Well lets see, I sit in a desk for 2 hours and get lectured, then I move to a DIFFERENT desk and get lectured again. That certainly sounds like the real world to me.

Although I have to say highschool is alot more realistic. Its grade school that used to drill holes in my fucking skull. Walk in a straight line. Give me 10 real life scenarios where that would apply, and I will sacrifice my left nut
Yeah, same here. I'm wondering what they are teaching us in math. I have paid attenton for two years and guess what, Never had to know when to find x on a parabolum while I'm shopping at the grocery store. If I become a scientist I will go to fucking COLLEGE o learn that, and all this Shakespeare shit, We don't fucking talk like that anymore.

This is my main problem with school: it was never about learning, it was always about passing tests. To weave the stupid from the smart, the lazy from the workers, and to get that little letter on your report card that tells you your are worth a damn.

This is why I justify cheating besides being lazy.

Another thing I really hate? Being forced to learn foreign languages to get into a good college. The only way you're really going to learn it is if you genuinely want to, otherwise it is just another hurtle in place to smack alot of kids in the face.

And let's be honest, it's an incredible broken system.

Yes because your right nut is SO important compared to the left.

O.T. I was given two 2 hour detentions for "Speaking out in class and being rude."

Let me excplain, My Social Studies teacher Mr.D told us to take out a stock market paper that he claimed to give us. I said "I don't remeber getting that paper, are you sure you gave it to this class?" Mr.D said "Yes I'm sure I gave it out, now just pull it out.

Then two girls in the class who have everything color coted, numberd, and completely memorised type of organization go. "I think Angus(me) is right, I don't think you gave us any stock market graph." He refused to beleive us and just told us to take it out. The rest of the calls also said they didn't have it.

So I'm like "I really don't think you gave it to us, half the class also thinks so, so i'm guessing something is wrong." Then Mr.D flippes, he getts into this 10 minute long lecture on how he gave us the paper and how he has photographic memory and shit. Finaly he gives in and gives us the paper (for the first time), as he passes me one he goes, "You NEVER speak to me like that in my class, I treat you with the utmost respect and you should show the same, 1 detention." Then im like " What? what did I do so wrong that I deserve a detention, I didn't have the paper along with the rest of the WHOLE class and I just pointed it out, why am i getting punished for making sure we all have our work." Mr.D replies "Thats 2 detentions now get out of my class"

BULL, FUCKING, SHIT. I DID NOTHING, why do teacher always asume they're right when 90% of the time they're not.

[sup]Sorry just venting[/sup]

This is one of the biggest problem with the American education system. Students that can not get out of the mentality that what they are learning will not help them in the future.
And I'm one of those people. Heres the thing, I am never going to have to find x on a parabolum because I'm not gonna become a rocket scientist. We don't need to know this stuff. I understand History we shouldn't repeat, but hell they are now just repeating what they taught me in 3rd grade and we only have one year of world history. No one talks like shakespeare any more so thats pointlesss. Science and religion( If you go to a religious school) I can accept though. What they should be teaching us is how to pay taxes, how topay bills, all the stuff they haven't passed over ONCE.
I accepted long ago that we need an education. What we don't need is useless shit that we will most likely never need to know.

Seriously people.

Your FREE education sucks [pre-college]?
Go to the library / bookstore / internet and educate yourself then!

The educational system is turning you into a mindless pawn?
Screw the system from the inside via having an education and making a difference. Or just drop out and do nothing with your life.

You don't have to 'follow orders and shut up' IRL, so why in school?
Uh, have you ever had a job? That's what you do at work.

What you learn won't help you in the future?
It'll help you get into college, and thus become a productive citizen in life.

If you all hate the educational system, and are incapable of educating yourself through other sources, drop out and hang out with the homeless guys under the overpasses.

They'll probably agree with you.

The stuff you learn in math is used in almost everything- buildings, nature, etc. I don't claim to know any of the specifics, but I guarantee everything you're learning in math is used for something; important or not to you, math is an incredibly useful tool.
And on Shakespeare, there is a lot more to his writing than just the language, as is true with every piece of literature. This stuff is relevant even today.

Wow...These stories confirm my theroy that I must be in one of the few awsome high schools left in America, all the teachers are cool and genuienly enjoy the subjects they teach and tr to help the students really shine in area they are good at and provide help when they need it.

Our counslers actually give us great advice for the future as well and try to help us get on a career pathway that we would enjoy and be good at.

I know that You will need to use the basics, but I am never going into building buildings. All we needed to learn in math we have already learned. they should be eaching us how to run a home, how to manage money.
I'm not trying to get pissed at you it's just my parents have pretty respectable jobs, (Nurse and DEA) and they never need this stuff.

And that's the problem. People like you don't see the value in learning certain things. Just because something doesn't seem helpful now, it could be very helpful in the future. You'd bu surprised by how much of that "useless" information resurfaces later in your life.

But it doesn't matter, since you complaining about it won't help when you try to learn it. Just learn what your teachers teach you. If it doesn't help you later in your life, no harm done. If it does help you, then that's great.

The truth is, yeah, are free education sucks. We aren't learning the things that will help us out in our jobs, and we are not learning things that will help us in our families. I appreciate it, but my school doesn't have a class that will talk about current events. Thats pretty sad. We are not putting the education to a better use. Hell, I would appreciate the hell out of it if they weren' having us take another year of US history which we ae been in three years. We should learning World history, which only requires one year.

Close, but I dont think posting 'In a third world country" 3 times will cut it. 2nd, Nazi Germany is done, not comming back(hopefully) so I wouldnt be able to use it there. 3rd, Grade school doesnt count cause I was looking for real life scenarios where I could apply my knolledge, not where I learned it.

Close, but I get to keep 1/2 my potential children. For now.
