Its depressing what people do now with games. Who cares which game is better? They are both going to be fun, stop trying to validate your own purchase by proving its better. Enjoy what you buy.

A better way to set out your question would be "Which game do you believe will be better Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3".
In my opinion I think Battlefield 3 will be better. I have like/loved all the battlefield games so far. Where as I only like Modern Warfare. The gameplay of the later ones suck.

On topic. The PC version of Battlefield 3 is probably going to be amazing with the return of 64 player battles. But as others have pointed out you'll need a serious rig to get the most out of it.
Battlefield 3 might be able to outsell MW3 on PC's since they've taken away the dedicated servers again. Which is the equivalent of someone punching your mom in the face to PC gamers. But the real money is on the consoles. And it's probably not going to sell as well on consoles. Call of Duty has become Activision's Madden. It doesn't matter how few changes or updates you make people will still buy it for whatever reason. Activision managed to find whatever the magic formula is that keeps people coming back. Just like EA did with Madden. (Having the exclusive NFL license probably has something to do with it) I don't know what it is but Activion found it, and it's not innovation that's for sure.
Still it's good that EA is still so determined to out shine Activision. It means they actually put effort into BF3.

I'm sorry? Modern Warfare's story always felt like a poor man's season of 24 to me. Improbable (Russia invades the United States? Why? How? With what?), illogical, more than a little stupid, and really only there to duct tape set pieces together.
The third game promises to be no different, so I'm curious as to why you feel the third is so overwhelmingly superior to an entirely new package. Battlefield 3 at least promises a fresh start for the series, and that could mean the changes it needs to seem fresh.

I think someone has been intruding on IGNs job of sucking cock for money and making one of the most biast votes I have ever seen. Gears 3 is on there but at this point Gears has faded so hard as a franchise against the tyrants of C.o.D and BF that it is easily tagged as a trash game by comparison.
I am personally spending my cash on BF3 simply because I prefer having terrain you can shoot through, realistic combat engines while having a proper class system (IE medic being an actual medic with healing kits etc) not just some system which says you have classes then gives you the choice of a shotgun or SMG as primary.
Which brings me back to how the fact even now, several months after Bl:Ops hit our shelves the 74u is STILL op and now they have patched it so that the variable scope + a PSG1 or LSG (the 2nd to last sniper) are instant kills on CORE game lists.

So yeah. MW3 can suck the salty sweat off my balls. As much as I hate EA they are the lesser of two soulless money vacuum cleaner corporations. At least DICE has more nadges than IW or Treyarch.
I think honestly, I don't play either game, but I'm seriously considering losing my life to BF3 when it comes out (I'd be a total n00b though since the last FPS I played heaps of was CS:S), its incredible graphics, dedicated servers (this first guy speaks of), destructable environments (3:15), but mostly just from a word of mouth point of view, which is basically my only point of view here, the BF series also seems to have less idiots in the games, and COD sort of seems to be giving online FPS a bad rap for that, from what I've heard anyway.

When I saw the E3 demo of MW3 (http://youtu.be/qenp8jNzLYw), I honestly thought it was a mission from Modern Warfare 2. They had scuba divers, the slow-mo door explosion and the same sorts of weapons. That's a mission opening from MW2...I remember it. There was nothing original or revolutionary there at all.
I'm looking forward to Battlefield 3, for one, the graphics and realism of it looked far superior, and I'll bet the gameplay and story is probably better too.

I'd rather play MW2, walk for 10 seconds, MAYBE 20 seconds, and get quickscoped, than run around for 5-10 minutes looking for someone to kill, only to be sniped from someone across the fucking map.
MW2 has a much more quick paced combat system, and I could never get into BF2 or any BF game. They're simply really really boring.
I'm not saying MW2 is the golden pinnacle of FPS games, but I've enjoyed the single player and multiplayer of every single Call of Duty game (Black Ops doesn't count) to date, and I am super excited for MW3
