I Ocarina of TIme overrated? Not too much. Sure, it has been getting a bit too much love and attention lately but that still doesn't mean it's a bad game.

In comparison to today's games, yes, it might be hard to compare it to others... at least to the nex gen fan boys. But you must keep in mind, it was revolutionary for its time.

Now, OP, I also agree with your friend here. He's right that Super Mario 64 was revolutionary in 3D design and gameplay. But that doesn't mean you're right, too, OP. OoT was also revolutionary in graphics but also gameplay.

So, no, not very much. OoT isn't too overrated.

Finally played it myself a few weeks ago.

It's the same as every other 3D Zelda game that came after it, only they IMPROVED upon the formula for follow up games.

I still like Wind Waker the best, thus meaning that fanboys consider my opinions shit, because Wind Waker is often seen as a weak Link in the series.
I too, enjoy Wind Waker the most, even with all that damn rupee grinding.

I just found it so good looking, that sailing didn't even get boring as I looked at the pretty water.

It did have some very tedious sections, along with some rather unfair difficulty spikes (Jabu Jabu's belly... ugh)

The lock on system was a great innovation but it is broken and you have to be aiming right at an enemy within a certain distance for it to work.

This would be fine if you could control the camera but it gets itself into the most awkward angles possible during many fights and you end up stuck in a corner frantically trying to turn and lock onto an enemy that is behind you jumping on your little green head.

The camera is also a nightmare in small corridoors or in closed in puzzle areas, and would it have been too much to ask to have an option to NOT invert the first person look?

The clues of where to go next can get that little bit too cryptic... I refuse to use a walkthrough but wandering around with no idea what to do for 20 mins before accidentally clicking A in front of a gravestone isn't fun.

i mean really not all of them were gold but zelda never seemed to go down the shit hole with mario and sonic. i have never played a bad zelda game they all seem to be good for some reason. the game play does get old for the 2d versions but it never gets to be down right awfull.....

Well, it was a good game, I liked Majora's Mask better personally. A perfect score though... no, that is too much.

It really isn't.

Sure, if you were to play it now with no prior experience then its faults would be amplified, but back in the day it was essentially untouchable, and those who got used to it at a time when any problems it had were inherent with contemporary game design still 'get the hype' today.

The first Zelda game I ever played was actually Twilight princesse, after some adjustments where made for it's particular kind of gameplay I had a lot of fun with it. I ended up buying Orcarina of time on Wii Ware becuase at the time it seemed there was nothing better to spend the gift card on, and found it to be equally enjoyable. Considering this game is over a decade old (Japananese release was in 1998 according to wiki)and still is able to hold a new comers attention in the face of it's next gen counterpart I'd say it deserves Most of the praise it receives.

I do love Ocarina, but it's not in my Top 10 favorites. Heck, I don't even consider it to be the best Zelda game ever, it's more like my fourth favorite in the series. My own list goes:

1. Wind Waker
2. Majora's Mask (I really love the three-day cycle, and the plot itself is surprisingly dark)
3. Twilight Princess
4. Ocarina of Time

Keep in mind of course that this is just my own personal list. I also wouldn't give any of these games a perfect 10 out of 10, they all have flaws. The only game I've played that I just can't think of anything to complain about is Chrono Trigger.

Edge has a great article on the game when it came first in their most recent 100 best games.

It explains a lot of the critical praise it gets. Not simply for being Zelda in 3D, but for being an expertly crafted, thematically coherent, and downright wonderful experience.

There is an excerpt here. [http://www.edge-online.com/features/the-100-best-games-to-play-today?page=0,10]

The full article is well worth reading if you can find it.

Every highly regarded game ever is always called overrated by at least some people. In the case of Ocarina of Time, I do not belong to those people, because I find that game fantastic and have replayed it many, many times.

It's a good game. But nothing beats A Link To The Past in my view.
Agreed. I'd say the closest we got to that was the Minish Cap. I'm not against full 3D LoZ games, I just don't think they've been as good. Overrated, yes. Fun, yes.

Umm... You don't happen to live under a rock do you? :)

And my answer is no.
