I got to fire the Steyr and Bren as part of the Irish reserves. Yes, we still use the Bren, and what of it?

Sarge, I got a question for you: when do you think is a good age for a kid to start learning how to fire a real bow and arrow?

You see, my cousin is on some "outdoors man" kick and he wants to get his ten year old son involved. I have my reservations and I have gotten multiple opinions on it. I was wondering what your advice would be.
I fired my first one aged 11, and I loved it

Yes I fired 5 live rounds from a GP rifle after completing a 4 mile run (I was in cadets when I was younger). And I'm not too bad a shot either :)

I live in the UK since you asked

I live in norway.

I shoot frequently with my rifles.
I own 3x Shotguns. 1 semi auto (Remington), 2x double barreled (really old ones, no markings of whos made them)
5x bolt actions, 1x Mauser 98k, 2x Sauer 200STR and 2x Krag Jorgensen Rifles.

Aaand since im in the home guard I also have an AG3, Assult rifle (best weapon ever, <3 my battle cannon)

Im an active competition shooter. Actually got an gold medal from a national championship back in 2005.. And also I spend 2 weeks every fall hunting =) (mostly birds) But also Bunnies.

(Im not going to bother with the collection of .22 cal rifles)

And yeh.. I got a gunfetish >_>
I hate the new gun laws... Im not allowed to buy any more rifles. unless I discard one of my current ones. *rage* 8@

Also tried out a number of other diffrent guns in the home guard, and when i did national service and in the rifleclub.. Such as the M82 Barret, the VS Mauser, and my personal favorite the MG3 <3. Also tried 2 shots with the Carl Gustav recoilless cannon. Also tried some shots with the HK 416 and 417 + the MP7. In the club I have tried the Thompson, the MP40 and the M1 US Carabine(useless thing, cant hit a barn even if you are standing inside it with it)

--Edit--
Also fiered 2 shots with my ooold 10,4 mm Jarmann. Used by my grandfather as an rifle to finish off Whales. (the "modern" mauser 98k was never as good as the 10.4mm)
Pity I have only 6 rounds left for the old cannond xD
It makes the M82 Barret seem like a air rifle when it comes to recoil.

I'm an American living close enough to DC to recognize some places in the Capital Wasteland. Apparently I own a 22. cal-Rifle but haven't seen or used it in several years. I've shot some cans and blasted the crap out of a cabbage patch kid last time I used the thing. I've also used a Crossbow and several flavors of BB-gun.

Yes I have, quite a few.
.22, .357, .357 Mag, .38, .380, .45, .44 Mag, .50 BMG.
And some shotguns.
I currently own none, but when I move out I will be given a .357 Magnum revolver.
Also, I'm in America. Big surprise, right?

I used to love archery, and bow season for whitetails is a perfect time of year to be out in the woods, but unfortunately some injuries have left me unable to use a bow properly, so I gave my Mathews to my brother. I kept my longbow, just for sentimental purposes, it hangs in my living room. :)

I started when I was seven or eight, on kids bows. Ten is a very reasonable age, but care must be taken to emphasize safety above all. My uncle taught me most of what I know, and he was extremely strict. Point a weapon in the wrong direction and get a backhand. Say what you like about methods, I learned. Emphasize safety, and the younger the better, IMO. What kids learn young sticks with them. Teach good habits, and they'll keep them forever.

Hey man, discipline is always good thing in my book (I came from a house of tough love, too).

Okay then, thank you for your insight!

I've fired a 9mm once, and a rifle with very small bullets (still had gunpowder and would kill someone if used rightly) in a shooting range. I liked it, the smell and how the weapon aimed, not me. At least that was how i felt it. My parents don't own guns and neither do i.

There wasn't even a opinion in the poll for my case, that is : have fired, but neither my parents or me own one). But hey, i understand you can't have ALL the opinions in there.

Anyways, i live in Estonia (haah!) and went to the shooting range with my class. I actually won a cup ( that is ,a drinking glass, not an award thingy) since i shot decently.

Even trough i know how dangerous they are, i kinda want to try to fire more. I don't care about the loud noise, actually i dislike it, but i like the accuracy, if that sentence makes any sense. So basically, i want to use them for sport, since i seem to have a bit luck shooting those.

I didn't know which one to choose on the poll, because they were at some kind of range.

-M4A1 Carbine
-AK-47
-Beretta 92F
-H&K USP .40
-H&K Mark 23
-M249 SAW
-M240B

EDIT: I live in America

I'm British, real guns that fire live ammo are rather hard to come by for a member of the general public

I fired a shotgun once, on a vacation in France. Beautiful weapon, many a clay pigeon now lies dead because of her. It was the property of the guy who ran the resort, so I don't really see a relevant option in the poll. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, mostly because I won the competition ^_^

EDIT: I live in Denmark, but I doubt I'll get my hands on a gun with ease here.

I used to fire the British Army's SA80 whilst serving... Got to play with a morter on occasion too.

I've fired shot guns too at clay pigeons.

Never fired a pistol, although I'd like to...
