I buy DLC less than I buy actual games.
I can't afford to pay fucking twenty quid on a goddamn map pack or one single fucking bonus mission or whatever.

I'll pay for something for a game I really like. But I will have to make sure I'm getting something worth getting first.
And also it will probably have to be severely reduced.

Well, I don't think there is an option in that poll for me.
I've never bought DLC, but not because of cost, but because I normally don't want my DLC's that come out, and even when I do, im too lazy to go and buy a £20 PSN card.

I usually only buy dlc for games if it adds something to the story say the extra stuff for Oblivion or Dragon Age for example. Cosmtic stuff like costumes or extra guns I won't bother with as they really aren't needed and don't affect the story one way or another. I donb't play FPS online so I don't need to worry about maps though the husband has brought a few for games he really enjoys playing online.

Black Ops. I love the MP, but I'll be damned if I'm paying 1,200 Microsoft Points for the sake of some maps and no other in-game content.

That's a few indie games, a couple of pieces of good DLC for another game, a few movies.. It could be any number of other things.

800? I'd grudgingly pay, but I'd want the maps to add something, and not be just more sniper-proof clusterfucks.

My question is this; have you ever had this experience, where you've wanted/semi wanted the DLC, but have purposefully 'voted with your wallet', and not bought it because it felt insultingly priced?

For the record, I've spent about 30,000 Microsoft points in my time. I'm no stranger to buying things I want, but I know when I feel something is put at too high a premium.
i like to wait until every piece of DLC is out when they make a DLC map bundle, and if i still like the game enough, i will get it then. its pointless in buying every individual map pack, and ending up paying twice as much.

I don't buy map packs, though I have bought one or two "expansions", but that is probably more about the fact that I don't play that much multiplayer, which makes buying maps pointless.

As for the actual point of the thread, I buy what I feel I want, but the limit of what I want to spend is usually around 800 MS points, unless I'm insanely in love with the game.

i've refused to by DLC because the file is too big for my download limit...
i've also refused to buy DLC because i don't care that much for the content...
i'm not that bothered about price... i'm conditioned to high prices (from australia)

I've bought DLC before but mostly even if I want it I won't buy it until the price is lowered or the item put on sale.

You wouldn't believe how rare it is to see a DLC on sale.

EDIT:

Oh and those DLC's I did buy?

£0.99 Killing Floor Nightfall Character Pack & £0.59 Magicka Wizard Hat DLC.

Who doesn't want to wear an awesome suit during the zombie apocalypse or wield a +1 staff when casting spells?

SECOND EDIT:

What the big name devs don't get is that pricing things a little lower allows their DLC to become impulse buying rather than an investment which equals more sales and a bunch of other extra benefits like customer satisfaction. (Don't underestimate the customer, if they want to they can fuck up your sales figures)

Empire total war unit packs. Ugh, came with the deluxe version, was not even close to being worth it.

Poll is poorly phrased.

I have, in the past, not purchased DLC items because I thought they were overpriced... most recently the Mass Effect 2 weapon and armour packs just weren't worth the money to me.

What I have bought, however, was worth every penny to me; all the Halo series' map packs were easily worth the price given how much I've played them and how long I played on each, and the mission packs for Fallout 3 and Mass Effect 2 were easily worth the $10 or $15 bucks. ("Arrival" was $7, for that matter.)

For every £1, i want at least 30 mins of gameplay. That's what i expect off a full release so i expect it off DLC also. If it does not comply to that, it can get fucked.
Skins, weapons, map packs. They can all burn in hell.

If a DLC is worth the money, Ill buy it. if its not, I don't. Same as with a game. All this nitpicking about what should or shouldn't be in a game seems rather silly: If the content your getting is worth the price, get it.Doesn't need to be any more complex then that

I don't hardly ever buy DLC for anything not a Bioware game, to be honest, and I've been satisfied with those. They've never been outrageously priced, and for the most part it's pretty decent stuff.

That said, and slightly more on topic, I've never really let price be a large determinant in my purchasing decisions. Maybe it's because I live pretty simply, but I have more than enough money just laying around to spend on games and whatever that I want whenever the impulse strikes, and I really don't earn a whole lot. I could see it becoming a concern if/when I get a family, but just supporting myself, I have more than enough money for any amount of games I want.

I'm very picky about what I spend my money on. I will only buy something if i know for a fact I will enjoy it. So far the only game I've bothered downloading a lot of DLC for is Mass Effect 2 because I deem it worth it.

I would never buy something like cod map pack, nor would i buy cod for that matter.. If its something like FO3/ME2 DLC that adds hours of gameplay and additional content then i will buy it, but if its 2 lousy multiplayer maps for a game that had like 6-8 maps to begin with then screw that game, i would rather play CS with tons of free user made content.

I almost never pay full price for DLC. For both Oblvion and DA:O I waited on the DLC till there was a GOTY version. Sadly, this means I still haven't played any of the ME2 DLC yet, even though I loved the game, I just refuse to pay those prices. ><
