I don't know, I didn't mind the newer videos actually. I wouldn't personally rush out and buy any of it, but none of it sucked either. The stuff the OP is holding up as a shining example of old-school metal actually impressed me less. While I like the Maiden song "Hangar 18" definitely isn't one of the better Megadeth songs out there (it's a low point on a good album), and Cacophony were just a plain dull shred-fest, like Dragonforce without the sense of humour.

Nothing to do with "talent" either, all the bands seem more or less equally talented and the whole concept of "talent" in music has been outmoded ever since the birth of punk in the late 70s proved that you didn't need to be a music expert to write great songs that people liked.

Today i had the "opportunity" to listen to modern day music (on reflection, i was forced into it) and what was experienced has forever scarred me and has deepened my hate for greed.
What i'm talking about is todays music, sure you could call some of the new artists talented, but only if you like eating through a tube.

What happened to the 80s, sure people wanted to be in bands to haul in some cash but atleast they faded away quickly because heroin was still obtainable which kept out all of the people who had no real friends/fans. What happened to buckling down, writing music, trying to make what you're playing sound good? Where the fuck did all the talent go? Im starting to blame pro tools and girls who like the emo/hardcore image and pretty boys who cant take a punch to the face.
I, for some reason beyond understanding, was not raised in the 80s but after the age of 7 i refused to listen to music that was brought to me by the tv or the radio, only I would choose what id even listen to and i then raised myself in the 80s by listening to nothing but the golden age of metal

Prime example, 80s metal.

After these last two videos, you may be asking "Why must you make me listen to this? What the fuck have I ever done to you?" Well please endure this last video to kick you swiftly in the nuts and say, "there's more, ****."

By now you've probably opened up itunes and are now in the secure domains of your own music.

My question to you is, have you felt metal has become boring now? Does there need to be another jimmi hendrix to redefine the fine arts of music? Another metallica to start up a genre? Another Megadeth to refine it?
Well to start with, Megadeth refined what exactly LMAO, I wish i could sing without my balls attached. IMO Megadeth are one of the horros of the 80's and didnt do much but attach themselves to a genre and do a half assed job at it.
If anything it was the GERMANS who are the awsome ones in the terms of thrash metal!!
and guess what, the big 3 or german thrash are still going XD

But really you havent done much research have you, stop listening to your spoon fed ideas about metal and go out and listen to some bands that are doing something interesting. How can bands do new and interesting things when people are so stuck in the 80's that they dont even give newer bands a chance. Yeah alot of bands suck but hey ALOT OF BANDS SUCKED IN THE 80's.

go listen to Triton (canada), or Unexpect (canada) Estradasphere (USA),or Kayo Dot (USA) if you want something newer that is interesting. Honeslty they are just ripping off Jazz, but really isnt all modern music :p

Because change happens. Each generation has said the exact same thing about the next generation's music, regardless of genre. This is nothing special, just another cycle, like fashion :)

^this is a prime example of modern power metal. Its perfect

Hey its called death and brutal metal, it's not for everyone, many of the much more obscure bands are very niche. You just have to accept different opinions.

dude, bmth arent grind, they were deathcore but have moved more towards the hardcore scene now
Oh I guess you're right. I had Suicide Silence going through my head when I wrote that so i'm now using that as my excuse. xD

Though they do have grind elements in a lot of their songs. =]

I feel the same way as OP sometimes. Some of this new stuff just licks major balls in my opinion.

Hair metal sucked, always did, always will. Modern metal has plenty of shovelware, but there are gems to be found. My personal favorites are amon amarth, arch enemy, and opeth (opeth being the most versatile metal band i've ever heard). Also, i think the OP's opinion is pretty harsh, clearly he hasn't explored the finer depths of metal.

i myself am an avid fan of bmth, i also love cannibal corpse, i absolutely hate bullet for my valentine

many old golden day metal bands dont really quite do it for me

i find metallica a bunch of tryhards who are trying to act like they are still 15 and end up looking like posers, they did so much for metal and i respect them hugely but they just dont do it for me

they aint ever gonna be another jimi hendrix, we can only hope that his music stays around for the new generations to listen and enjoy and be influenced by, dont forget all the music your hating on up their was influenced by the stuff your supporting, before they started bring me the horizon its members were all in a metallica tribute band

many bands of today are disappointing but then again many are quote promising, the aussie hardcore scene in particular

No, but it would be nice.

I think we have enough genres as it is. But feel free to start up one of your own and see if it catches on.

That would be good too, preferably a band with Dave Mustaine's talent but without Dave Mustaine's personality.

if you hadn't noticed, metal is doing very well for itself atm. Bands like Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God and Machine head are keeping it fresh and a damn sight better than most of the 80's. If you ask me, we're in a second 'Golden Age' at the moment. Of course there's crappy mainstream stuff like BMTH, but need I remind you of Motley Crue?
