Do you really think Valve is just one entity? The studio that developed Left 4 Dead (formally known as Turtle Rock Studios) is not the same studio that works on Half-life. They have nothing to do with each other. This game isn't slowing down the development of Half-life. So, I assume knowing this now, you'll retract your statements?

They could've made it DLC, but I'll get it anyway. Maybe they'll make it so you merge the 2 and can use any of the 8 characters? Probably not, but a guy's gotta dream I guess.
It could still work; maybe they could be unlocked.

Okay, you're really acting stupid.

Are you aware that Valve is divided into teams? There are individual teams for each of Valve's games. Half-Life has it's own team separate from the Left 4 Dead team. Left 4 Dead 2 has hardly any effect on the production of Episode 3.

TF2 has massive updates why can't L4D right? That is what I'm thinking.

I'm personally in between Why? and Yay! because I don't want to pay for another L4D but I do want new stuff for L4D.

Edit: Mkay I just saw the trailer now I'm voting YAY!!!!!

I've taken a good look at the game and it's not like it's worthless. But yes, it is a bit pointless when a lot of this could be added with DLC.

I say nay as it seems more like an update then an actual sequel, probably more of a DLC content, that and DAMN YOU VALVE I JUST BOUGHT THE ORIGINAL!

Sounds alright to me, i would like to see some character customisation and maybe a plot, and some even uglier zombies

Known information about Left 4 Dead 2 so far..

-Multiple Pistols
-Melee Weapons
-New characters
-New location
-Five new campaigns
-New unannounced game mode
-The Charger
-Another unannounced boss infected
-Updated AI director, rumor that he may be able to change the map depending on player's progress
-Updated cresendo events to prevent camping
- Included "Gauntlet Events" where the AI director takes off the gloves, and can spawn multiple tanks and witches, over 10 special infected, and absolute hordes, and can only be stopped by reaching a certain point
- New weapons, including a new shotgun, SMG, and sniper rifle
-Complete custom map support, even with the original L4D
-Better hitboxes and better hit detection

Sounds good to me

THis is really odd. I mean, I'd buy it, I like l4d, but still, Valve.

Those guys have some crazy ideas for procrastinating Episode 3.

Melee weapons are going to ruin this game for versus (and especially competitive versus), mark my words.

As for EP3, I'm guessing that they're buying time because they can't actually work out how to finish the story.

Due to some spy michief the new Half Life 2: Episode 3 is being advertised under the title Left 4 Dead 2.

Gordon Freeman is the AI Director.

Seems like a kick in the balls to me, along the same line as Apple lowering the price of the Iphone a couple weeks after release. I bought Left 4 Dead last year and now Valve announces a sequal instead of giving more updates to the one that they just made less than a year ago. And if they can come out with a full game in a year, why are we waiting so long for Half-life episodes?

First of all, let me make one thing clear: I have absolutely no disdain for Left 4 Dead 2. The only criticism I can make towards the game is...WHY?

The original Left 4 Dead (yes, now we have to call it "the original") is still hot off the shelves, and Valve announces a sequel?

(What the hell happened to Episode 3?)

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this is a bad move.

(And seriously, where the fuck is Episode 3?)

Now, let's pretend for a second that people actually wanted a sequel this early; what new game mechanics do they have in store for us this time around? Nothing much.

We have new settings, new characters, new weapons and the ability to use melee weapons. It sounds more like an update to Left 4 Dead than an actual sequel.

(And let us not forget, they're probably really busy making Episode 3!)

And the title! Left "4" Dead "2"? From now on it should be a rule: you can only have ONE single digit number in the title of your game!

(Unless that game is Half Life 2: Episode 3, that would be okay!)

But I didn't make this thread just so I could rant about Left 4 Dead 2 (I'm writing a book for that), I made it so I could see what others think about it. Do you think it's a good idea? Thoughts? Questions? Random fanboy rage? Say it all with a comment :)

(AND GODDAMMIT VALVE!!! FINISH EPISODE 3!!!)
Calm down man. Episode 3 will be done eventually. Valve doesn't rush their games to meet arbitrary release dates, they work on them until they are done and the games are usually better for it. They did it with Half-Life 2, they did it with Episode 2, they did it with Team Fortress 2 and all those games were great. It's better for them to wait and make the game as good as it can be than for them to rush it out the door to please the fans. Patience my friend. Patience.

They should have really just bought out more expansions and worked on Left 4 Dead by bringing out new weapons, maps etc instead of just dropping a new game on us.
