Poll: Pleasure in sex ed

This thread is infinitely better after pressing the Big Red Button and reading this whole thread in Justin Beiber's voice.

Anyway, I don't see a reason to include "how to give a proper blow" or "how to let your fingers do the talkin'" lessons in Sex Ed. It's about knowing the dangers associated with it and learning how to prevent them, not getting your partner off. Maybe in a separate class, I guess, but in specifically Sex Education, I don't think so.

Well, we're still pretty lax about sex.

It's just that when I'm asked to imagine a Danish stereotype, it pretty much only conjures up an image of a slightly corpulent nudist with red sausage and smørrebrød... Perhaps smoking a joint.

I don't know why I think you're all nudists...

I don't know about rugbrød, but pålegg/pålæg is as a term pretty much untranslateble. Other countries just don't really have the whole bread culture. You never see people in movies eating just a straight slice of bread with a few slices of cheese...

When you're saying 'rugbrød' now, are you referring to that dark brown, compact things normally cut in thin slices, or just regular bread made from rye?

True about the pålæg. And true about the lacking of bread culture. It's so sad really. One of our national food traditions for Christmas and Easter is "the big cold table" (Makes sense in danish, - Det store kolde bord) with rugbrød with all sorts of different toppings/pålæg.

Hmm, after reading some of the posts I can see where the fears would arise over what has been taught, but you need to bear in mind a time when even more conservative attitudes banned sex education in schools outright, deeming it a social aspect of life and inappropriate in the classroom. Rumours and misinformation were rife and sex was considered to be stressful for both men and women in the early years of marriage due to a complete lack of basic knowledge.

If the pleasurable side of sex purely focussed on the mechanics then it would be:-
a) wrong, as neither men nor women derive all of their pleasure purely from the mechanics
b) very misleading, as it ignores the mind and emotion, two key components for either sex when it comes to achieving better sex
c) ignores communication, an essential part of sex

However, if the lesson plans were structured to encourage communication in a way that would not intimidate your partner then wouldn't that be a good thing? Wouldn't at least a basic understanding of the biological pleasure centres be better than neither sex having any knowledge other than that gained from the internet or friends (both equally reliable in providing misleading information)? I think part of the problem is that crap magazines always harp on about the perfect orgasm by following these basic steps, where such a thing does not exist. Pleasure and making love (versus just sex) are very personal and cannot be homogenised in that way, so as long as the lesson took cognisance of that, then wouldn't we be teaching a generation of kids how to communicate with their partners better and provide better, more intimate, more pleasureable relationships?

I think it would be best if maybe some pamphlets were available, or maybe some website links were provided and students could decide for themselves.

No, that's a terrible idea.

Sex Ed is the most awkward time in a health class. Having the 50 year old spiteful teacher pass out condoms and talk about how the penis works is awkward enough.

In all seriousness, Sex Ed is there to teach people about the dangers of sex, how the reproductive system works, and how to be safe while having sex.

In order to learn how to do it right, there are other people you can ask, plus just doing it is good practice in itself.

It's funny, a lot of people, even Danes say they don't like rugbrød. But usually it's because they haven't tasted proper rugbrød. LOT of them are hard, sour and makes your eyes dry out because it's so dry, but proper rugbrød is made of pure win. And if you top it of with some leverpostej (danish type of liver pate) it's food from heavens. I eat it everyday.

I think it'd depend whether we're talking "Good Oral Sex Technique 101" or "This is a clitoris, here is where it usually is, touching it in some way during sex is likely to elicit pleasure from the person possessing it."

Granted, I'm not sure that turning guides to pleasure in sex into something acceptable in a Sex Ed. class would actually serve any real purpose.

In theory sure. The problem is with all the drama around sex-ed vs religion, outright teaching people that sex can be for pleasure would just make things worse.

OT: I don't think so, but it wouldn't be a terrible idea to give a quick once-over of some stuff. It'll all get figured out through personal experience anyway, so there isn't a whole lot that's needed to be taught.
