Believe it or not, that's the "kept very simple and with the actual traumatic parts removed so as not to freak anyone out or ruin my reputation" version, so yeah, I appreciate the luck and acknowledgement. If anyone actually cares to hear the other bits, I don't mind at all, it was strangely therapeutic just getting that bit out.

I'm 19 and living at home. I go to university and I cannot get a job anywhere at the moment so renting really isn't an option. I probably won't be able to move out until I'm at least 24 and then I want to move interstate.

29, still with the folks for financial reasons, although I'm very actively looking for a flat I could rent on the cheap that wouldn't be too far from the campus.

It's always been clear to my parents that the one thing that really matters is my getting situated financially. Past that, I can stick around for as long as I need or want to. I'm very close to being able to consider myself as financially stable, so I'm giving myself a year or two.

Long enough to finish my degree, and then I'll more than likely be outta here. I've always had a good sense of independence despite living with my parents, so it's more a case of me starting to think like it's about time I found a place where I have the remotely available option to stay up late without earning disapproving sighs.

Due to my work situation, or lack thereof I'm kind of living with my parents out of necessity. They want me there, and really nice people and all, but I just want my independence, I plan on moving out first chance I get.

I'm 17 and I still live with my parents. They like having me around. However, a few friends and I are planning on getting a place together, in the near future.

I'm a university student, not living with my parents. If I wanted to continue studying, staying at home wasn't ever an option as it would be a seven hour round trip every day. So I moved out just before I turned 18.

So currently I'm living with my older sister (who's also studying). I'm not completely independent of my parents, they pay half of our rent for us. They've promised to continue supporting us financially as long as we are working towards our degrees.

To be honest, I would kind of like to still be living with my parents. I have a really strong relationship with my mum and dad and I do miss them sometimes.

I'm not really sure how to answer the poll. On one hand they don't want me to move back as I won't be able to get a degree there, or a job using my degree later. But they do want to have me around because they love me. They've been talking that once my two younger siblings leave home to study, my parents my move as well so that they can be closer to us.

I still live with my mom. Well, "still". I'm 18 so you know. Don't think she minds.

I'd gladly move out and face new and frightening challenges like cooking and washing my own clothes, but I have no way to finance it.

You're 18? Huh, for some reason I always thought that you were at least a decade older than me.

I "suffer" from a mild case of senoritis, and have for the longest time.

I wouldn't call myself mature but people always tell me I act 10 years older than I am.

You aren't the only one to hear that. People joke I should carry a cane because I act older than I my age.

OT: I'm about 6 hours away from home so yeah dorm living and the college life for me.

I am a college student and I live with my parents happily. I have been thinking about moving closer to my college, but my parents really like having me home, and I do very much love my home. But when other people know i can live at college, and still choose at home and commute 1 1/2 hours every day they wonder why?

So my question is what are my fellow escapists living condition's in relation to there parents or maybe other family?

I stayed at home while I was in undergrad... you don't rack up extra expenses so when you graduate and get a job you can spend your $$$ and have a much nicer place than most of those who got deep in debt living alone in college. Plus it contributes to finding yourself at the right pace. New people, new hard studies AND living alone can be a bit much, and the good development of one of those is hindered often. While if you live at home, you can pay attention to your studies and either fall in love with them or realize you want to do something else while the time is right. Then when you are have done intellectual growth you can focus on learning to live alone - manage a budget etc. Also - you can find a significant other in college and move in with them once both of you graduate and have $$$.

However, once I graduate and get a job, they warn me that they'll start charging me $2000 monthly rent, so I imagine we'll both want me out of there at that point.

1.5 hours? sweet jesus, that is a far ass trip, fuck that (figured it would be 20-30 minutes at most, you must have the interstate right next to your house and college or that is a pain in the ass on gas milage)


OT: I live with my grandparents actually, they live about 2 miles from campus so it's pretty easy. I lived on campus my first two years and it was great, but sweet jesus if it isn't a money printing scheme, soooo expensive. (my parents don't let me take out any more loans than the stafford, so i usually have to pay the rest of my tuition and for books, so there is no way in hell i can afford a place of my own yet.)

I'm 20 and this is my first semester of college living on my own. Mainly because the past two years I went to college out of state, and therefore it was much easier to just live in a dorm. Living on my own, now, is a pain. Having to pay my own rent, utilities, food, all that, and only able to work 24 hours a week is really hard to make ends meet sometimes.

But that being said, while my parents probably wouldn't care if I moved back in with them, I don't want to. Because my dad constantly held the grudge, before, of, "I was completely self sufficient from my parents at 18! Why can't you do it at 20?!" I can't deal with that sort of thing. -.-

So... I'm living on my own because I need my independence, and because I'm stubborn as hell.

i hate when my parents pull that card too, the ole "I took 18 credit hours a semester and had 2 jobs! you can barely keep one job and only have 16 credit hours, how are you not gettin all A's?!?!!?"

I really wish I grew up in their era just to see how hard college was at the time (not to mention they were in marketing and i'm in engineering, so the classes are much harder anyways)

And it's a medium-high rate in Edmonton right about now. We have a pretty nice house that we got RIGHT before the ridiculous housing boom.

Now, if you want to live without roommates, you'll be hard pressed to find anything for less than $1000 a month that isn't "problem housing".

I'm 98% sure the point of $2000 rent is to get me the hell out of their home.

$1000 for the apartment itself, regardless of who's in it. I'm not really a roommates person, so I'd like to get my own flat. It'll be hard to find something reasonable, though.

Now, when I want to get a mortgage, a ten-year mortgage will cost me at least $4000 a month for anything good. Edmonton's not the best place to buy homes at the moment.
