Girlfriend: whatcha doin? me: [mumbles] her: huh? me: i dunno? playing minecraft. her: shouldn't you eat something? me:... her: take a shower? me: uh... her: fucking shave! me: don't worry, i'm almost down with my floating obsidian tower. her: your what!!!?

For some reason, even though I love the game, I don't play it anymore. It's really cool but I'm just not feeling it lately.
Kind of my stance on it. I hope I do get back into it though. It's quite a lovely game.

I've been using it as a time waster during class when nothings going on.

I'm not even building anymore, just exploring a giant mountain maze that I'm slowly trying to turn safe.

Just now I loaded my world 3 up after reading this thread (it's my non cheating world, although I'm still considering it, lol.) and I have to admit that looking at the giant and awesome fortress like mountain by my spawn point, I felt a twinge of the old "ooh, this could be fun!" But I need something to drive me to do whatever it is I do in sandbox games. Thats why I hardly ever beat games like GTA. I get caught up in the sandbox fun stuff, and then when it's time to do the missions, I'm bored of the game. Then I get into the story and I'm like "woah, this is fun!" But yeah an error ended my game so I decided to just wait till the urge comes back. I feel out of the loop though, I haven't been messing around with all the updates yet.

Seriously, I can't be the only person who's completely absorbed with it. I recently had an "oh crap, I've been playing this thing for four hours now". Full props to Notch for doing this by himself!!

Oh yes, feel free to share your "OMG ITS AWESOME" here.
Just wanna say, nothing against the creator, I respect him and he did good work that well works for him

but as for the game, I can't stand it and I think it's being given WAAAAAAY more credit than it deserves

"Well the graphics are cute and charming"
yeah and when Cubivore did it they were called "Lazy" by a lot of people

"Well you get to do whatever you want"
you can do that in Cube 2, which is free, and has guns, and looks better, and has not broken multiplayer

"Well, it's MINECRAFT!"
Umm, so? honestly I've known about it sense like 2003 or '04 I forget, when did the first halo come out? I played it 6 months after that (it was classic though) and you're just finding out about it?

In all honesty I'll give it 8 months after the full release before people start getting bored or become so obsessed they just get gary's mod

ugh...

I put "Meh" as my response, it's not good, not bad... why? because it's not complete, get back to me after the full version is out and I play it for a few hours...

oh

Before anyone else says I hate it because I have "no imagination" or "well you suck at it"
Is that Yahtzee's skull fortress that he said he built? from the Zp review?

Nah, first off, she is definitely not a gamer. at all. Secondly, huh? Why would I not take a shower with her and what does that have to do with minecraft?

Engh, I guess it's not bad. Not something I'd waste hours on, though. Just toy with every now and then.

...... it's a time sink... Not like WoW or everquest or going for 100% completion on final Fantasy 8... It's a game that literally slows your internal clock. i've sat down at 10 am and said i'll stop at lunch time, two hours later I looked at the clock and it was 3:00 pm. I'm wondering if this game slows your blood pressure or something.

It is good, I really like it and my coastal fortess, complete with lighthouse and dock is coming along nicely. It's also nice to just wander the vast nothingness of the world and take in the natural wonders. I know they're really glitchs but the "floating isle of sand mountain" on "the isle of coal caves bloody everywhere" is alot more appealing than "why is that sand floating? notch needs to fix that. also why is there so much coal here?"

Spelunking has entered the "going to use it to describe a game" part of my vocabulary. Also to just take a step back look at the thing you just built and say "i just built that it is unique to me and it is mine." That's a hard feeling to replicate.

I got pretty mad, when I lost Gold when I fell into lava, and Gold only actual use is to make clocks...

Maybe you get sucked into a parallel universe where TIME HAS NO MEANING.

It does have meaning, to punch blocks and place them in other spots!

Seriously though, Minecraft is the new Lego. I spent countless hours as a kid playing with Legos, and now I do essentially the same thing on Minecraft.

Those are meh creations. They're rather small and uncomplicated. Try checking out the Minecraft forums and all the amazing creations that span hundreds of blocks wide and dozens high. From recreations of towers, to full blown court houses. Hell, even one guy recreated a life sized 1:1 replica of the Starship Enterprise D.

It's taking over a month for a single man to create.

Keep trying though, you may get the hang of it and truly appreciate the game. As for the thread, I spend too many hours on it, especially when I have a project to complete in-game that I underestimated the time required for it. I hate that.

I also hate the few hours of sleep I am getting lately.

I don't enjoy making things in minecraft now.

I had made towns, castles, mines, train stations and more. Sure it took me awhile but now I can't be bothered to make anything. I'm not out of ideas. I get an idea but don't do it because making will take to much time. Also to what point? The joy of making it you say. Well I don't anymore it's just boring.

More likely that people who don't like it just don't see the point of the game. And there isn't one.

There is no narrative, no quests, no real pve, no pvp etc. It's just one big sandbox, which is fine and all, but isn't it the developers job to entertain me in the game instead of me having to find some way to not get bored?

Whoops, I should add that this is the link to the video for the guy who built/is building a 1:1 scale model of a starship named Enterprise.
