I got into gaming because around 2001, my friends started bringing their pokemon games and their gameboys to school and I got really jealous of them so I begged my parents to get a gameboy for me.

It's actually the same time as my first gaming memory, so I'll reiterate my post in that thread.

"Give CHARMANDER a nickname?"

The game that got me my gamer status is Legend of Mana for the Playstation in 2000. Even though the game disk would freeze at Gaeus every time I still had a lot of fun with the game.

I started by playing "Galaxians" on an Atari at a friends house after school. My uncle had a Coleco-vision and my sister and I spent many hours playing Dungeons and Dragons. We had to keep putting 50 pence pieces in the TV to keep it working. This made me an arcade obsessive, and I used to rule at the original Star Wars game.

The first machine I actually owned was an "acorn electron" (a crappier version of a BBC micro) - Though it did have a version of Elite, so that was good. I then upgraded to a Sinclair Spectrum and found the delights of Operation Wolf, Renegade and the like.

So basically, longer than most of you have been alive.

I feel very, very old.

It all started in the mid '90s with my first PC and Dune2. Several sleepless nights later, I was hooked.

I've been playing games since the early '90's, before I can remember. My earliest memory is of "Super Metroid" for the SNES. My older brothers no doubt got me hooked before I could even talk.

Early 90's, got a lend of a megadrive and played a lot of sonic. Bought an old Nes soonafter for about £20 (dang I feel old even remembering how much old money used be worth!) and never finished super mario, but hell did I play a lot!

The N64 was the real call to gaming though, played mario 64 at a friend's and was blown away with this fancy 3d business. Bought one second hand for cheap with Mario, starfox, mario kart, goldeneye and blast corps. Some of my best memories ever right there. *wipes tear*
Ocarina became more immersive than real life when i first got that too...

Edit: Hot dang, I like how that curve has a smooth normal distribution; STATISTICS WINS AGAIN.

I grew up with an older brother and a dad who games so I had a controller in my hand before I can remember. My first game was Altered Beast for the Sega Genesis, or so they told me. I was born in 1992 so at the latest 1995, you don't need to be a genius to hit the "punch" button, especially since I was always 2nd player. I never really thought how impacting it was since it's been there since I was born and it wasn't my choice to start playing, but I could never give it up now.

The first game I have played was Street Fighter @ 5yo(1992) when I went with my mom to the seaside.A few years later my dad sent me a gameboy and I 'became' a gamer then because I was finishing Super Mario more than 1 time.

I started in the mid 90s, about when I was 4 and after (1995-) playing my siblings' beloved NES games like the Super Mario Bros. games and Punch Out.

Born in '94, by 5 I was "playing" Tomb Raider 3 and Heart of Darkness.

Playing in quotes because I was really crap at them. I still remember the exact bit on Tomb Raider 3, 5 minutes into the first level, where I got stuck and had to get my Dad to do it for me.

Same with Deus Ex - I couldn't get past the training level (this was a couple of years later, so I was 6/7). I assume that's why my Dad let me play a 15 at the age of 6, up until recently he was never that lenient on ratings.
