Not really the opposite sex, but I prefer female characters in games. Not because it is my gender, but because it feels much more impressive when it is a woman, considering how you will rarely see a female hero in most movies, literature and books these days.

I don't like playing as females, it makes me feel creepy. Like some pervy old man who plays as females just so he can take off all their clothes and watch the jiggle physics and I don't like those guys, they're creepy.
When I was in high school, I had a few friends that did things like that on Baldur's gate. imagine two very incompatible races (elf and dwarf) running around in a tavern in their underwear....

I don't find it very weird to play as the opposite gender. I don't typically play as a female, but I will every once in a while (More probable if there's classes, skills, abilities, etc. that are female exclusive)

I think its really creepy... watch the movie Gamer. That morbidly obese person is probably an accurate approximation of the average blood elf female. Though when it comes down to the "Which ass would you rather stare at, A. I'm asexual so it means fuck all to me. B. I play a male undead rogue... so they are kind of lacking in the gluteous minimus/maximus area if you catch my drift.

I find playing a female character to be just as fun as a male one. And no, it has nothing to do with wanting to stare at the ass of my character. I'm pansexual, so looking at a male ass would be just as fun for me. Besides, in games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion, I spend most of my time in first person view, so I can't see the ass.

Doesn't bother me at all, and I don't see why it would bother anyone else either.
It's just a character.

As a female, I actually prefer playing as a male. But I don't really care about gender that much, though I do feel better if my character is male. Especially in MMOs where I get out of way too much attempts of chauvinist jokes and potential harassment if I play as a male. I guess I feel safer? On the other hand, I still do like some kick-ass female characters (I have an uncanny and unnatural bond with Lara Croft).

No, but I'm not 100% okay with it.
I don't want my mom walking in to see me looking at some girls perfectly formed ass.

That's just awkward.
I am sort of like that but not my Mum more my friends :)

it's not like it matters. games usually put no character on your character if they let you choose the gender. or they do the exact same character traits. so the only difference is whether you want to hear a female voice grunting in pain or a male voice. i prefer the male voice in this case as the female voice gets a little more irritating a little faster.

I think you have bigger issues in your life if your mother/son situations get awkward from looking at a girl in a less-than-platonic mannerism, mate. As unfortunate as the reaction is, at least you aren't ogling a male ass as a male where things might get really awkward at first.

If given the choice, I will always without question pick the female.

I enjoy role-playing in a role foreign to me.

I always go for the female character (im male myself. I might eventually go back and play a male character for completion purposes but otherwise I think its more interesting, I tend to find myself roleplaying more for some reason rather than thinking what would be best to complete the game.

Well I usually go male when I'm playing a game that gives me a choice... hell it's just the natural thing to identify myself better with my own gender. But I don't have any problem playing a girl in a game either, Metroid kicks ass, Mirrors Edge kicks ass, FF6 kicks ass... point is the sex of the lead character really doesn't matter as long as the game kicks ass =D

No I don't think it's weird. I play a female medic in Global Agenda.

@stukov961: I don't think I want to know why/how you found this.
