heh, I waited until now to get excited. Before I basically had the mind set: "It looks interesting and fun, but that's a long ways away, yet." Now, with my Gamestop announcing a Midnight release, and having that night off work, and only a week away now? Yeah, you can say I'm excited.

No hype, I would be disappointed if I bought into the hype. So I've been avoiding most Skyrim news like the plague. Of course I am going to buy it, I just don't want to care for it until I play it :D

This happens to me with 99% of my pre-orders, I think it happend after Black ops was such a dissapointment.

All the games I got pre-ordered for november, I was hyped for a few weeks ago, now, I just don't care, they'll come soon enough.

Also, I think I might suffer from depression, might be that.

For me, the hype and excitement have not dissipated because I haven't read much about the game. I haven't really read any articles thoroughly. All I've really seen, are the character screenshots. The only other piece of information I know, is about the lock-picking; but that's because my Husband told me off-hand during dinner.

I am still disgustingly enthusiastic and positive about it.

Didn't really care much for Oblivion. Skyrim doesn't look a whole lot different, but I'll probably give it a rent regardless.

See, the way they skills worked in previous Elder Scrolls games was the only sour part for me, as it often made it difficult to develop a character the way you intended to. I've got to say, seems like they've fixed that issue for me.

Well, I was never hyped for it and when I'm done with my exams in two weeks I'm gonna finish Dark Souls and play a bit of Final Fantasy Type-0 (which should arrive next week) - after this I'll get Skyrim.

The thing that killed your interest was the way skills worked? It seems like such an insignificant part of the game to me. "The grass in this game TOO GREEN! I hate it now."
Want to know why I played Morrowind? The maths part of levelling up. Setting your major skills as the things you didn't use to maximise the benefits. Now I can't do that.

To me, that was the game.
That was considered fun back then?

2002 must have been a strange time.

Edit: I've never actually looked forward more to a game more than this seeing how Oblivion was one of my favorite games I've played.

But in all reality, no, I'm not too hyped. I'm sure it's something to do with me getting older. But I think that's honestly the reason why it's going to be that much better.

I actually decided to skip out on Battlefield 3, and re-play Mass Effect 2 until TES V:Skyrim come out.

As much as I criticise Oblivion for its bad points (and of course there are bad points), I can't deny that I played the damn game for a significant amount of time, and I've come back to it several times after mod hunting. Of course Skyrim won't be perfect, and there'll be things I won't like. But as in Oblivion, there was nothing so drastic that pulled me out of the game and made me not want to play it. And if there IS, it can always be modded out.

So yeah, with that logic, I'm still hyped.

And that's exactly what I didn't like in Morrowind. When you're just starting out with the game, or even the franchise itself, it's kind of annoying to find out X hours in that your character is just about worthless, because you had little to no idea at the time as to what you're doing. I hated the leveling system in Oblivion and in Morrowind as well, since it really just baffles me how a system that rewards logically backwards thinking is considered so good.

Then again, that's my opinion. And no, I'm not an enemy of math.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

Still very much looking forward to it. I feared I would get burned out on the hype by now, but I've been purposefully keeping myself away from the majority of Skyrim leaks and topics for the last year or so. So maybe it's worked.

I've heard a lot of people saying it may only be a somewhat-improved Oblivion (sans balloon-faced alien characters), but to me, that's just fine. I devoured Oblivion to the point it has very little to offer me these days. So even if I just look at Skyrim as the funkiest expansion pack ever, that's just fine to me.

I spotted a friend (Who, unless I am mistaken, works at a game store) actually playing Skyrim on Xbox Live the other day. My myriad of emotions cannot be expressed in words.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Yahtzee's inevitable Skyrim review to immediately bring to my attention things to be annoyed by in the game. :p

I can understand what the OP means. A lot of games pump a crazy amount of money into their marketing. Unfortunately, the're marketed like Christmas in most retailers. They get people talking about it for so long, by the time they do come out, people get tired of hearing about it on release day.

Marketing should only really be done when there's about a month to go, not when the game's due out in a year or so.

It is still unknown that Skyrim will live up to it's promise of being a bloody good game, but from what little I've seen - I don't think it'll bomb as badly as Dragon Age 2 did. (Remember the crazy amount of marketing that had?)

I was just talking to my roommate who played it at PAX. It turns out that you can't equip a shield, a weapon, and a spell all at once because of the new "dual wield" system. Thanks Bethesda.

So yeah, not hyped at all.

EDIT:

Yeah, that was an instant interest-killer for me too. Oblivion offered the bare minimum for what I considered to make a true Elder Scrolls game. Cutting more was just the nail in the coffin.
would it be offensive if I said that I cant help reading your post in the "comic book guys" voice...you know from the simpsons
Only if it meant you weren't taking me seriously (Comic Book Guy isn't ever meant to be taken seriously). Though I tried reading it in his voice, and it just didn't work for me. My verbiage isn't in his character.

I know your reasons are just as valid as anyones....but yeah :p, anyway I hated oblivion (but loved fallout 3...but that was because of the setting more than anything) so..Ill probably give skyrim ago...a while down the track anyway

but Im "meh" at best
I'm certain to wait as long as it takes to release a GOTY at earliest. FO3 just didn't look like it was an improvement over Oblivion when accounting solely for gameplay mechanics. Setting-wise looked great though. I'm expecting Skyrim to be exactly that: Pretty settings with shitty gameplay. It's more depressing than anything because Morrowind is still my favorite game ever made. I want more of it, but I fear I will never get that. Not from Bethesda at least.

Yes, I'm still hyped. Less than I was, to be honest, but I'm still really looking forward to it. Even if it ends up playing just like Oblivion, I won't feel like it's money wasted.
