It was a great game, but not the best. I've had more fun with other games. Although it certainly deserves a mention for pushing the envelope in gaming and being fun as hell.

It. Was. Amazing. Stil is, in fact. Though, in my opinion, Majora's Mask was better. Still, one thing I remember about that game is my mum kicking me out of my room at night so she could play it.
That's. So. Awesome! :D

Only due to personal opinion. I personally think that Majora's Mask was an incredibly better game but, due to its complexities and bizarre and unfamiliar mechanics, understand why many people would find Ocarina to be the more fun game.

I would probably agree that Mario did more for the 3D platformer game than Ocarina, mainly because I wouldn't really call Ocarina a platformer. Both games were that particular series' first foray into the extra dimension, but Mario truly showed what one could do with the 3D world, while Ocarina mainly focused on using it to innovate in their dungeon puzzles and boss fights.

As much as I'm not a fan of the Ratchet and Clank games, I have to admit that the company that makes them is pretty much the only one regularly putting out decent 3D platformers. (Mario Galaxy excluded)

OK, I've pretty much strayed completely away from the point of this topic. Yes, I think Ocarina of Time is overrated. The end.
YES! Somebody agrees with me. Insomniac rules! Although I think that Ratchet & Clank is one of the best series ever, and still is. But that's just me.

Your right, no game is perfect but what the hell is the perfect game anyway? Everything in OoT was amazing, music, sounds, game play, story, characters, dialogue, weapons, atmosphere, challenges, and even graphics. There is always some boob having a go at it for the graphics, yes it was a bit blocky but there was no perfect 3D back then and I still say it isn't now, I didn't even focus on the graphics because I was completely immersed into the game at the time.

Music, what other game beats this game in music? Nothing that's what! Even the sounds are awesome, loved that opening chest sound too.

Game play, you could agrue that the game play in Majora's Mask was better because of all the transforming and what not, in fact any game that you can do that in, Majora's Mask wasn't the first. However the challenges in OoT are brilliant, far more detailed and a lot more interesting than any other Zelda game I have played. Take the forest temple for example, first you had to break into ninja style by hook shotting up to the tree, walk through the twisted hall ways, creepy music with creep enemy's, shoot the pictures to unleash the ghosts, and many other puzzles. This goes for all the temple's and the big so called piece of empty Hyrule, there is a lot of things to do in that place and I couldn't wait to get the horse out.

So yeah, it's not perfect to please everyone because of some people's weird taste but it's perfect for what it is, a game that takes you on an amazing adventure.

I would give it the number one spot, I can't think of anything else that deserves it, I enjoyed other games more like SSBM and Lineage 2 but that's because I really like multiplayer games, the adventure in OoT easily beats those two though.

Also OoT is one the most recommended games, one of the very few 3D games that make it.

To be fair though, if most people grew up playing the games I grew up playing, they would probably think completely different games were "perfect" and the "best". Zelda being so "great" mostly just comes from people being raised on it. Trust me, the games I played when I was eight seemed amazing to me too, as well as many other things of dubious greatness.

Not when your trying to sleep. "Mum, can I go to bed now?" "No.""Please?""Go sleep in my room". God, she pulled a lot of all-nighters.

FLAME SHIELD GO!

I have to agree with you, Ocarina of Time is terribly overrated. I am not saying it is not a good game, on the contrary, I love it, but people act like it is this untouchable masterpiece that is so sacred that if you dis it you are committing an act of heresy. Its also kind of ironic because if you make a comment saying say "Halo revolutionized FPSs" or something like that, they will flame you so fucking hard its unbelievable.

It bored the crap out of me, but the Zelda formula does. It's the same formula that killed Darksiders for me, too.

I played it last year, and even with the crappy graphics and now mediocre gameplay I thought it was great. It was the only game by Nintendo that I liked, so I don't think it's overrated.

OoT is one of those games you look back at when you get sick of Generic Shooter #4038 or the like, and think "Why can't there be another game like that?" I'd daresay that the impact it had on those who played it when OoT was the "latest and greatest" will be lost on most younger gamers, but anyone from the N64 generation or earlier understands what it did for atmosphere, storytelling, pacing and variety in games of its kind (remember, it's pre-Half-Life) and in certain areas, gaming as a whole; it set the new benchmark. Basically for it's time, it did everything right, and better than its competitors by an order of magnitude.

Plus, you got easily 20+ hours of minimal-grind game time (depending on how much of a Zelda-completionist you are, and whether or not you were using a playguide) out of less than 64MiB.

Ocarina of Time is not overrated. In fact it's perfect. In fact, IMO, every Legend of Zelda game is perfect (with the exception of Zelda II...which was three quarters perfect and one quarter fail)

Anything that is called the greatest of all time is probably over-rated. It might be safe to say that Majora's Mask is under-rated (it's really, really good. And probably as good as Ocarina).

No. NO. It is amazing. Near perfect.

It definitley has to be judged based on what it was like when it first came out though, i can understand how someone wouldnt like it if they played it for the first time today.

Also, i totally agree. I reckon Majora's Mask was at least as good as OoT.
