I'm in the pub club but here was me thinking the Escapist was the last bastion of no half naked women plastered all over the gaming site. It makes me a little bit sad.

Wow.

Six pages.

Obligatory Pub-Club is Awesome and doesn't get ads post activation!

Seriously though, it's hardly worth getting this upset about. Yeah, it's stupid - Yeah, it's funny. No, it isn't ruining your life. The porn isn't jumping out the screen and throttling you to death, nor is it making you click on it. Hell, the picture on it isn't even as bad as Evony ads.

You know, this one?

[spoiler/]
[/spoiler]

And that's for an actual game, not porn. Which is just teasing, in my opinion.

Edit: Also! Where is the 'I don't care' option for the poll? >:O

Man, they just stopped trying to put up any pretense at all of the ads being connected to the game, didn't they? Of course it gave us the great "She's actually in our game, my lord" ad campaign for some other game that, unfortunately, I can't remember the name of; which I guess goes to show you how effective Evony's campaign was. And for the record, I only know the truth about Evony (it's a crappy browser based strategy game with nary a female character in sight) because of a bunch of articles made fun of just how misleading the ads were a few years back.

Captcha: big nose

I guess Evony's marketing campaign is run by Pinocchio?

Porn ads are absolutely retarded. Especially when you have porn ads on a site, as well as videos that require an age verification... WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?

Now I can see where people would have a problem with porn adds on this site, and for the most part I agree with their reasoning. The Escapist sets a certain bar content and debate and I don't want to see it turn into 4-chan.

THAT SAID

To be entirely forthcoming, as an adult male, pornography is FAR more relevant to my interests then feminine hygiene products and hair care solutions. Sorry if that sounds crass, but its the truth.

In addition I would be particularly ok with advertising for AO games. Though that's namely because I think the current ESRB system is broken to the lack of games rated AO. I mean seriously, Grand Theft Auto, a game with... well everything that youd find in a grand theft auto game, is rated the same as Halo, a game about shooting light-brite space guns at light-brite aliens.

OK, now I've read the post, and it's honestly one of the msot disgusting moral panics I've ever seen. I like TVtropes usually, but dear god why have they let those idiots into their moderation?
Well he is the guy in charge of the site. Basically it's a gathering of like minds to bring together all of the tropes and cliches of modern fiction

UNTIL!

Something comes up that Fast Eddie doesn't like. Then it becomes his personal blog.

I initially raged NO! since this site is used by a lot of kids and pre-teens and such. Then I realised one of the ads has Faye Regan... so um... yeah... I'm ok with this.
Enjoy your genital warts.

(Seriously, google it. Or dont.)
You sick bastard... Oh god. The horror. The horror

I take this move as a sign of desperation; doubly so since The Escapist mods are quite obviously aware of the topic, and aren't willing to comment.

No, I am not a prude. I've been exposed to some truly horrific shit on the web.
That much doesn't bother me. This is the most tame porn ads I've ever seen, to be honest.

I'm worried about what direction the site is taking; nearly every change to the core site over the last year and a half has been for the worse. But now I can add hypocrisy to the list too apparently.

The Escapist is one of the biggest gaming sites out there; you mean to tell me they aren't attracting advertisers to the point they had to deal in porn?

What the hell is going on?

I don't want to see porn ads, this site is not the correct venue for these ads. Seriously, the Escapist is be classier than this, they are demeaning themselves. And they are making it so I am uncomfortable showing other people this site.

Porn on the escapist......doesnt bother me at all. A woman in a bra is not porn, I've seen worse on the beach. But I guess as long as its not two nude women gyrating around each other with a 9 inch dildo joystick, then thats ok with me.

Then again, I would of thought an advert for Valve would constitute as porn to some people on here, but there we go.

I don't really mind. I barely even notice ads any more, they just blend into the background.

Still, my own nonchalance aside, this does seem odd for a place where linking to porn is against the rules... I'm going to go with "no" on this one.

Don't see what the
Big deal is.
Look, it could be worse.
Or better, either works.
Cocks an' tits shouldn't be discriminated against!
Kick in the balls to some, but chill out.
Everythings going to be fine. :)
Read a book or somethin'.

personally I don't think that its a big deal as long as they are consistent and safe. As long as the ads don't trigger popups, malware, and viruses I'm okie with them.

I don't think that sex should be this taboo subject. It is a huge part of our lives and culture, without it non of us would be around!

Lets stop shaming people into thinking they are horrible for wanting sex and just be okie with it.

That does seem rather strange for a website that has caters to minors. Yeah yeah, PS3 streaming service whatever, but it's a PS3 streaming service for porn so little difference.
I must have missed it. Where do they claim to cater to minors specifically?

In any event, the girl in the ad has more clothing than those same kids would see in many video games, even ones only rated T.
It doesn't, but the Escapist doesn't specifically cater to adults either. Perhaps I should've said caters to teens and adults.

For you to think only "creepy neckbeards" find woman and sex attractive probably means you are being quite prudish as you suggested. It also suggests your thought process is driven by sterotypes.
I find women attractive most of the time depending on how they are present themselves/are presented, for example I do not find slutty poses attractive at all, quite the contrary. Likewise I do not find sex attractive to look at esp. how it's portrayed in most pornography. XÞ
You are welcome to that opinion, but it doesn't mean people who feel differently are "creepy neckbeards"
When did I say it was? Those were the other guys word's, not mine. Although I can't say I think too highly of people who think of sex as a spectator sport. ...or a sport period for that matter.

Giant difference between straight porn ads and the streaming site they have shown. If it was some girl getting double fisted than I would consider something a bit bad by this.

Otherwise stop being prudish, the porn industry is a huge deal, they decide a lot in the world. Every single battle of storage devices, CD vs Light disk, VHS vs. one I don't want to look up again, Blue Ray vs HD DVD. All the winners were the one the porn companies chose.

Just don't freak out over something so meaningless, also Adblock!
Beta-Max lol
