Looks like I fell into the largest category with all the other literary fags. I like to write poetry, and cannot draw for shit.

I think an artist is someone who can effectively convey themselves (or their message) through a medium, be it poetry, prose, oration or painting. Games can come under that one too.

Otherwise it's not really art to me, just more of a picture (although a picture intended to convey a depth of character comes under art).

Anyway, I can't draw but I'd like to learn. Something for the summer holidays maybe.

I wish i could draw, but unfortunately i'm artistically retarded. In the words of my chemistry teacher, "you are the second worst drawer i have ever seen", and that was my CHEMISTRY teacher.
But i put that down to my lack of concentration and that i cant draw shapes.

EDIT: Speaking of which, I have a question:
Do real artists draw with the whole "Ball n' line skeleton" trick? Because some douchebag saw me drawing like that, and he made the comment "Wow, you actually draw like that? That's the shitty way of making art!".
Yes, I´ve seen them do it. It´s just a matter of style.

I can take some really artistic photos, but that's about it. Rudimentary drawing skills at best, though if CAD/NX count, then...yeah, I guess I could be an artist. I've had a few compliments on designs and such before.

Well its all a matter of opinion. By my opinion, and everyone else's, I suck at drawing.

I don't make a living off any of it, but I generally try my hand at all of the above, though game development more or less eludes me as I've absolutely no programming skills whatsoever.

I am not an artist.

That said, I can do a lot of things that are related to art. For example, I can play the Guitar and the Violin, but I wouldn't call myself a musician. Simply being able to read music and replicate the notes with the proper motions is simply a technical skill that anybody can learn with a bit of effort. The reason I am not a musician is because I have almost no capacity to create a melody that anybody would consider "good"

I can draw and paint with a limited degree of technical skill, but again this doens't make me an artist. I can draw a machine, I can replicate a scene, but I cannot reproduce something from my own head. This may simply be due to a lack of technical skill, but I'm not really sure.

The only place where I express any artistic inclination is in writing, but even here I would hardly call myself an artist. I can report facts, I can forge an argument but I have yet to produce a story that exists only in my mind. It's something that I feel I could probably due, but until I actually do so I can never provide proof of a skill. Plus, I've often been entirely wrong about my capacity to do something. For example, when I first decided to take up fencing I was fairly convinced that I could easily do that pretty well. Then I was shown just how terribly wrong I was, and I was shockingly amusing.

I tend to write well and I'm a decent visual artist. I also have aspirations in filmography, and I'm in the learning stages of game development.

Jeez its like I'm writing a resume...

Meh. I draw comics, write and dabble in photography on occasion. If I were to follow a career in art, I'd probably be a cartoonist.

Yeah yeah, some people don't consider cartoons/anime/what-have-you art, but art is whatever the artist makes of it. It's a creative outlet for relaxing in my case.

I can replicate 2-d images and cartoons just by looking at them so I guess you can call me a copy-cat artist.

Being an artist means being someone who makes art. What is art is a more complex question.
I write sometimes, I also have tried my hand at level designing and making mods.
