HIT ME) There was not enough change to L4D2 (although I forgive that game for being so damn fun) and a big part of me thinks Episode 3 has been a cancelled project by now because they would have said something ANYTHING by now. And they are extremely over-rated, there I said it and I'm not changing my opinion no matter what anyone says.

It's not like they have been sitting around with their thumbs up their butts. Both of the L4D games where awesome, and I'm sure all of this stuff they are doing to Steam on the Mac is a lot of hard work.
Even if they don't talk about HL3 at E3, and just reveal the new Source engine, that will still account for a lot of work over the past few years.

Just want to point out 1 thing. Good companies tend to stick to only couple of franchises instead of spreading themselves all over the billion titles. Take a closer look at Blizzard - Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo (OK! Fine. Lost Viking and Rock and Roll Racing, but I doubt we will see World of Lost Vikings or Rock and Roll Racing: Wheels of Liberty in a near future). 3 (!) titles that probably are the 50% of the top 10 games in gaming history. Valve is following exactly the same road and I am happy with it.
